In my experience, the network administrator responsible for administrating the network domain (windows server, Active directory, setting up users and computers and group policy for network access etc.) the network architect designs the entire forest and the engineer is the one who sets the parameters for the organizations entire network, delegates/ tasks the architect to design the network, sets the budget, and approves or denies the hardware chosen. The network engineer essentially can do every aspect of the job but the experience, and education determine the salary. But it really just depends on the organization

I work in level 2 as a Desktop Support Technician which most of people in my role transitions into System Administration which where I plan to head as well but I'm am how ever studying for my CCNA to open up more doors because I could go either route. I have quite a bit of knowledge on the server side building my first homelab back in 2013 every since Edward Snowden revelations that changed my interest into server and networking side of IT by building my own cloud infrastructure using owncloud. My homelab turned into a paid gig in 2015 that went into production for a small business I was hired to deploy it too. I was paid a large sum of money for the project as my first professional work experience with servers. Before that I was oringally going to school for Computer Science but quickly lost interest trying to become a software developer. I dropped out of college in 2015 and haven't went back to school since then given that in recent years degree requirements are going away and alternative training platforms have emerged such as boot camps and online training platforms that didn't exist 15+ years ago. All you really need to work in IT these days is experience, certifications and connections. Degrees are not so important given that this field is most experience and technology driven. Having a homelab and job shadowing the Network or system Admin team is crucial.

If you do not have experience - pass the exams and get useless certs from vendor. CCNP (or even CCNA sometimes) should be enough to get a job. Your task is to pass the HR filter and get to the stage of technical interview. There - if you had worked in your virtual lab you should be better than 90% percent of candidates, with all their magical 100-year experience about managing extremely complex network of 2 switches. Reason is quite simple - majority of network engineers do not have master degrees with major being somewhat close to networks. Also, looks like majority of them do not certify beyond CCNA (which is nothing nowadays). If, you are unlucky and live in some highly competitive area where you have a lot of specialists and lack of open positions, then go for certifications from some 2nd vendor. (Juniper, Huawei etc). Do not make mistake - you do not want to pass expert-level exams (***IE) before you have at least 3 years of real hands-on experience. As this is not yet worth time investment required to pass them successfully and even if you are an extremely talented person and somehow successfully pass them you will not be able to convert useless certificate into a bit less useless small pieces of paper with portraits of dead presidents at this point of your career. Next things to learn should be AWS and maybe some Python (everybody knows it, so you may look a bit strange if you do not.)
