If you work in areas where you could possibly breathe in particulates, vapors, or fibers, you probably already know that wearing respirators is crucial to your health and safety. You don’t want to breathe in harmful materials, so you wear your mask. But are you wearing the right mask?

Wow I just found H1N1 kit with mask, gloves and wipes, I don’t know when I bought obviously during H1N1, yeah cool it was in the junk closet that really needs to be sorted out... I know I should have bought four other ones that I bought for painting and something else but I don’t know where those ones are

Excellent video. I live Guatemala where the Government has ordered everyone to wear a face mask whenever they go outside. I suppose any type of face mask I wear will help protect other people from me to some extent, but If I want to make pretty sure I am protecting myself from other people, what type of face mask would I have to wear? When travel opens up again, and I travel by bus, I know many people on that bus will be wearing just a scarf or a bandanna, and I will not feel very safe unless I am wearing a mask that is designed to protect me from other people.

That's where they are recommending wearing an actual respirator (at least N95) vs wearing just a mask. The problem is definitely availability at the moment as most resources are tied to healthcare/ first responders.

thespiritbomb the filters that we’re talking about are all approved respirators tested by NIOSH whereas a surgical mask is way more gray on what % is filtered from brand to brand.

Hi.. my friend is selling me a box of n95 carbon valve 8712 masks . Do they protect against viruses too? Carbon

Bobby Perez thanks for watching. I’m not incredibly familiar with that brand but if it is labeled a NIOSH approved respirator then it should protect to the N95 level if properly fitted and worn. One thing to note would be that a style with the exhalation valve will protect the wearer but it will not protect the public from the wearer. Hope that helps.

Can P95 3M 8271 be used in hospitals or for protection from the Coronavirus? Are they as good as the 3M N95 8210? Thank you

Haris Muzaffar it will definitely protect the wearer in the same way as an 8210. P95 Vs N95 perform the same way in regards to filtering airborne particulates. Since an 8210 doesn’t have a exhalation valve it may be safer protecting the public from the wearer. Hopefully that answer makes sense.

Armando Sturzenegger even an N95 respirator is only telling you that is protecting you from 95% of small airborne particles. I think the thought is that this type of mask combined with all other preventative measures is just giving you the best shot to protect the wearer. Certainly the mask isn’t making you bullet proof. @@QuadCitySafetyInc ok i work on a amry base feeding the soldier and they are telling people that you can only ware certain kind of mask i had on a 3m 8511 N95 respiratory mask and they told me i couldn't ware that i did my history on this mask 95% safe what do i do cause I'm not sick and sure dont want to get sick we got cases here in lawton that are growing

Treva Lindley without knowing the reason why they are deeming it unsafe it’s hard to tell. The performance of that respirator definitely would preform at an N95 level. I’m not sure if there is another hazard that they are concerned with. Stay safe.
