this might be an odd observation, but i love your voice. it's very calm, yet expressive.

My inner arm and top chest tattoos probably hurt the most. I'm going to get my hands next. The thing about tattoos though, is that every part of the body has different pain levels. It also depends on if your artist has a "heavy hand". I usually don't feel much pain for at least an hour and a half. After that, it starts hurting. The worst is when it's over and they wipe off to clean the tattoo. It feels like someone wiping acid on you. It burns pretty bad. After all that though, it's a temporary pain for a piece of art that lasts a lifetime.

Honestly the worst part about getting a big tattoo is trying to sleep the next few days

I got my first tattoo today, and to be honest, it wasn't as bad as a cat scratching a sunburn but more like taking a pen and drawing on yourself in the same spot for a while. It's closest to that kind of burning... at least for me.

Since i have dark skin my tattoo artist had to shade in my tattoo twice. The second time he did it he used a hot thick pin and that really hurt but it made the tattoo stand out since the colours ran so deep.

Interesting sort of pain. Stinging, burning but the odd thing about it is that the pain stops as soon as the machine stops. So for me it was short waves of pain. I was lucky I think because I never have suffered from the intense itching others do. After a couple days, it peels and I'm done. Fast healer I guess.....lol

It actually hurts a lot more after it has been done, especially on the second day, your skin feels like it's going to explode. But after about 3-4 days it starts to feel normal.

It's refreshing to see someone not bullshit when it starts to hurt. It's okay to admit if it hurt like, whats your problem. Btw I'm not saying all tattoos hurt, different people have different pain tolerances, I just hate people lying to look cool. Also it's informative af as to when you should start expecting to be in more pain (such as after finishing the actual tattoo). Thanks man, appreciate it.

I have 8 tattoos inc the ribs but the worst was the shoulder blade which I describe as a hot knife and easiest was the thigh which I barely felt .. Tattoos hurt but talking and breathing through it helps

I can relate to those saying that it's worse afterwards. I definitely agree with it. The tattoo I had wasn't bad to begin with, it was more the shading towards the end where you begin to grimace a little.

I am getting my first tattoo today in Celebration of the Life of my Daughter Cashmere-Saughnassie. I had to watch this to see if I would chicken out. Well really I don't have a choice cause my Daughter went through some serious pain through her cancer treatment so who am I to cry about a little bit of pain to honor her. She is totally worth it.

I got my first tat on March 30, 2012. I was really nervous because I'm a frickin wuss lol. I do not take pain very well. Best way I can explain how it felt was the feeling of a needle pricking the skin really fast. I wish I could post a pic of it here. It's about 3 inches wide and almost 4 inches long on the inside of my forearm. My inspiration for the tat was my brother who passed away on March 5 the same year so it was in memory of him. I cried. I cried A LOT but I think it was just watching the tat come together and seeing it almost come to life as all the colors filled it. Cried like a baby. Maybe it just didn't hurt near as much as I thought it would. I think the thoughts of my brother and memories running thru my mind as I watched the tat come to completion kind of masked the pain of the needle. So that's my experience. I do plan on getting 2-3 more eventually. Got a feeling they're gonna hurt a lot more haha. RIP Tony, I love you so so much, always my instant sunshine. ❤️

The best way I can explain how a tattoo feels is if someone heated up a sharp piece of metal till it was hot and slowly slid it across your arm (or wherever the tattoo may be) colorbones are a bitch though fr!!

I've never had a problem with my artist whipping my ink down, it actually felt good. After my tattoos were finished there was some soreness but once I was home, took the wrappings off and washed it there wasn't any pain. During the healing process i never experienced any burning, just itching. All in all his experience was pretty close to mine, had the same place done on my left arm/shoulder. Even had a small town artist do all of mine.

I've wanted a tattoo for years but have always been too scared of what the pain will be like. It's hard because as they say, we all have different pain tolerance and in different areas but I guess we won't know what that will be like until we're in the situation haha! It's just taking that leap and thinking of the end result 🤔

Id explain the pain as having a sunburn and scratching that sunburn with a texas grill brush

I agree with the giving the artist an idea and letting them do their thing. The guy that does mine has turned into a really good friend of mine. I just tell him something I am thinking about and then he just runs with it.

I have 4 tattoos but the one on my calf, Dear lord hurt like hell. It's Old English lettering but what it says is personal. It's 10 letters and lol, after the 1st letter I told my friend to STOP I'd just live with that one letter the rest of my life lmao. Before anyone says anything.... my friend does tattoos professionally so it was all done sanitary. My others are, 1 on my right forearm of two roses which was a coverup of something very traumatic. The other two are on my hands and they're names. Which I can now say, "ladies never put a mans name anywhere on your body!"

I've been mainly holding off on getting a tattoo because of this reason. I know everybody has a different tolerance for pain, but pretty sure mine is close to none. Here's to hopefully getting one before the end of this year.

I feel that someone should mention how warm your skin is after the tattoo is done & the swelling that often occurs over areas that have been worked hard. Regardless of the pain (however much it may be) it isn't enough to stop those of us who genuinely love tattoos from going back for more & it probably never will. We're a different breed.

I think pain is very relative. I'm a woman and I just got my first tattoo and it is as big (in comparison to my arm) and in the same spot as your left arm tattoo. It literally felt like a vibrator on my arm, barely felt more than pinch the entire time. To be fair, I suffer from Fibromyalgia as of last year and my daily constant pain level sits at a 4 on international pain scale and I go to the hospital at a 7. PS let me know if you want me to email a picture of my new artistic medical tattoo I just got.

I'm very lucky because tattoos seriously tickle to me! when I had the inside of my wrist done I laughed so hard I had to have my arm held down because it tickled like tickle torcher as a kid! the rest of my tattoos felt good! I feel bad for people that find them painful! my sister cried like a toddler!

I won't lie, tattoos definitely come with pain but it's nothing too bad. You will quickly get used to it and in a way, won't feel it anymore. They're definitely worth it and you'll be glad you sat through it

To me shading feels like mostly vibrating with a little bit of a sting. Liners are more of a scraping burning sensation. And everything around the elbow and wrist feels like a more intense sharp pain and It feels like I can feel the machine knocing against my bones.

Cool video. I recently had an inner forearm tattoo as a memorial for my mom. It is a fairly large piece and quite detailed. It was ok at first with some burn but after 6 hours and when he was doing the last of the highlights, I was ready for him to be done. That got sore. I was just glad that he is such an efficient and awesome tattooist or it would have taken longer and not turned out so well. Shout out to Jamie Izumi @ Tora Tattoo.

Dont take any notice of anyone who says a tattoo doesn't hurt, they all do to a degree - your having one or multiple needles piercing your skin thousands of times a minute. Only people trying to be full of bravado say there is no pain. Best way i find to describe it is if someone is gently cutting your skin with a craft knife. The real pain comes when tattooing is done multiple times over the same area during a session, i.e. when shading or colouring. Different areas of the body are also much more sensitive than others and will therefore be more painful. The only way your going to find out is by having one.

For me the feeling felt like the first initial "sting" for lack of a better word, when you get a shot but it is there constantly, which actually makes it better because you don't have the anticipation of that feeling.

put a fork in the micro wave for 1 min, take it out and with medium force rub it on your skin

I know that its illegall in america to get a tattoo under the age 18 but i live in europe and here you can get one with premission from ur parents at the age 14 I'm 14 and got one on My ribs 2 arrows. I'm not a pussy but it actually really did hurt😂 but its a sensetive place they said, but i thought that if i want something forever on My body then it doesn't matter if it hurts so i did it. I'm really happy with the result but you have to think for a long time. Its not nothing. But the main reason why i did the tatt on My ribs is that you have to cover ur tattoo when you go to work. Most of the people doesn't want you if you have a tattoo. And if i Don't Like it anymore when i'm older *not that that is gonna happen* its on my ribs so you don't see it that much. The tattoo shop were i went wasn't exspensive but we knew him and he is a very clean worker. But i'm not very happy with the end of the arrow its un even but i'm going back and let it make how i want it.

i got a leg tattoo , very sensitive spot n painful asf!!! all i can say to anybody is, if u really want it , you gotta accept the pain. the longer the it takes the more painful it gets. it stingys like a sun burn but after 4 days ur good. and on with your life

Shaving actually removes a very minuscule layer of skin, hence your older ink looks fresher.

For me the best explanation was like a bee or wasp stinger getting moved across you. its a sting where the needle is and heat surrounding it but that may just be me or where I got mine

it feels like you are very slowly getting a sunburn. nothing crazy, I actually really enjoy it.

Itching is a sign of healing. It happens to surgical cuts when they heal or any cuts when they heal. I had my gallbladder removed and the cuts in the skin itched badly when they started to heal.

Tattoo feels like having a sunburn and someone scratching you. but for me the coloring in doesnt hurt at all since its numb after the outline is done. Always use Vitamin E while healing over but NO polysporin, that will pull the ink out!

I have two sleeves on my arms now and I'm addicted I think placement plays a very big role on how much the pain is for me elbow was the worst but you get use to it when the endorphins kick in feels like burning mainly my best friend is a tattoo artist and he had a girl pass out on her first tattoo and she literally peed herself. great tattoo btw

Thus far, my sleeve is tickling. About 2/3 done and before I get killed for saying this.... massive nerve damage = tattoo sleeve tickling. Best part is when you are in hour 4 of a grind, chatting with your artist and fine and watching big bikers start to squirm and whinge in their first 20 min. Also, considering all the health crap and damage, when friends whine "it's not fair" it doesn't hurt me, trust me. 2 years of being sick and honestly thinking cutting it off was a viable option until the worst was over means I feel no guilt it the tattooing being easy.
