The scriptures tell us to test God with your tithes, the first Fruits, to bring them into the storehouse and see if He will not pour out a blessing that there's not room enough to contain. "The substance is found in Christ" New International Version: Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. (Malachi 3:10) Jesus is the tithe. He who is the image of the invisible God and has us engraved in his palms has been rendered to God. and He has poured out a blessing that there isn't enough room to contain on you who have been baptized, His Spirit! Jesus told the Pharisees that all the scriptures testify to (Point to/ Speak of) Him (Jesus, the LORD). Therefore wouldn't it be better to give the Fruit from the good Tree? Again, it seems to me the Tithe is Christ. The blessing "that there isn't enough room to contain" is The Spirit. And since Jesus has been offered up to God, God gives us the blessing in word and sacrament. The Spirit took Philip away before the Ethiopian could even offer any offering, though "He had charge of all his Queen's treasure". Juxtapose him with the rich young ruler who was told to sell all, give all, and follow Jesus (To death on a cross). The Ethiopian fulfilled that by being baptized. He died with Christ, thus leaving everything of his behind. The scriptures about tithing are about the True Substance. Just as Jesus' answer about the tax money was about Himself offered for us: “Whose image and inscription is this?” They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” ) Yes, we were made in the image of God. And everything is God's. We need to render ourselves to God, all our strength, all our heart, soul and mind; but lest we offer to God the offering of Cain, let us consider what God will accept from us... Jesus' answer wasn't to get Himself off the hook. It was the answer of God to offer His Son, to render Himself on the cross! He commanded that they render to God the things that are God's and the people obeyed when they cryied "Crucify Him!" Jesus is the Good Fruit from the Good Tree, made good for us. Those Figs are His deeds and those grapes where crushed, poured out for us and put in just the right kind of seller, the tomb, to be brought out at the appointed time to share. Stay away from the thorns and the thistles taking just a little of your blood, because It is the father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom in His Blood.

Is tithing a command, a command under the old covenant, or freely given? Did Abraham give from a command? Did Jesus speak to the levitical priesthood and about the temple that has cone down? I think it is not directly transposable to the Church, as the giving we are instructed to is to the poor and the working oxen for as far as I know.
