I love that little ghost note you put right after the backbeat in a lot of your playing. It's almost like a tiny, controlled rebound. Definitely going to try it out next time I play!
Dude! I just finished the video, and I wanted to tell you: my drum kit is gathering dust, I've been thinking of selling it, making excuses for why I haven't played in such a long time… But watching this video, watching you play some of the songs I KNOW how to play (somewhat), I'm 100% determined to dust off the ol' kit and get back into practicing every day. I know WHAT I'll play, WHAT I'll practice, in which order, for how much much. You literally inspired me. This is it. I'm back. Thank you, so much.
It's uncanny how much this specific video feels tailored to me at this moment in time. You're playing the songs I love, with the energy I'm looking for, you're talking about the specific things I value in drumming, and you're giving tips for exactly the pain points I felt when I started disconnecting from the practice. I remember I was super frustrated with not being able to play the verses on "International You Day", by No Use For a Name, and not really wanting to slow it down too much for practice. You touched on pretty much everything I wanted/needed to hear. LET'S GOOOOOOOO
He gets it! It’s a performance and entertainment. The crowd wants a drummer hitting hard, snapping sticks, sawdust everywhere and dozens of destroyed cymbals at the end of a tour.
I had no idea who this kid was until I watched the recent Offspring at Hellfest. He's one of those drummers that makes you want to drop everything and just go play drums.... And the amount of emphasis he puts on drum orchestration and dynamics is pretty damn inspirational. Brilliant!
Ron Welty (the original drummer of the Offspring) was such a huge influence on me when I was first learning to play and doesn't get anywhere near the credit he deserves. It was great to see Brandon recognize a lot of Ron's nuances (like the quarter open high hat on the original recording of self esteem) and replicate them. Great job!
Yes! My only grievance with drumeo is they don’t mention the OG when they have the new guy in the studio. When Art Cruz was in the studio, they never mentioned Chris Adler once. WTF!
You can tell by the way this kid talks about drumming that he is well on his way to becoming one of the best drummers on the planet. What a resume before 30. Unreal.
This is wild. I met @BrandonPertzborn11 ~10 years ago when we were both pretty fresh out of high school and playing drums for our church, and he was doing his local stuff in DFW. Such a kind and genuine guy, and it’s great to see that hasn’t changed a bit over the years. Awesome to see your success since the FC days, man. Keep it up.
Right on, similar story; met him about a decade ago when he was in an opening band on tour with John 5 who I'd just started playing bass with... next he was in Doyle's band co-headlining with us, then I had the pleasure of playing like 2 gigs with him in another band locally. Soon after that he started down the crazy laundry list of other artists! I've bumped into him a few times since and said hello; just a super positive energy and the nicest guy as always. Exactly who you want in your band. Makes me happy to see that translate into success. Proud of you, man!
He's just a really solid, hard-working drummer. He plays with authority and passion. Every drummer, no matter what level, should take a page out of this guy's book. He has a HUGE career ahead of him, and I can't wait to see what else is in store for him.
That's exactly what I though when I discovered him on RU-vid many years ago. Not the most technical difficult stuff, but god damn it is so well played, with high energy and true passion.
Saw them this Summer in France. Can’t believe Dexter and Noodles are almost 60. It felt like i was 15 again (i’m 39). And man… Brandon is such an incredible part of it. He’s an amazing drummer and musician. The last time i saw them was in 2013, more than 10 years ago and Pete was behind the kit and it was really really great. Well, let me tell you that Brandon kill the shit out of it!
@@ConeJellos yea how stupid of me to assume if you’re watching a video on drumeo featuring the current drummer for the offspring you’ve seen the video for one of their most popular songs. . .
I have my 9 year old watching this with me. He just started playing drums back in March. I saw Brandon and Offspring here in Austin a year ago and told him what a fantastic drummer he was. I love all the little things he talks about that I’d never even think to ask. Great video!!
I didn't know him before, but when my friend and I went to an Offspring concert this July, we looked at each other and said, 'This drummer is insane!' It was a pleasant surprise to later enjoy a Drumeo video featuring Brandon
Saw The Offspring at Slam Dunk Festival in Leeds last year and I remember just watching this guy just powerhouse through the whole set. Never seen a drummer be so delibrate with his breathing to make sure he never dropped the energy for a second. It made me realise as a drummer myself, just how integral cadio is and being in shape just elevates your playing tenfold.
Such a great drummer. Seen The Offspring this summer in Greece for the first time and it was such an awesome experience. Been playing in bands as well and the drummer is the most important piece of the band. He sets the tone and provides the energy. This guy... This guy is a powerhouse!
Offspring are one of those bands. Ive never once sat down and listened to their music, never even searched up a song. Yet i still manage to know 5-10 of their songs very well. Which is basically the same for all of the 80s bands as well. To me that means theyve been pretty damn successful if i know their music without ever seeking them out.
They are so worth checking out. Their "unknown" stuff is great. specially if you listen to the albums year by year. Their sound evolves, lyrics and theme wise.
I saw im this year with The Offspring and he was phenomenal. The entire band was amazing and he brought so much energy! As a drummer myself i was blown away and so proud of him for bringing me back to my days at University in the 90s- he was perfect!
Fuck ya, Brandon's probably one of the very best modern day punk/hardcore/metal drummers out there killin the scene, his gnarly fucking work with Alex and Doyle!!!
Brandon seems like such a cool and humble dude! You can really tell he puts his soul and all effort into his drumming. It's cool to see and hear how he really studies the drum parts in detail and really cares about dynamics and musicality. No wonder so many great bands has hired him. Saw him with The Offspring last year and he killed it!
I first saw Brandon in a small club in Brooklyn with Black Flag then with Doyle, then Suicidal...he just keeps popping up in bands I love. This guy is a machine and such a smart musician. I'm so glad he's getting his flowers.
Seen them yesterday here in Italy, what a show! The whole band performed to a great level, and the exact moment you could tell the gears aligned and the band took off is the switch to double time in "staring at the sun"...from there it was an absolute blast. I had seen the Offspring before during the Americana tour and I have to say Brandon delivered it all and then some, he even had a short and very fitting solo. Really amazing
I don't play an instrument but love listening to all kinds of music, and I love this series of differnt drummers. This episode especially gave me such a great perspective on drumming that a casual listener would classify as "easier". And listening to the artist and their passion is always the best part for me. Thanks guys 🤘 🥁 🤘
this dudes passion leaps off the screen he exudes his massive amount of love for drums makes wanna go play my drums this is high quality content which drumeo always gives us but this one in particular is introducing me to a drummer i never knew but will be keeping my eye out for now my 5 year old got a drum kit for his 4th bday and he can't take his eyes off the screen with this bloke great job mate your an amazing drummer
This was so great. I'm not a drummer. Guitar player, bur enjoyed every second of this Live. Brandon is awesome. Can't wait for more videos from him with you guys at Drumeo!
Much love and respect to Brandon Pertzborn for his accomplishments. Loved this video and thank you for sharing your lessons learned playing with different bands and touring. Awesome!!
It's so cool to see how much he enjoys talking about what he does. He seems like a super cool down-to-earth guy that just wants to talk about drumming.
Thanks for that amazing video Drumeo. Those songs bring back so many memories from 30 years ago. I really enjoyed watching Brandon and see how passionate he is about the drumming. Amazing artist
Fudge!!! He's so amazing!!! Thank you for performing and teaching us 🙏🏽🙏🏽 I wish I had time to practice. Hopefully one day. You're incredibly inspiring. Thank you Drummeo
Dudes has definitely became one of my favourite drummers, he brings so much energy to the offspring. I saw them live in Ottawa this summer and they were amazing
Fantastic interview. What an amazing story this kid has. His enthusiasm is infectious. I’m a massive punk rock fan. Derek Grant, ex Alkaline Trio, the vandals is who inspires me but this kid is awesome. Massive respect!
47:22 this is the highlight amongst highlights. At the start I wondered about him but with every minute he was more and more exciting to watch. His work ethic is really great ands playing across the bands he has by his age. Great.
and I just found this moment that is a reminder of why we should make the most of our abilities ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xMDjQlt9Cek.html
Absolutely awesome! I caught a bit of this when you first streamed it and have been waiting for you to release it. Brandon is amazing! The energy is second to none! So glad it's available now! Thanks
Dawg is eating 🔥🔥🔥 no over playing ! Playing the songs as written and just grooving with crispy ahh timing. So much respect. Giving what it needs to give 🤌🏽👏🏽💥
I saw him play at Bluesfest in Ottawa this summer, dude is legit quick, snappy and brings the energy. I have a video of his drum solo at the end of the night. Really awesome!
Ok my mind is blown! I had no idea black flag was still around! To hear him play and hear the vocals sounding exactly like they did in the 70’s and 80’s was facking amazing! The Offspring is more my age growing up in the 90’s and watching him on that brilliant Pearl kit inspires the heck out of me! What an amazing drummer this guy is!
I think it's great these old bands are getting young drummers. It brings so much more energy to their live sets, it's incredible. It's hard because the old drummers are so good, but the energy they're able to project live is less because drums are such a physical instrument. I saw Sabbath not too long ago and drummer made their set soooo good, he did solos and played like he was having the gig of his life.
As a fan of The Offspring, I'm sooooo glad he's the drummer of the band. He brought so much energy!!! He's wonderful. Thanks for this video, and hopefully the ones that will come with him, I enjoyed listening to him speak, how passionate and kind he is. Can't wait for them to come back to Argentina. If you read this, much love, Brandon ♥
