Someone may have scoliosis if there are physical inconsistencies in the spine. These can include one shoulder or hip being higher or sticking out, or the head not being centered on the body. Additionally, when bending forward, the sides of the back may appear different in height.
Lower back (lumbar) pain is a common complaint among adult and adolescent scoliosis patients, even those with mild cases. The pain can be severe and have a significant impact on the quality of life.
Older adults with scoliosis often suffer from more severe degenerative disc disease.
· People with scoliosis may experience hip pain.
Unequal hip heights can cause issues for those standing or walking for long periods. This is more noticeable than the spinal curvature associated with scoliosis. This can lead to hip pain and distress.
· Sciatic nerve pain is a type of pain caused by misalignment of the spine and early degenerative joint disease (arthritis). This can result in leg pain. These two conditions cause a narrowing of the joints of the spine that the nerves pass through. This narrowing is referred to as spinal stenosis
