Have you ever seen these fruits? Living in the US, you do not get to see much of these tropical fruits. So when travelling, I make it a point to try various fruits and I was not disappointed. Now I know what they taste like and they are great! I encourage you to do the same and I highly recommend these.

Bought one for 3.00 dollars yesterday. It was worth it. Tangy, sweet, spongy, citrusy, and delicate. Beautiful fruit. They do have seeds.

I finally saw one for the first time at my local Sprouts Marketplace. I think I paid over $2 for one. Edit: I checked my receipt, it was $2.50 for one. However, when I opened it, it was totally rotted and moldy. So I still don’t know what they taste like. I think you have to pick the ones with outer skins that aren’t super dark and hard. The one I had was incredibly difficult to cut through that outer shell.

In Hawaii, they sell mangosteen everything- scented lotions, soap, air fresheners, perfumes, etc. It's definitely an island favorite! Plus, it looks like a white flower 🌺

Interestingly, I never got the chance to eat mangosteen in Hawaii. Perhaps wasn't in season.

First time I tried it was in the Philippines and after five years or more I craved it but it wasn't popular in my country and usually comes unripe but I found it somewhere and I'm eating it right now it tastes like HEAVEN even tho I don't know how heaven tastes lol but it is so good I recommend it :)

now i crave it.. the last time i had it was a month ago when my dad bought it from a supermarket. my older sister went to cambodia and ate it there and told us about it and when i tried it i fell in loveee ❤️

If you have to use a spoon to open it, it's a bit old. All of the fresh ones I had you could open with your thumb. They get harder on the outside pretty quick though.

I love mangosteen! Unfortunately they don't travel well, and by the time they reach my local supermarket, they've dried out on the outside and started to rot on the inside. But when I first had them in Laos, nice and fresh, they were amazing! Sort of like a custard-flavoured citrus fruit

There is a technique to open the mangosteen with your bare hands by clamping your two lower palms against the two sides of the fruit and it will open up

Difficult to describe but the aroma is like sweet freshly cut grass ought to taste like (but in reality grass tastes not nice at all). It is also very difficult to germinate, most seeds are polyembryonic which causes the seedlings to compete, trying to seperate damages them.

They're quite difficult to find because they need to be shipped extremely quickly, they start to break down almost immediately after they're cultivated. This is also why they aren't cheap. Check out Tropicalfruitbox.com

I found them at a sprouts farmers market in AZ 3 dollars but it was good! Had an aroma that was very different to me but it was really good

You don't really need spoon to open the mangosteen you just squish it andbthe fruit is open ( sorry if my grammar is bad english is my second language and I'm working on it to improve my grammar )

The seed is edible, just crunch straight through it flesh and all, it tastes very slightly nutty and is good for you.

You can buy it online or in Asian groceries. Where is your friend located? Of in U.K. an online company called, My Exotic fruit sells them. Also Indian groceries sometimes have them. Very good for cancer. Also soursop. Blessings to your friend. Take care. X

Here in Sweden we don’t really like this fruit but although it’s delicious but it’s not the one that you have it is so black that even if there’s ants in it we won’t see it but it’s delicious you should try it

If we're talking about properly grown mangosteen (fertilized and all), then they're very, really, amazingly sweet and only a little sour. But when you neglect them in a residential place where they don't get a lot of nutrients from nature, they will taste very sweet but also sour. Not very sour, you'll still love them, but I prefer the very very sweet ones.

Well what can one say, it all boils down to value and frugality of the individual, unfortunately i found it no better than a banana , if anything i find bananas the hardest fruit to beat in value and taste, luckily the mangosteen i had was free sample and i suppose like most overpriced luxury goods, people who can buy them ,rate them high for their own expensive tastes.
