Hey Kev, as a Basic Filmmaker University Student i would first want to say: Thank you for everything! You helped me a ton and I like all your courses. I would love to learn your tricks on the "boring" stuff, like how you archive your videos, so you will find them again, if you ever need something from it. Also how you come up with video ideas and then create the script. How do you handle procrastination, scripting, storytelling and so on. I also would like to see reviews and gear recommendations of the gear you actually use But no matter what you produce, i will watch all your vids. I like your style of delivery and the very important information in every video. Keep up the great work :)

Hey Kevin! What I really have wanted to see for well over 6 years is an over the shoulder POV shot of you riding a boosted board, in your community, doing a live video chat on your iPhone with Curtis Judd. 🙂 OK, now to get serious. My answer is do what is in YOUR heart, because that's where the best quality has, and always will, come from. What inspires you will always inspire us! Thanks Kevin!

I would like to see a complete breakdown on Story telling. So many channels say this is how to tell a story, beginning middle and end ( Who, conflict, resolution) but they NEVER give an example of that. If you could show a step by step with a simple example and breakdown of each and different ways to spin them into different possible stories that would be great.

I like guides on the stuff that doesn't seem to change very much over time--the "basics," to take a cue from your channel's name. Think of lighting, blocking a scene, and that sort of thing, on the production side. When it comes to editing, I like to know more about what techniques are available and what they're used for, rather than the technical details of how to do a specific thing in a particular editor. I like it when one of your videos circles back to some essential axiom that isn't always spelled out, such as "viewers will put up with a lot of things, but they won't tolerate bad audio." That's an example of something that I seem to remember as being really helpful from some of your videos.

Merry Christmas Kevin, enjoy your time together with family and friends. What I would like you to touch on, to some degree, are the things you "see" that most of us are either unaware of, don't give enough attention to, or in some way "get it wrong" or "Don't get it at all". I value your video topics/content-covered, presentations, your natural teaching skills and passion. And I suspect there's some areas you would like us to see from a different paradigm; to have more interesting insite into this wonderfully overflowing thing we call "watch and learn". It is a vast thing.

All of the above... 😊 Reviews of the latest products are interesting, but additionally, how to effectively employ something like an ATEM Mini, similar to the video you did on video cameras, comparing the advantages to a DSLR. Basics, scripting, storyboarding, etc. One of my favorite videos you did was on your setup, which light mounts you use, those remote plug-in switches that are awesome, btw. Making videos isn't a one discipline craft. There are technical aspects as well as artistic aspects and procedural considerations. It's probably not a very helpful answer if you were looking for a directional focus, but that's really difficult when looking at such a multifaceted subject. Hope you are doing well, Kevin.

#1. You're looking and sounding so good. #2. I want to learn hybrid-shooting and production skills. I am a musician & teacher, so I need to make content, promote gigs, acquire students, brand my projects, record live music and capture excellent photo/video in the field, and stay organized throughout. Perhaps other artists that are seeking strategies to improve and deliver media, each in our own unique fields. Specifically, I want to learn how to (a) STRUCTURE MY WORKFLOW, (b) edit LIKE A BOSS in premiere pro (for a wide range of formats), and (c) become proficient in the rest of the Adobe suite. #3. THANK YOU!! Keep up your awesome work. I think it would help me personally to watch a "Greatest Hits" playlist of yours to help get me up to speed with what I wrote above. Adios!

A 2023 review of shotgun mics. Also, an explanation of when to use which mic. For example, I thought for sure a shotgun made sense for a lunch / speaker presentation i went to recently, but i got the worst audio. I'm wondering if i should have done something different. I wouldn't have been able to use a lavaliere mic, because it wasn't my event, and i also couldn't plug into the sound board...

Kevin: I would like to see more "hands on" filmmaking. How about a series on the different roles of the folks involved in the filmmaking process especially the lesser known roles. Make a short film and explain the filmmaking roles as you (or whoever you have) preform them. (on-set lighting, on-set decorating, DP, ADP,) I might even like to see movie reviews of classic or seminal works of moviemaking and why they are important. I like all of your content, with tips and tricks up at the top of my list and gear reviews at the bottom. But don't mistake the low ranking of the gear as a disinterest in gear in general but as gear in specific. For gear I'd like for you to explain the role of the pieces of gear and how to operate them in general (focus and how to make if perfect every time, exposure and how to set it, and cover each topic from a general view point, not what is specific for given camera etc.) But, in any case ..... if you make it' I'll watch it and thumb it up and comment (as long as you keep answering ... even the stupid jokes I make just to create a comment.) Thank you for your efforts and for taking into consideration what I want to see.

While reviews are interesting and fun to watch, they are really of little value to me since I'm not in a position to buy any of it. The basics of film making is interesting and valuable to me, including scripting, outlining ideas and any other basics you think of, lighting, sound, camera placement and so forth. Hope that helps. 🙂

I just produced my first 4K HDR Dolby Vision RU-vid video using my iPhone 14 Pro. It was incredibly challenging from editing to exporting a full HDR product getting RU-vid to accept it. How about a series about “pushing the limit with smartphones”? Or, since so many people are using their phones now to film and edit their movies, how about updating some of your older topics on lighting, green screen, etc. for smartphone filming?

Hi. It's a long time since my last time here so I'll get to the point. Given that the name is "the basic filmmaker", stress on "basic", I think all in general is what it's supposed to be about. The thing is how to divide the time into all the subjects, and that is your word. To me, the thing I'm usually less interested in are reviews, though I know that in case those are sponsored (which doesn't mean necessarily biased) they are good for the channel, of course. I'm less interested in them because basic filmmakers usually mean less budget and all that comes with it. But hey, it's nice to know about relatively cheap but useful gear or whatever. To me, the most interesting parts are those that can't be found in a spec list or instruction manual.
@lizjoe21750
@lizjoe21750 Год назад
My choices from most to least important: 1) Basic 2) General info 3) Reviews. IMHO, you'll limit the channel by doing reviews because firstly, everyone and their brother has a review channel. Besides, reviews are subjective. Owning a Steinway concert grand doesn't make one a concert pianist. I'd rather know basic filming info so I can use the tools I have at my disposal to make better films (or more honestly, videos, LOL).
