My mother always says that I’m not disabled (I’m autistic) and so she takes away the things that make me calmer (like less music, quieter talking, less people in one small space) because according to her “I bend over backwards to make you comfortable all year, just let me have this” She then gets mad at my for hyperventilating during panic attacks and meltdowns because she finds the sound of it annoying and she tells me to stop and mimics me but really rudely, acting like I’m being really whiney when I hyperventilate Holidays are exhausting

that’s extremely ableist and bordering abuse, i’m so sorry ): Do you have a therapist or teacher you can talk to?

@@GoddessMisfit there’s someone at my school who specialises with undiagnosed autistic people and I’m planning on telling him He also talks with me about my hyperfixations a lot which is really nice

It sounds like your mother may have a similar diagnosis if she looked into it.

I wish there were some sort of autism awareness program in each high school/middle school class so people learn what autism really is and that it shouldn't ever be stigmatised. If they could even teach it as a class for people who want to be specialists, there would be an option for that and plus there aren't enough autism specialists in this world which is why so many people are undiagnosed due to inavailability of resources

yess agree! my sociology textbook says a lot of kids w disorders don’t get the support they need in school because they’re not diagnosed

The one about stimming hits hard. I get super excited about things, and I can stim very hard and very visibly. A lot of people around me (especially my father) get angry when I stim, and I've been yelled at to stop.

unrelated, but I LOVE your hair !!! I personally wish I could just say sorry to everyone I've been friends with in the past, back when I didn't know how to interact with others. I wish I can tell them if was my fault, and not theirs.

yrsssss especially to those first two. I try to tell people I'm working closely with that if I'm mad, they'll know it because I'll tell them point blank I got into so much trouble for "being rude" by asking clarifying questions and I kept going I just need to know the information to make my brain process things! it's how I see connections

I've been told a lotof the time to stop stimming or i just get given "the look" by my mom and she doesn't believe that i have autism only ADHD. She also said to my grandparents and aunt that i had adhd and autism but she doesn't belive that i have autism when i told her i didnt want her to and i feel like online is the only safe space because i can only talk to my dad when my mom isnt home or she will get mad and say im talking bad about her behind her back.

I wish they stopped saying “you don’t act autistic” because what they think is autistic is a crazy 5 year old, I’m tired of it

I have ADHD and I have a brother with autism but the thing is that we both are pretty blunt and straightforward. Luckily I finally found people who dont mind dealing with it.

I think my parents are finally starting to understand how being autistic is for me a little. My mom still thinks my meltdowns/shutdowns are tantrums however and punishes/berates me for them and says that I’m being “ungrateful” when all I’m doing is getting stressed out by the texture of something 😂
@This1_aj
@This1_aj 2 месяца назад
That first one is so true!! I have to tell people that I’m genuinely just asking because I want to get it correct. My mom says I always have to smart off, but when I don’t ask questions than I get it wrong and she is still mad at me Or I ask why people like something. Not because I am judging them for liking it, but because I like hearing why someone enjoys something!

I wish people understood that when I’m stressed I can’t tell them what’s wrong because I go non-verbal. And I can’t help it.
@GoddessMisfit
@GoddessMisfit 7 месяцев назад
not to take away from what you’re saying (and i will include your words in another video❤️) but you can’t “go nonverbal”, the proper term would be verbal shutdown or temporary speech loss!/nm nonverbal refers to the entire experience of not being able to speak

My parents both tell me to stop using my autism as a reason for what is seen as normally wrong or abnormal about me, yet I'm just stating a reality. What I have are symptoms that come along with having autism, a disability which I have trouble living with day by day. I don't have anyone to rely on to learn how to deal with it nor how to accommodate with it. I have so much going on and every day is a living hell for me, especially on school days. I just hope it gets better someday and that I'm allowed to explain why I do things without being reprimanded for using my disability as an "excuse".

I wish they knew that this isn't some quirky TikTok fad. It's a real disability, and that people who are self-disgnoded are not doing it for attention. We weren't lucky enough to learn about this earlier, or have access to professional diagnosis, this is the best we have to understand our needs and accommodate them.
