Pot of Greed is a neg 3. Stop saying it’s a plus 1. Not only are you losing a card by activating it but it also makes you lose two cards from your deck, which brings you closer to decking out.
Well where do those two cards from your deck go? Into your hand, where they can be used; that means they’re a gain in card advantage, not a loss. You’d have to banish them (or in some cases, stick them in your graveyard) for them to count as a loss.
Oh my god it literally says it on the card: *When an opponent's monster declares an attack: Target the attacking monster; negate the attack, and if you do, inflict battle damage to your opponent equal to its ATK.*
I activated pot of greed at my locals and since the card didnt specify what it does I got confused and drew 2 cards from my opponents deck. He got mad.
Kevin Productions r/whoosh to you too lol... the joke of your comment was that you drew cards from his deck, the joke of mine was that that was completely fine, although i guess i didn’t make that very clear...
What does Pot of Greed do? Easy: When this card is activated, immediately after it resolves, pick up and look at the top 2 cards of you Deck, and then add them to your hand. (You do not show these cards to your opponent, and the deck is not shuffled afterwards.) This card is then placed in the GY. Those cards can be used this turn if they were in your hand all along before this card was activated.
You forgot these effects as well You can still conduct your Main phase, battle phase and main phase 2 after activating pot of greed After your main phase 2 ends in the same turn in which you activate pot of greed, it is now your opponents turn because your turn ends. If you have not normal summoned before activating pot of greed you can normal summon after the effect of this card resolves I think those are the only other effects their could be more
i know pot of greed became a meme because of the anime. but im surprised the same thing didnt happen with elemental hero bubbleman or the Emergency Provisions + Mirage of Nightmare combo judai did in like every episode in GX
GX, at least in the dub, was pretty much treated as a big joke by 4Kids. The original was played way more bombastically, plus it was more popular so its memes have more reach.
Pot of greed: All monsters you control gain 500 ATK. Once per turn, this card cannot be destroyed by card effects. While you control 2 or more face-up Attack Position monsters, your opponent cannot target monster(s) with the lowest ATK for an attack. When this card is activated: Destroy all Special Summoned monsters you control. You cannot Special Summon monsters from your Extra Deck. You can only activate "Pot of Greed" once per Duel.
You'll get them someday but I think volcanics desperately need some consistency boosting, cause normally you just summon rocket maybe have a blaze accelerator reload on the field burn 1500 and nuke the field, and that's nice and all but then generally you leave a 1900 beater in the field for it to be stomped over next turn. So yes, give more support.
For the duel links commercial, if you watch it can fully you can see him move cards to the graveyard, also at like 3 seconds in if you look at the grave yard you can see 2 monsters, and one spell, so he did tribute summon DM
Dzeeff made this video all so he could pre-empt the "not a pack opening channel" comments he'll get when those new packs come out. People will still make those comments.
Card says *Draw 2 cards* ... but from where?! Can someone explain me pls, from my GY, from my Xtra deck? or is it from my Banish are or my opponent GY or deck or *his hand* ??! Konami fix this and ill fix my life.
calm down genius, if i understand right do I need to make the pervi card face with my own face right, and then draw 2 cards of the pictures of my newly pervi pot face? Looks like a lot of work just for drowning myself
I'm not gonna lie half the reason i like your channel is due to your calm demeanor, especially compared to alot of channels that are "super hype yelling " (usually the click bait channels). Basically, you're awesome and i love the content
To actually clarify things a bit, the meme actually comes from the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime and the YGOTAS series (which explains why a lot of people who don't play the game like it.) In the anime, Pot of Greed was used A LOT, and every single time, the characters would explain what it does to their opponents. The Abridged Series popularized the joke and it became recognizable even if you had never touched the game.
I always thought that maybe the Dark Magician guy had used Tribute Burial. It uses 2 tributes from the graveyard instead of 2 on the field. Since the game was already on progress, maybe he used it before summoning Dark Magician. What I found funny is that this actually happened to me in Duel Links. I don't remember how I cleared my opponent's board (probably Widespread Ruin) but I also had an empty board and had a Dark Magician on my hand. On my turn, I drew into Tribute Burial. I used it and summoned Dark Magician w/o tributes from the field. I then attacked directly and I won. Oh, or maybe they were playing with special rules which actually happened in Duel Links where tributes were not needed.
The text on Pot of Greed says "Draw 2 cards." If Pot of Greed were to ever be unlimited, you would be allowed to run a maximum of 3 copies in your deck. That would mean if you played all your copies of Pot of Greed in one duel, you'd draw 6 cards in total through the card with the specific name "Pot of Greed." 6 can be described as 4 + 2, and combining those two numbers together without using any math would give you 42. At 1:35, dzeeff said "Mostly harmless," which is also the title of one of the books in Douglas Adams' "Hitchhiker's" series, where 4 people end up trying to figure out what the question, "What is the answer to life, the universe and everything?" really means and why the answer is 42. As such, Pot of Greed is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything, and the answer to Pot of Greed is 42.
Pot of Greed allows me to take my hand (the one attached to my arm, not my hand of cards), then place my forefinger and middle finger on top of the pile of cards in my Deck Zone, then brace my thumb against the edge of the pile. I then press down lightly with the first two of the aforementioned fingers and slide the topmost card, using my thumb to help separate it from the rest of the pile, without revealing it to my opponent, pick it up, and physically move it to my hand (of cards, not attached to my arm). Then I do it again.
Hey quick point here; in the trailer, the duelist doesn't specifically mention a particular side of the field. When I heard him say that line, it seemed pretty clear he was referring to the opponent not having monsters remaining on the field. But hey I spose you're technically correct
So what does pot of greed do? It's simple really. This card(pot of greed) can only be activated during your main phases 1 and 2. You can play pot of greed immediately by placing it face up in your spell and trap card zone or postpone its activation by placing it face down in your spell and trap card zone as long as it is not occupied, in which case, this face-down card can be played the same way in the same turn as it was in your hand by revealing this face-down card on your field face-up as long as this card is not destroyed by other card's effect. Upon the moment of pot of greed's activation unless it was negated by other card effect, the player that activated it is allowed to use the draw mechanic twice in a row which of course is the act of your pressing on the top your main deck with your fingers and gently swiping of the uppermost card of that deck and adding it to your personal hand without targeting or revealing said cards. The cards much like the main deck are face down unless convulsion of nature is in effect or one of the cards is parasite paracide. After the effect of pot of greed has stopped applying, the card is sent to the graveyard zone of the duelist that activated the pot of greed or banished due to effects of cards like macro cosmos. The drawn cards can be played the same way in the same turn if they were in the duelists hand the whole time and they follow the standard game rules of summoning and activating. If by the end of the turn of this card's activation the amount of the cards in the player's hand exceeds the limit of 6 cards then the player must discard said card(s) from his/her hand to his/her graveyard until he/she reaches the limit of 6 cards. Effects can be activated due to this card's activation and its effect cannot be negated by the effect of mystical space typhoon.
On the topic of card advantage, I still don’t understand why cards like Jar of Greed/Legacy of Yata-Garasu are seen as bad in Yu-Gi-Oh whereas in other card games like MtG or Hearthstone, they’d be seen as good as they essentially make your deck X cards less, which makes it more consistent. I suppose it has to do with them being Traps that take a turn to cantrip but that can’t be the only reason, right?
That is actually the only reason. Upstart goblin was played at 3 in every deck despite having a “worse” effect than Jar of Greed. Let’s say you go first and open with a hand with 2 jar of greed in it. You essentially now have only 3 cards with which to play the game, and you won’t be able to use any of the cards you drew off jar of greed until turn 3, because you generally can’t use in-hand cards on your opponent’s turn. Slightly thinning the deck isn’t worth going -1 per copy for 2 turns.
NinStarRune yugioh is faster than most other card games so having card advantage on your turn is better than getting cards on your opponent’s turn since it lets you get off your combos or gives you resources to stop your opponent’s
Activate this card by paying 0 life points, also after paying the activation cost of this card, gain 0 life points (This effect cannot be negated). If your opponent would negate the activation or effect of "Pot Of Greed", he or she would negate the following effect of "Pot Of Greed", and not the effect of "Pot Of Greed" that would gain 0 life points: If this effect or the activation of "Pot Of Greed" was not negated: Add the top card of your deck to your hand (The top card of your Main Deck, not your extra deck or your side deck (if you have one)). And if you have completed the former part of the effect of "Pot Of Greed": Add the top card of your deck to your hand (The top card of your Main Deck, not your extra deck or your side deck (if you have one)). (Any effect mentioned after "that would gain 0 life points" is part of the same effect.) Pendulum Effect: If a Pendulum Monster you control attacks, for that battle, it cannot be destroyed by battle, also you take no battle damage. At the end of the Damage Step, if a Pendulum Monster you control attacked: All monsters your opponent currently controls lose ATK equal to that attacking monster's ATK, until the end of this turn.
TO BE FAIR In duel links there is a skill, that let you pay 2k LP to “demote” a card by 3 levels called 3 star demotion AND it was abused with Dark Magician and Champions Vigilance (one of the few reasons that card was limited). So TECHNICALLY it was possible to normal summon Dark magician with no cards left on the field and attack for game in duel links. Now some more history on 3 star demotion for anyone that doesn’t play DL or didn’t play it at the beginning if you’re interested in that kinda stuff. It eventually got nerfed to costing 3k LP but it was STILL abused this time by ninjas which could use it to normal summon black dragon ninja (which had a quick effect banish a monster effect, at the beginning of duel links that’s pretty nuts) that could also be used to make multiple attacks in a turn, as well as red dragon ninja to bounce backrow. After that it was nerfed AGAIN this time it could only work when you lost 3k LP rather than let you pay it. But you could play it at full health if you were using it on the 3 gate guardian pieces (it was a skill designed to make summoning the pieces for gate guardian easier). Which it saw a tiny bit of experimentation in burn and stall decks that would attempt to sit on a single gate guardian piece until it could burn you to death or whatever. But it wasn’t that good. Just some history to add to the discussion as it related to duel links.
About that duel links bit: when you brought it up you said that the guy says, "With no monsters left on the field, I summon Dark Magician and attack for game". You then followed up with that the guy said "I have no monsters left on the field". He wasn't referring to himself not having any monsters but his opponent, as when you look at the overhead shot you see that his opponent only has one facedown card (which most likely is a spell or trap based on the orientation). He also did Tribute Summon DM because if you look into his GY during that same shot you can see 2 monster cards (1 of which is confirmed) at the top, which would suggest that they were sent there as tributes. Also before that shot you can see that he makes a left to right gester with his right hand which would suggest him moving cards off of the field. So he did properly summon the card, they just didn't make it clear enough to convey it.
Also, a quick sidenote about his GY: for anyone that might be saying it isn't his GY because it's below the deck, it is. It's not only the only zone with a lot of face up cards in it, but all the other players have their GY in a similar manner. Don't know why they did that, but it's kinda stupid.
Dummies guide to Pot of Greed: Pot of Greed is a normal spell card that allows you to take top 2 cards of your deck and place those cards into your hand, which allows you to be able to play those cards or activate their effects/ discard them to GY to activate other card effects ect. In order to accomplish activating Pot of Greed, you need to place that card in one of your unoccupied spell/trap card zones and explain what it does as complicated as possible. I hope it helps.
*@dzeeff* , in Duel Links you CAN normal summon Dark Magician while you have an empty field! As the Paradox Brothers have this skill called "Three-Star Demotion", that when you are at 1000 LP, (or below), you can "demote" the levels of all monsters in your hand by 3 levels (until the end of the battle phase), once per duel. And as such; the level 7 card Dark Magician is a free normal summon as a level 4 monster! HAH! SCIENCE! (or something) xD
The Pot of Greed meme was actually born from Yu-Gi-Oh The Abridged Series where Yami asks Dark Magician Girl what Pot of Greed does because "no one knows what it does". That joke runs from battle city, until the current episode.
Pot of Greed : draw two card to me it sounds like it is possible to draw two cards from your opponent deck me: No i'm gonna loose opponent: ha ha, you are finished {now say your last words} me: its time to get my game on i activate pot of greed and it lets me draw two card [but from where] 😂your deck
My personal favorite meme is Dolphin for game The idea of using NS aqua dolphin to deal a small amount of burn damage and then win through the new time rules.
Quick question here. Pot Of Greed says 'Draw 2 Cards'. Does that mean that you could, technically, draw 2 cards from any person's deck? To put it another way, could I draw 2 cards from my opponent's deck with Pot Of Greed's effect? Could I draw 1 card from my deck and 1 from my opponent's deck? Or, perhaps, could I pull out two sheets of paper and have myself literally draw a card with the effect text 'Win the duel', and have my opponent draw their own card on the paper. Then, whoever draws the card first wins. Going down further, do I draw the cards or does my opponent draw the cards? Pot Of Greed is so confusing.
I remember back in the day of middle school Yu-Gi-Oh I was the only kid who still had pot of greed in his deck. Virtually nobody knew it did that I had to work every time I used it! Jokes Aside not a meme killing Channel
It allows me to take two cards directly from the top of my own deck and add both of them directly to my own hand without shuffling the deck or discarding any cards from my hand to the graveyard. Directly after activation, Pot of Greed is sent to the graveyard where it cannot be returned to the hand, field, or deck, unless by a card effect that allows such a card to be returned to the hand, field, or deck.
In the Duel Links commercial he says "with no monsters left I summon Dark Magician" but then he says he declares a DIRECT ATTACK. I always assumed when he said "with no monsters left on the field" he was talking about the opponent not having any monsters, hence him saying he declares DIRECT attack.
I imagine people are just going to leave a stupid explaination, leave a dislike and leave without watching. That being said, i got pizza rolls, none of you can have any. But dzeeff can have some if he wants
This whole entire comment section is going to be cancer bud. Im just getting a head start. Im 60% sure doug is gonna take the comments of people who didnt watch the video, make a video called "commentators don't understand memes" and then proceed to roast them
Dzeef next month: Make sure you guys go hit the link in the description and subscribe to Dzeef's pack opening channel. I'll see you later though, thanks so much for watching, goodbye.
"I summon pot of greed to draw three additional cards from my deck! Then, I summon pot of greed to draw three additional cards from my deck! Then I play magic force. This allows me to play pot of greed once again which allows me to draw three additional cards from my deck!"
What if there was a card that went: "Draw 2 cards. If you do not win the duel in this turn, during the End Phase, you lose the duel." Would people play it? If not, what number of cards would you have to draw off this card to make people play it? I think this is an interesting discussion that can demonstrate exactly how important card advantage is in Yu-gi-oh.
I don't think normal decks would play a card like that. Too much of a gamble, but it would be perfect for a jank deck like dimension fusion turbo or RML otk
I always though he used the spell cardTribute Burial. It lets you use tributes from the graveyard instead of the field by banishing them. The duel was in progress so probably he used that card.
So I was dueling some guy who had a nearly invincible board, with Thanos, Shrek, Saitama, Popeye, and Kirby at once, and Exodia in his hand for backup. Thanos banished half of my deck, half of my graveyard, and half of my on field cards. Shrek bounces any cards back to the hand. Saitama can destroy any monster in battle no matter what and is unaffected by battle traps. Popeye can activate his quick effect to banish any monster he battles and inflict direct LP damage. And Kirby will not leave the field under any cirucumstances once his cake counter has been destroyed. Things were looking bleak. And then I played pot of greed, not only did I win the duel, but I banished my opponent to the shadow realm. And that is why pot of greed is banned and will forever remain banned.
The player in duel links trailer is saying that his opponent no longer has any monsters on the field so he summons dark magician and declares a direct attack, how he summons dark magician is unclear but he does non the less
The debate about whether or not the 10 cards mattering has a single simple answer: It depends on the deck. If you dont need some cards to be on your deck, play 3 of. If your deck meets the criteria before, but has a lot of draw power already play 2 because you'll see it but you dont want to brick your hand. If your deck needs a lot of cards to be in your deck, aka follow ups and bricks, dont play desires.
Like Brickstar/Pendulum, Sky Striker/True Draco, and thunder rather play sekka's light instead of pot of desires even with that heavy restriction because they need their bricks and follow ups (also, it helps unbrick your hand)
"To get a card where you can just negate a Spell or Trap card, you have to give up a lot, maybe like Solemn Judgement where you pay halve your life points or Dark Bribe where you give your opponent a free draw..." Or Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss where you just exist, or Orcustrated Climax where you just ex- oh wait...
Honestly i wish pot of greed was limited with an errata were its the rank-up-magic the seventh one where you can only activate it if you draw it in your draw phase and then reveal it to activate, but make it after it resolves its banished facedown and that eff cant be negated
I hate the duel links dark magician meme. Everyone gets it wrong. The man says "with no monsters left on the field". He doesn't state which side of the field, so it's safe to assume he means the opponent's field. Yes, he should have been more specific to avoid this outcome, but do you really expect people to be so pedantic as to say "since you have no monsters left on your field, I shall now tribute my two monsters in order to summon the Dark Magician and attack you directly!". No. Nobody does that outside of role-players. Also, watch the bloody trailer. Right before he says his first line, you can quite clearly see his arm move to pick up cards and put them into the graveyard. He does it in such an animated way that it's baffling how nobody notices it. Go through it frame-by-frame. You'll notice as soon as they cut to the top-down shot, his hand is over the graveyard. Why is that one phrase the thing that people meme? The rest of the trailer is weird and cringe-inducing that any point of it could be meme'd. The one meme to come out of that trailer, ironically enough, is the community's lack of perception. Sorry for getting so upset about this, but I've seen and heard this meme so often, and it infuriates me so much.
Regarding the PoG meme, I know you don't watch Little Kuriboh but he did a Yugioh abridged episode in which he constantly asked what Pot of Greed does. That's also part of why it's such a popular meme. Also, not a meme explanation channel.
Pot of greed: when any of your monsters in your field destroys by battle an opponent's monster in defense position, while in their respective field, the difference withing your monster's attack and your oponent's monster's defense is sustracted from your oponent's life points as damage.
Mst can stop the effects of certain cards from resolving. For example, the effect of rage with eyes of blue can technically be stopped with mst despite rage being a quick-play spell card. Here's a video explaining this interaction: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sQzEL-y8_zc.html
