We need to develop technology that identifies original and creative music and matches that music with individuals. The current system of record labels is solely focused on manufacturing generic pop music. Spotify and Deezer have the technology but it still doesn't cover unsigned creators. Some of the best music is unsigned simply because it doesn't fit the format record labels demand. For example all music has to be 3 minutes. Why does it, it wasn't in the past and we don't consume music through radio these days anyway.

Well, I mostly agree with your points. But not all music is 3 minutes long. You just have to look (heh, ironic because you have to listen) beyond the top 100, or the music you hear on your radio.

Actually a majority of the artists on spotify are unsigned. We are just not on the mixes that spotify creates as often as the big artists. Plus, the algorithm learns what you like and shows you more of that, which means that your only seeing what you already are listening too.

Artists aim for 3-4 minutes for commercially friendly music because the average person has a short attention span. Most commercially friendly songs are “catchy” because that’s how they’re memorable. Artists often write music that is understandable by ALL which means it has to be simple enough for the

I believe the future of music will be found in artists that use the latest music technology and recording technology, as has been the case for the past 70+ years. Tech leaps lead to new music and new sounds. What will that sound like specifically? Well, I believe there will be a movement for really visceral and cinematic music, where the mental picture it creates is overwhelming. We have the technology to make very precise sounds, dial in the perfect ambience, mix everything perfectly to create a final product that, when you put headphones on and close your eyes, will make you feel like you’re in a totally different space. When we can put the listener in the middle of the perfect 3D space AND deliver very emotionally powerful music, there will be nothing like it. “That already exists”. Kind of. But we like to squash everything with a limiter and make it very 2D. There’s very little depth in today’s music. I’m looking forward to new mixing software and processing that will create HDR sound, which will literally make the listener feel as though they’re inside the music instead of a listener of it.

I think when this metaverse thing reaches its inevitable peak and people are wearing smart glasses and maybe even smart contacts visual aids will be provided. Mostly as augmented reality. Just seeing your regular surroundings but maybe with higher contrast and dynamic lightning. The possibilities are endless but I think music will be expected to be accompanied by AR effects that add to to experience.

Great speech. Mic quality is a little but I enjoyed this it makes me think about the ways music change and why alot of music is so narrowed down alot of the times.
