Jim is becoming a better presenter with his descriptions of the steps he takes operating the machining. Thanks for those explanations.

Jim, I remember overhauling an odd firing V sick ~45 years ago. That little engine ran quite well following the rework. That was my early days at an aviation related machine shop. The two partners that owned the shop used that overhaul to offer up some amazing training for my then apprenticeship. Rebore was done on a large Bridgeport mill that was made around the WWII time. What a time to be making chips fly!! Love this channel and you and Nick are awesome and a blessing!!

Thank you Jimmy so much for once again showing us your determined and high quality work in your shop. It seems that after you got some diamond stones you can rely on the honing machine adjustments more than before.

My first vehicle was a 1967 Jeep CJ-5 that had one of these engines. I've always had a fondness for the Buick 225 V6 Dauntless. This, and the preceding video have been fun to watch.

The JAMSI shop camera theory on display today. The one that states "A part edge, and camera focus are sharp at the same time, but only one sharpness can exist when both are observed simultaneously." It's a very little know theory, and one I just made up.

Good morning. I was wondering if one time you guys could rebuild a 454 ( this is what we run on our farm for water the crops) our local machine shop does rebuild them, but it cost us well over 25,000 to get a motor done. I feel the price is expensive and just wanted to know if you feel the price is fair for how many hours and all brand new parts in it. ( Canada) I would love to know how many man h it takes you guys to rebuild these engines. Keep up the great work I learned so much from you guys.

I don't see where honing the rods would be a problem. You aren't taking that much out of them and putting them in a stock engine. If it was a high performance or racing engine it might be a problem. If I was building a high performance race engine I would put new rods in it regardless.

Jeep Dauntless = Buick odd fire V6. 60 lb flywheel to smooth out the vibrations in manual vehicles, the oil pump arrangement is lousy in them.
@tacoheadmakenzie9311
@tacoheadmakenzie9311 Час назад
True, the oil pump being part of the aluminum timing cover was not a great idea; working in an auto parts store in the 1980s, I sold several TRW high volume oil pump kits for Buick V6s.

I think the controversy around refinishing big ends is people not understanding old stock street engine parts are not going inside a 10,000rpm drag racer, and it likely doesn't matter in that application either. I'm not a machinist by trade but I can't recall ever getting rods back from the shop that weren't recon'd? Wouldn't it be silly not to??

Is it better to rebuild to stock or use new pistons using the thin low tension rings that are used today in factory production?

How much of your business is this special work and how much is standard modern engine work? Do shops in your area actually rebuild engines or just swap for a rebuild from somebody like Jasper?
