All and much more will be revealed as I explore the Northern Line which runs underneath Liverpool city centre towards Hunts Cross, Southport, Ormskirk, and Headbolt Lane.
Stations visited in this video include Liverpool Central, Cressington, Liverpool South Parkway, Bootle New Strand, Waterloo, Ainsdale, Hillside, Southport, Orrell Park, Old Roan, Maghull North, Aughton Park, Ormskirk, Rice Lane, Kirkby, and Headbolt Lane.

Thank you for the Frank Hornby mention in connection with your stop at Maghull North Station. His first house in the town, 'The Hollies', is very close to Maghull Station on Station Rd,and it has an English Heritage Blue Plaque on it. His 2nd Maghull house 'Quarry Brook' is now a part of Maricourt High School. There's a Frank Hornby Heritage Centre within Maghull's Meadows Leisure Centre open 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 2pm on Saturdays. It's closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays. No entry fee and plenty of artifacts about Hornby and his world famous Binns Road Meccano Factory in Liverpool.

Thank you so much for this. It certainly encourages me to return to Maghull and leave the station to discover more about Frank Hornby and his life in the area. The Frank Hornby Heritage Centre has been added to my 'to do' list

Great video Chris. Cressington station was my favorite in this video. Never been to the UK but I love the historic buildings and water fountain from 1871, here in central Canada we just don't have many historic buildings around, let alone still in use!

Was one of my local stations - when the line reopened we switched from West Allerton - and always felt it was a rather special place.

@@alanmills6757 Agree that Cressington is special. I've passed through but can't recall ever getting off at West Allerton so that is an idea for a future video. I've alighted in the past at Liverpool South Parkway and Mossley Hill

This is amazing thank you. I spent my entire youth riding between Liverpool and Southport. I lived off the Blundellsands and Crosby station as I lived in Crosby. Fond memories.

Frank Hornby used Maghull Station, as the model for his railway stations, in his Dublo train range.

The northern line & all stations from the former Liverpool Exchange to Seaforth were 4 track & platforms stations. Even Sandhills. Waterloo was the terminus briefly before the Southport line was extended to Liverpool.
