I was Blessed with being able to fish the Flaming Gorge. My Wife was from Rock Springs. It was a Blast. I just Trout fished along the Shoreline, and Killed them on Shad Raps, Cordell.. walley divers, and Berkeley Flicker shads, on my 6'6" Shakespeare Ugly Stick, and Shimano Sedona Reels, Which I have never had Issues with. You learned the Lesson of over Spending, on High End Stuff , that is reall not necessary.
I like using the same rod for multiple things too. I got some ugly stick Striper rods for trolling. They are strong enough for lake trout and catfish, as well as sensitive enough for salmon and walleye.
I went out to strawberry reservoir today. Hooked into 2 kokanee jigging. Lost them at the boat. I have learned alot from your channel. Thank you for posting your videos.
Elijah, you are the second subscriber in as many days who have tried jigging on Strawberry. There is no reason you can't learn to jig'em up. Thanks for the comment!
@@doafish I might try the flaming gorge this weekend dependingon the weather. . Today was the first time using kokanee fire corn on a kokanator. It worked really well. The cutthroat trout and rainbows liked it too. I didn't find any large schools of kokanee mostly 2-3 fish in small groups. I'm hoping to get on top of a big school someday. Would sheep creek likely hold some fish this time of year? Or do they move in a bit later in early Aug.
@@fish2much51 Sheep Creek is good most of the time. Try the Hideout area if you make it out here. I will be gone most of August on family issues. Good Luck!
What do you mean by not engaging the drag? I run nano fill on my reels without backing and do not get what you are referring to. Your statement has me confused and wondering what you were trying to relay to the public.
Regardless of what you thought I said, I was speaking about the Quantum reels (spinning) that I use. If I put NanoFil directly on an empty spool, the drag will not always work. I struggled with this for several years while fishing bass tournaments. In the morning, I had to test all of my spinning reels to make sure the drag would engage. I presented this problem to a good friend and repair specialist who told me that "some" quantum reels are not able to handle any braid, not just NanoFil without a little backing on the reel BEFORE spooling on the NanoFil (or any other braid. That is NOT the case with all spinning reels.
@@doafish What you are describing still does not make any sense. I believe that the problem that you were having was the line on the reel was slipping around your spool not allowing your drag to operate. This it true with all spinning reels if they are not braid ready meaning if there is not something on the spool keeping your braid from slipping around you spool this will happen under a tight drag. The quick fix is either a short section of mono first or a little electrical tape wrapped around the spool before spooling on the nano fill or any other braid. If this was not the problem than the reel you were using was just broken. Putting on 50 yards first before your nano fill is called backing because your spool was too large for the filler spool of line to fill up your reel completely.
@@matthewlidrich2030 Well, I can always learn something new and I appreciate all comments on my channel. However, none of the reels were broken (I own 20 of them) and yes, my fix included a little bit of mono before the NanoFil, just as you suggested. After 200+ bass tournaments as a professional over 25 years, and NEVER having this problem until I was sponsored by Quantum through B.A.S.S., and made yearly purchases of 10 reels in the $150 to $200 dollar retail range, that I ran into trouble. No, i am not a "reel expert" nor do I profess to be. People ask me what I use, I tell them, and then try to give them tips about how to get the best out of the reels they use. Regardless, my "fix" works every time and I have NEVER had another issue. Yes, I understand what "backing" is and perhaps I don't need 50 yards to do the trick. However, because NanoFil is relatively expensive line, perhaps anglers would enjoy being able to spool two reels instead of one with a standard size NanoFil depending on their spool size.. I don't know why you are hung up on this? I suggest you speak with Robert Maddox of Henderson, NV if you want to discuss the anatomy of a spinning reel.
@@doafish I just want you to know that I am not attempting to talk down to you. I am glad that we are able to have and open conversations without putting down one another. If we are sharing our experience I have been spooling up reels for over 40 years.
Jed, Yes, that is exactly what I do. I always tell my audience that it takes me up to 1.5 hours if I am fishing new areas to locate schools of kokanees. Then, I even break it down further and look for schools where the kokanee have separated from the tight school and I can see individual kokanees in and around the school ... Then, I know I can catch them.
Thanks! I will do that within the month. Though I absolutely favor jigging for koknaee, one of my best friends eats, sleeps, and actively trolls for kokes. He and I have planned to make a video highlighting the pros and cons of both. Thanks for the suggestions!
@@patrickv3413 Yes, i believe you can purchase a reciprocal stamp allowing you to fish the Utah side of the Gorge. I purchase a nonresident Wyoming fishing license instead of purchasing just the reciprocal from Wyoming. I hope that answers your question.
I give up on the Gorge hahaha. I spent a whole weekend in my pontoon and landed 2 fish. No Lakers, no bigger bows, no koks... I can go any other lake and absolutely hammer the fish. The Gorge always gets me haha.
Jeremy, You need a fisherman's blessing. It is not spiritual but rather utilitarian. Next time you come out, just send me a text 801-358-5583 and I will make sure you come away with a better experience.
