omg, now that makes sense. My tune shop told me i can't add a blowoff valve. Now i understand why. I wanted the cool sound, but not at the expense of my engine.

I like the fact that he says if ur light Modding your car. No need to upgrade you diverter valve/ blow of valve. I’m anticipating once you going stage two you should consider upgrading the DV/BOV.

adding a cold air intake helps to make the bov louder.

So, is there any reason I can’t disconnect the low pressure recirc side from my factory valve, and blank off the hole in the side of the intake, so as to turn the factory divert valve into a vent to atmo BOV? The actual valve unit is functionally the same, isn’t it? Cheers!

Your lead photo shows a DV with two lines. Most simple have only one line - for manifold vacuum. Q1: Is the 2nd line for turbo Boost sense? Q2: what benefit is an IPCV added to a simple DV (a DV with 1 vacuum line control)? Porsche 944 Turbo, Forge DV. Adding a Forge IPCV.

(Found out mine was disconnected since I bought it on a 1.8L T, wondered what that bird flutter sound was after an acceleration :( . Somehow never threw any codes and wasn't caught in two dealer inspections!

Back in the day I used to soup up a few turbo dodge cars,,, non of those used mass air flow sensors,, all you had to do was trick the map sensor from showing a overboost condition

So my question is. I recently bought a Forge atmospheric BOV for my 2014 mk6 gti 2.0tsi and the only mod under my hood is a CAI. so my completely stock 2017 gti s shows up to 33-34 psi under heavy acceleration. i heard somewhere that uniwhatever max boost is somewhere between 20-25, and apr would be somewhere between 25-30. so stock being higher than that seems questionable. do you guys know if the built in boost gauge is accurate?

I know this might be a dumb question but im learning do u need a turbo for a blow off valve

Sooo... a wastegate is meant to be opened if too much pressure builds, which then makes the exhaust gasses pass, without entering the turbocharger....and a blow off valve is meant to protect a turbocharger from a compressor stall which happens when the pressure can't get to the engine because the throttle body is closed. So the blow off vlave is located between intake and engine, while the wastegate is located either in the turbocharger itself or between engine and turbocharger in the exhast pipe...right?

BOV shuld be before the intercooler, that way you don't circulate hot useless air to heat up your intercooler, also releasing pressure earlier

I'm trying to mythbust the idea that engine mgt systems account for meter air during the dump. I am an electronics engineer and on my car, a 95 Volvo 940, and having experienced recirc valve failure, I am fairly certain this is complete rubbish. The throttle and idle circuit is also not designed to hold back pressure above atmostphereic (a key reason for the dump), it cannot control the air flow, and you end up with a weak mixture and engine stall when the throttle is closed during boost. The ECU needs to know the load, and this is done to some uncertainty (eg in idle closed loop feedback is used for a known expected load, otherwise an overly rich micture is used to account for unknown load or slow response of MAF). It the engine is using 'stored' air after the MAF it cannot know the load, and the only thing to do is to dump the high pressure air and restore to atm pressure. This is where the other myth comes in, that air is recirculated in a production car, most of it isn't. If you have 5L of air at 15psi above atm, you need to get rid of 5L of air at atm pressure in order to depressurise (this is required in LPT version of my car aswell, only boosting to 3.5psi above atm and WILL stall while the inlet depressurises without any dump). This air is dumped out of the air filter, it reverses out over a about 0.5s, during which time the engine rpms are slowing. Air flow is only measured at an instant, and sudden throttle closing, invalidates the measurement because the engine will be running of stored air, and assumptions made for idle will be wrong, and any feedback mechanisms (such as O2 scanning) are too slow to compensate. The the air is dumped to make the MAF valid again, although to be honest, mainly the air flow is assumed and rpm and O2 used during idle.
