Street researcher and consultant Christopher Littlefield exposes our hidden relationship to recognition in this lively and eye-opening talk. He discusses how we actually aren't very good at accepting compliments and often we don't even know it. He exposes the crazy ways we manipulate others with recognition and the profound difference a simple compliment can make in someone's life. Christopher asks us to rethink our relationship to recognition starting by asking others the question "What do you want to be acknowledged for?" Through this question, he helps us realize that most of the time we don't actually want to be acknowledged for the result, but for all the ups and downs, the challenges and barriers, we overcame to produce the result.

About TEDx
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations).
