Matt thanks for sharing, I really enjoy ur channel. But when I see you sitting at your computer with some spreadsheets open, you have my full attention. Matt is like this up in southwestern Ontario too. Everybody thinks there is so much money in farming but there really isn't and if mother nature throws a bad year at you crop insurance only covers your expenses and I always noticed those bills always come in that mailbox that has to be paid and some days we wonder why we do it but we do😊😊

Some other youtube farmers say they never make any money from farming but then you find out things like all their homes are owned by the farm so all housing costs are paid by the farm. Individuals involved in the farm own pieces of equipment and lease them back to the farm. The farm doesn't own much land but the people working on the farm own land and lease it to the farm. So "the farm" never makes any profit but they also were audited by the IRS and owed an additional $5000. They say with a straight face that the farm never pays them for their labor. They seemingly work hard for nothing.

"Unless we can pay cash for equipment we don't buy it" - last of a dying breed there folks. Watch some of the other big shot YTers their up to there eye balls. Hats off in showing the general public how much $ is handled and how little is actually made. Its terrifying at times !

Do your cost share land lords get a share of the ascs payments that you get and the cover crop payment

They get a share of program payments through the FSA. They do not get a share of EQIP payments for cover crops because they do not pay a portion of the costs

70k isn't much for all your work but wouldn't abetter way of looking at what you made would be increase in net worth? Especially when your calling loan repayment and equipment purchase an expense when it would add directly to net worth.
