I used the Lucas Stop Slip for traditional automatic transmissions to get 2 or 3 years extra out of a failing auto box and the stuff was miraculous, just added it to some fresh ATF and put new in each year till the auto box finally died. Would definitely try some of their engine oil additives if my engine was tired and needed to limp it along till I was able to replace it.

My father-in-law started using Motomaster Oil (made by Shell, Canadian Tire in-store brand) in his work trucks cause it's slightly cheaper than the other name brands. Seen no impact as far after 3 oil changes on each, so yeah just change your oil on time & everything will be just fine IMO.

My parents swear That marvels mystery oil gives them more mpg. I know for a fact that Lucas fuel injector cleaner works because I bought a fixer upper that had trouble starting because it had sat up for 10 years. Put some of that stuff in there and it cranks with no problems now. But yeah your right some of that stuff is nonsense.

Using additives could upset the viscosity this could delay on start ups on cold days oil from reaching the top end tappets cam bearings etc, not worth the risk, just change your oil at half the time they say, the gain over time prove to pay off, most of our company vans cars are 200k going strong 👍ps if your a rag the arse off clown with your pride and joy particularly from cold oil changes must be at 3 k if you don’t do this your pride and joy will sound like a bag of loose spanners before 70kor less

With a bit of research you will quickly find out that EVERY OIL companies put all kinds of additives, detergents, etc in their oil and they even put ads on TV to tell you THEIR ADDITIVES are better than their competitors additives. So, folks, stop the 'know best' attitudes. I've tried a lot of them over the years and many DID help with my cars/trucks run better.

No it doesn't. Fuel contains all the same detergents as a bottle. It's a mandated EPA requirement that fuel must have additives to keep fuel system clean. No additives is going to improve mileage.

@bluedogsalvage5246
@bluedogsalvage5246 Год назад
@Grace LI point of the moment and driving habits. Unless you duplicate your driving to exactness of load, weather, atmospheric conditions, traffic, road surface, throttle/idling habits, etc. You have no idea if it was additives that increased your mileage. A additive would not instantly increase mileage in one tank. One of the most reputable sources of automotive testing, consumer Reports, tested additives about 20 years ago, the results showed no cleaning of engine and no mileage increases across several different styles and models of vehicles. Fact is, these additive snakeoil potions at best contain exactly the same chemicals that are already required in fuel by EPA. At worst additives might not be safe/compatible with very expensive emissions control devices/sensors. But if you want to kid yourself, knock yourself out. You're the one wasting your money.

@81Todd
@81Todd 6 месяцев назад
Wow that's true if you understand how an engine works and you understand exactly what you're buying you wouldn't be buying the heavy duty oil additives they do make ones that the viscosity is written on the bottle and you can match that of your oil
@81Todd
@81Todd 7 месяцев назад
This is the exact reason why you use the right additive you don't use Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer you can use the Lucas pure synthetic instead and there's one above that that's even lighter as far as viscosity they're not thick at all in fact some are even thinner than the motor oil you're putting in.
@littled6698
@littled6698 8 месяцев назад
Lucas doesn't have any oil additive in it It just thickens oil. That CAN help, but it just cuts the oil additive that your engine oil is bringing to the game.

@officialWWM
@officialWWM Год назад
@@382527100 that’s not even close to correct. Manufacturers have no interest in A, recommending other companies products , or B, making their cars last longer. There is absolutely nothing to be gained by them in either scenario!
@midnightrider1854
@midnightrider1854 Год назад
@@officialWWM Other than... If the manufacturers did a joint venture with an additive company that actually did work and actually extended the engine, trans, or injector life without ANY kind of noticeable repercussions then it would make them alot of money in the long run as well as outsell their competition hands down! But the additives do not prove to the big manufacturers that they make a noticeable improvement without hampering longevity. Even if there were no long term issues the benefits would have to be proven scientific ally to outweigh the long term cost of purchases.Just my opinion. If they work for you I think that's fantastic and I am not judging you for using the products. But Over my 30yrs as a professional mechanic and using the products that were introduced to me to "sample" I have personally only been able to record, if any, little changes over time and that was usually the fuel injector service cleaners because they run almost like a solvent through the injectors to wash out the carbon. (Sometimes)

fuel additives are more important, oil already has a lot of additives already, fuel however seems to have way less quality control so i always treat the fuel
@bluedogsalvage5246
@bluedogsalvage5246 Год назад
Fuel has all the additives as a magic bottle does, and it's in the correct ratios to actually work. It's EPA mandated so vehicles remain emissions compliant. Magic bottle is a waste of money, but people with no scientific ability to test it will convince themselves it did something special.

@midnightrider1854
@midnightrider1854 Год назад
Personally, and it's just my personal opinion, but the manufacturers do not recommend the oil additives for a reason. Alot of the engines produced now are variable valve timing engines. And the phaser passages and vvt solenoid screens and inlet passages are designed for a specific weight of engine oil. When you mix in the additive you change the viscosity and it does not flow freely through those passages and starves the phasers ultimately. As well as the additives, being fuel or engine oil, either one ultimately effects the condition of the oil and puts chemicals in it which loosens the carbon and traps it in the vvt solenoid screens again, starving the phasers costing the owner a lot of money in repairs. 🤔 t doesn't effect the older engines in the same manner but the newer ones...
@bluedogsalvage5246
@bluedogsalvage5246 Год назад
Change oil as specified by vehicle manufacturer, use the grade and viscosity specified. I'd you do this, there is no need for additives. Some people are really sold on additives by a chincy plastic gear toy. Same people who use octane boost in a bottle and spark plugs promising big hp gains. Engineers who designed your vehicle know more about what is required to get the best performance, efficiency, and longevity from it than some company marketing a snake oil potion that came out in the 50s, and obviously hasn't changed since then. With rare exceptions, no vehicle today uses oil viscosity heavier than winterized 30 weight. Thicker isn't better for the last 40 years!

@bluedogsalvage5246
@bluedogsalvage5246 Год назад
@aarongene9507 additives won't prolong the life of a worn out engine. People like you would spend 5 grand on additives, and pay thousands more money in wasted fuel, and even more money for oil/coolant leaking or burning off. If you looked at how much money is wasted by pushing a wasted engine to the day it finally fails, you could have bought a new engine and saved money on gas and oil not being wasted! I know someone who just did this over a leaking steering box. Just dumping thousands into seal sweller and oil. He ended up destroying both the gear box and power steering pump on his Freightliner. It would not have cost more that $300 to replace a seal, yet he dumped up to 2 quarts of oil a day in it, then Lucas power steering sealer periodically. Not to mention the mess on the truck and everywhere he parked. It ended up being a $2000 repair, + all the other money wasted! People just spend money like this and never think. And its because they are just plain stupid!
@littled6698
@littled6698 8 месяцев назад
2qts a day in it? LOL. That's not what these stop leak things are for. 😂😂 Just because someone is stupid, doesn't mean the product is bad.
