Hi Tim, great work on fencing and hedgerows in the off season! I am not familiar with hedgerows but have learned a lot from you in the past month! Love to Maggie!❤

Hi all. How about two or three English oak trees , for no other reason than to place a mark on the landmark that will last for generations . So some time in the future folks will say , see them big old oak trees . Well they were planted by the DIY farm family bless ‘em Kind regards as always

Tim, Jo, I adore this and the other channel and always look forward to new videos. But dear sweet god, enough with the fencing :)

It would be awesome if you could do an aerial video going through all the camps after it's fenced. Getting so invested in your farm. Feels like I know it well now. I dont miss a single video. 🎉🎉

Mulberry trees, black and white varieties would be great and they should be fruiting when the girls are still teenagers (6-10 years time). Plus they’ll still be there in 300-500 years.

Pollarding or coppicing is worth considering perhaps - reach for Oliver Rackham's books

Re your corner, any local 'specialist' species you might get a bit more income for? Otherwise Alder like it wet and are a good feed source for birds, etc. I'd have said bee hives if it wasn't prone to flooding. Excellent fencing work and I look forward to the DIY hedge laying channel in 2030 too...

We have 2 apiary sites elsewhere for the hives. Thinking we may try some truffle inoculated hazel there as something different. The whole brook tree line is alder and willow so hoping for something different.

Start a firewood corner, some fast growning cut and come again trees like holly, eucalyptus with a mix of Ash, oak and pine? Was thinking of suggesting truffle hazel for your hedges closer to the house. Easier to pick/harvest if they’re close by! Love to content.

Just need to train the dog. She comes from truffle hunting champion lines in Italy and Serbia so I’d hope she would pick it up quick! Mind you it would be a few years.

River birch, silver maple would also look good in that area. Just a thought 😊

I'd suggest some Alder for your damp corner. Handsome trees and the wood is great for use in water.

Alder is all we have so hoping for something different. The whole of the tree line is hundreds of them so the do grow well there.

Got many nut trees yet? Might be good for the corner maybe... all looking really good, coming together nicely :)

Feel like they would survive the squirrels better up by the farm but certainly could do a few down there. 👍

Don't you dream of closure with all that you have done? For the marshy plot I think that planting willows would not be bad because they have a high water requirement (400L per adult tree) and moreover we can prune them into tadpoles in order to obtain a large quantity of branches to crush for mulch.

I don't envy you doing all this. But good work, you've mentioned it helps with stewardship grants is this something you could explain in a video potentially. Setting up a Freinds if a country park locally a wondering if we could achieve similar
@diyfarm
@diyfarm 7 месяцев назад
I did go through it in a video a while back but I’m all honestly only learning myself! CS grants are available on holdings over 12 acres but also others around for smaller or different parcels of land. Hopefully once we have been through the process ourselves we can share more. 👍

I don't see any cedar trees - I have a half-dozen on my acreage, probably a hundred or more years old, huge and beautiful. They are on the riverbank and seem to do well there. Something to consider?
