What Does It Take To Become A Watchmaker? 

That’s crazy. I’m also an aircraft mechanic (helicopters) and I also want to be a watchmaker.

I have an OCD for learning stuff kind of feel like a man of many trades but a master of none lol I went to school for electrical engineering now I’m in school for metalworking but I’ve always wanted to learn watchmaking time pieces are amazing when you take into account the number of moving parts and everything!

At 65, after a life of CNC machining, I know I no longer have the eyesight, the patience, and least of all the dexterity to do it with any success, but I like fooling around at home and every now and ten I get one to run!

I'd be willing to bet there is a good amount of people in the watch community who have a technical mechanical background. I was born in the mid 60's where cars were the main interest. As a kid, I had HO scale train and race tracks I would constantly take the cars apart and clean the motors. Still to this day, I do all mine and my wife's car major and minor repair. It's actually therapeutic. I always liked watches and was given a Timex as a kid in the early 70's by my father and for some reason at around 40, got really interested in the watch hobby. Not just collecting them but I have interest in the automatic mechanical movement and have service my own eta movements just by watching videos on youtube.

I'm a construction worker and I want to be a watch maker I did not grow up in a family of mechanics I've always been interested in them but always fell off because I needed to make money to live. my family has been poor for at least past 100 years since we came to America. I'd love to learn watchmaking but don't have the funds to pay.

I am working in aviation field as quality engineer and interested to be a watchmaker.

Do any of these programs ever accept older people in their 50s, or do you have to be fresh out of high school? Also I was just on the AWCI website and they have something where if you join and are referred from another member, you both will receive a DVD archive of some sort. Do you have a membership that I could list you as a referral before I join?

I am an auto mechanic looking to become a watchmaker. I actually also live only 60 miles from Lititz, I am going to look into AWCI , and apply for LWT. Hoping I make the cut, wish me luck!
