It really looks great. I shot that same combination of film and filter today. I think Kentmere 400 is a wonderful film, it has that classic 400 asa black and white look and it's my go to film nowadays.

Thanks. I have had mixed results with Kentmere 400, probably due to using a non-optimum developer with it, but I am delighted with the latest results. Cheers, Keith

Many beautiful images - the filter really is beneficial. I appreciate the full range of tonality - black and while film, to me, should include both blacks and whites, and a good range in-between - your images do that very well. Cheers!

I’m down in Devon at the moment. I made the mistake of using my A-1 today, it’s been really sunny, so I was at f11 and 1/1000th on Kentmere 400. I’m taking my T90 out tomorrow because it has a faster top shutter speed of 1/4000th. I may still go with the A-1, but with Fomapan 100. I love the Canon A-1!

Hi Ian! Big vistas and small apertures worked for Ansell Adams, so maybe you'll surprise yourself! The film I'm finishing off in the A-1 is APX100 and the weather has been at both extremes. Enjoy Devon! Cheers, Keith

The images came out great Keith. I think I might have to invest in some coloured filters (you should be on commission). Interestingly I just picked up a '90s plastic Minolta today for £3.23, hopefully it works (was listed and described as working). It was a listing with a misspelled title, I think it probably didn't turn up in many searches. I have shot Kentmere 100 and was happy with that, I might give 400 a go too after I use up my pair of XP2 films I have in stock. Nice video👍

Thanks Andrew. I'm just a bit hacked off that I didn't start using the filters earlier. The Minolta might surprise you - I've shot Olympus and Konica zoom compacts from that era and the quality was great. Can't wait to see the results! Cheers, Keith

@@theoldunsshot1005 This was a Dynax 404si with a kit lens.
@theoldunsshot1005
@theoldunsshot1005 Год назад
@@AndrewWaltonPhotography I have a Dynax 4 and it has all the modes you could wish for. I am guessing the 404si is a close relative. If the lens is the 28-80 f3.5-5.6, expect crisp shots in good light and a bit of softness at wide apertures. The Minolta AF SLRs surprised me with the quality of the metering. Happy shooting! Keith.

@@theoldunsshot1005 One flaw with it, the discoloured viewfinder but for £3 I ain't complaining. Came with 2 cr2 batteries too! Just got to run a film through it.
@theoldunsshot1005
@theoldunsshot1005 Год назад
@@AndrewWaltonPhotography £3!!!!! You got that for a bargain price - even the AF SLR camera prices have shot up. The viewfinders on these AF SLRs are quite dim anyway, being pentamirrors rather than prisms. I'm sure you'll have fun with it.

Does Polarizer Filter have effects on B&W photos?
@theoldunsshot1005
@theoldunsshot1005 2 месяца назад
Hi. I have only used a polarizer in B&W once. It does cut down on reflections at certain angles and can cut a bit of atmospheric haze. Cheers, Keith

Prefer these set of shots but as you're changing more than one variable its difficult to make a true comparison. These shots looked crisper. Perhaps the red filter only needs two stops extra and not three.
@theoldunsshot1005
@theoldunsshot1005 Год назад
I shot both films on aperture priority, trusting each camera's meter to get it right. My main goal was to show that filters can add punch to shots taken on budget film.. I have previously been a bit disappointed with Kentmere 400, and I am a bit of a novice using filters for B&W, so I am enjoying the new experience. Cheers, Keith

I have to admit I find filters tricky. You try to pre-visualise and you never quite get what you expected. I think its as much about the direction of light as the camera, lens, film or how many stops you give it. I suppose that's the fun of film, you're never exactly sure what you're going to get ... at least I'm not 🤔 @@theoldunsshot1005
