Non-EDC mentioned: - Rand McNally map - Faraday bag (with extra phone inside) - Iridium Satellite phones - Citizens Band radio - VHF Radio - Solar panels and power charging stations

He nailed the primary reason to carry a tourniquet as a civilian. Of course, you want to have it if SHTF, but the majority of fatalities in car accidents are people bleeding out before help arrives. Studies show around 31k Americans bleed out every year from various injuries they could have otherwise survived.

My country(UK)has made most of the population impotent as we are not allowed to carry guns of any kind unless you are licensed to do so (military law enforcement ) we are not allowed to carry a knife longer than 2 inches and it cannot lock! it really grates with me the way the laws in this country are heading, especially since I am a former Soldier. I love your show it's very interesting.

Mike Glover is correct - a 'ham radio' provides options far beyond anything else if the S hits the fan. And, don't whine, spend a little bit of time and get your amateur license - it's easy. Why? it helps acquaint you with a protocol and SOP. MANY ham operators are former military so they're not whining when they tell you to get licensed - they understand that SOP reduces chaos and improves the tool for everyone using it....and I know people who, if the grid went down, could get 'repeater' stations up in no time...suddenly your ham radio is allowing you to communicate vast distances.

I don't know, something about the honesty of him saying: "until seeing how fast people bleed out" just hit home. Thankfully, I have never had to see someone bleed out! I do have several tourniquets, and I know how to use them, just haven't got myself to carry them EDC. Maybe I should try harder.

You can tell when he’s talking about the EMP, that it’s going to happen soon and he knows it. His body language during that segment tells all.

GMRS license if you don’t have a HAM License it’s easy and cheap to get with no tests to take…It’s a 10 year license and your family can use your call sign.

I had a friend die in a very minor snowmobile accident. Unfortunately an artery in his leg was severed and he was gone in about two minutes, but a tourniquet could have saved his life.

If you’re stationed at a base in California you are not EDC-ing anything.

What good is a phone in a faraday bag if the entire system is down. You'll have a phone that powers on but won't have a system to connect to.

Analog preparedness! Networks go down and the world goes analog. Maps, compass, knife, binoculars, bic lighter, batteries, etc.

The p365 AXG legion definitely tops it for the best new EDC for inside the waistband. I just have a Burt bronze standard p365 with a 12 round mag instead of the 10 round mags that come with it and it’s great just kinda to snappy.

I've got my cz9mm, Xtra mag, Kershaw speed assisted, 2 Bic lighters, ear plugs, tourniquet, button compass, often have mylar space blanket/tent/poncho folded up about the size of a cd; & whatever else I think the day may require...I don't answer the door or check the mail w.o. edc! I ran into a guy taking pictures at a State park that has High Power lines going through it in South Dakota, and I noticed he was taking pictures of odd stuff with an odd camera. I approached him just to be friendly and he was very nervous and had a strong asian accent and when I asked where he was from he just kept saying "I am from the asian". Kind of weird, he left right after I talked to him, I was hoping if he was an operative he reported back " The civilians are huge, and appear friendly but also capable of violence" hahaha. Wouldn't know who or what to report such a thing to. All you can do as an American citizen is approaching the situation with confidence and being very friendly so that if they had ill intention they think twice. I did get the tags from his car and checked with a "friend" and it was a rented car. Kind of weird to have a single military age male at a State park play ground taking pictures for sure.

At least for my area of Houston I’ve skated so many miles I almost know the entire city without gps. My girlfriend is blown away everytime I look up somewhere we go one day and I’m like oh it’s here? Ok I know how to get there lol as long as I know where the destination is I’m about 90% capable of getting there just by memory.

I do cyber defense (and offence) and I don't get what you get out of the Faraday bag, anything with a microphone or a speaker can listen to you. And unless the Faraday bag is sound proof the phone will just listen and send the information when it's out. A Faraday bag will also be pretty ineffective against a cyber attack. You might not get hit immediately but if it is something large scale that is meant to target everyone indiscriminately, the phone will most likely get infected once you try to use it. If you want something to last a cyber attack just have an air gapped network that you never connect anything into without a whitening process. And even if you lose contact with the internet you can still use it to communicate with who you need. Depending on your scale you can get phones working on that as well. Things that are on an air gapped network won't get hit by a large scale cyber attack, an opposing force will have to specifically target them.
