He does kind of answer that question in Frontiers. Saying that Sonic overcame impossible odds over and over, and that he's relieved to have someone so reliable around, to the point where he can trust his life to him.
That’s because tails is basically the complement. They ask tails what he likes about sonic, he’s either gonna say everything, or have a very long speech about what he likes about him, which is basically everything
Tails has been complimenting Sonic for the last few takeovers and was ready to throw hands with Shadow for daring to point out Sonic is not as strong as Knuckles. The kit is a walking bundle of Sonic compliments, he's had his turn and then some.

and before you say "it's just a hammer" remember that i'm pretty sure it also grows heavier overtime and was last weighed at about the same weight of a car stop and think about that Amy can lift the weight of *a car* and swing it like a weapon
I like how Knuckles struggles to say Sonic is nice, Eggman said he's at least somewhat consistent. And Shadow straight up said "You're the best pain in the a$$ I've had". Be like Shadow. Value your rivals 🤣🤣🤣
I've always liked the sort of Eggman we see in Frontiers, who respects Sonic as a rival. If you're an egomaniac and someone repeatedly matches/beats you, the ONLY reasonable conclusion to is that they must be as equally impressive as you are. You can still despise them, but you can't deny their greatness without putting your own capabilities into question.
Yeah I agree that not everyone gets along with onr another, but what would be the point of constantly despising someone? I just feel we all could have better things to do rather than dwell on the negative. Like for example chill out with some hot coco and donughts, or have a relaxing time eating chilli dogs, maybe reading a favourite book or watching a film. Eggman may not like sonic, but for a guy who tries to dominate the world all the time, I guess it's expected.

It is kinda strange but mostly a lot of fans say that she changed over the years and is less obsessed with Sonic. To me, Modern Amy is like Boom Amy less crazy for Sonic and more shy and nervous admitting she has a thing for Sonic. Overall, I think it's a good thing

This, Sonic Frontiers, and that new Tailstube have me thinking that they’re taking Amy in a direction where she’s realized that her feelings for Sonic aren’t reciprocated and likely never will be, so she’s making a concerted effort to move on, work on herself more, and just enjoy being friends with Sonic instead of constantly chasing him down and harassing him. If that is what’s going on, got to say, I’m here for it.
It's not even that the love isn't reciprocated, it's that Sonic really isn't the type of person to be in a romantic relationship, at least not the way Amy would want it. The love between them is reciprocal, it's just that Sonic's way of showing love is not showing it so much. Well, in Sonic Prime, Sonic seems to have much stronger feelings for Amy, but the fact that Sonic is more childish and Amy is more mature in this series doesn't really help. At the time I'm writing this, Season 3 hasn't come out yet, but I wonder what the Amys versions thing will be like.
I wouldn’t say he doesn’t hold any feelings towards her, romance just doesn’t really have a place in Sonic’s life rn since he’s always on the move and taking out the next big threat (and they’re both still teenagers) but Boom/Prime/frontiers still heavily hint at there being something, which is probably due to Amy mellowing out and the writing being nicer to her after the 2010s. Although I doubt Sega is gonna commit to them being officially and like all other ships will keep nothing finalized (which is the safest option anyway).
As a long time Sonic fan it’s insane to see how far Amy’s characterization has come. If this were made during the “Sonic Adventure” era Amy would have launched into a gushy rant about how amazing Sonic is- and he would have been off-put and it would have been weird. But now, she’s more like “Admiration that could turn to love” and it just makes for a better dynamic.
For real. Back in those days and for most of the 2000's, Amy would have said she loves Sonic without a second thought. In fact, she would have said it so much that it would become annoying. Her being embarrassed at saying that is representative of a HUGE shift in her character in the modern games.
Ngl I kind of miss her 2000's personality. It was one-dimensional but it was charming and straight forward. I think a lot of the dialogue from her new tsundere personality is more cringe than the gushy stuff she said back in the day. That being said, this exchange was great.
If we try to be logical about Amy's behaviors towards Sonic, I think that says that Amy has gone from a "passionate crush" she has get in Sonic CD to a true "love feeling" now. Seeing how Sonic was reliable, how chasing him didn't give her anything, how following him has made her stronger, etc, and how much he is willing to stay around her when she just acts normally. There is a lot of inconsistency about Amy in general, Heroes turned her into a creepy mad women even if it was for a joke, but overall, that's for the best. Even if the whole universe will be forever awkward, at least now it seems they are going somewhere and try to write characters and not just clichés.
It feels unnatural to me that they basically erased her crush in recent years. Like she would just stop asking him out after decades of being in love with him? I don’t like it. The moments with her chasing him and flirting with him were cute and funny.

@@themontyshow3532 I’d say Tails is on par with her in terms of admiration levels, it’s just that Tails sees him as the big brother he never had while Amy sees him as the ideal match for her.
The funny part about Amy being written like this now when _all_ her previous characterization exists means that not only did she mature and decide that trying to force herself on Sonic wasn't a good foundation for a relationship, but she also probably looks back and cringes and gets flustered and _really_ wishes her friends wouldn't bring it up. A truly relatable every-girl.

This man: Escaped a black hole in sonic forces LITERALLY BATTLED A GIANT MACHINE IN SPACE in sonic 3 & knuckles(possibly twice as the battle in launch base act 2) He breathes in space what but not underwater- This man is just, amazing. And to think he was just a child, no way a young hedgehog (not going with canon age here) could battle a giant robot in space and live, at least if it wasnt for the chaos emeralds he wouldn't. Over the years, he did some amazing stuff, sure he had 13 years of bad games(from what I hear) but how amazing he is, I honestly dont care about the bad games. “You’re the best thorn in my side I could ask for” is a big compliment coming from Shadow. It means that although Sonic often annoys him, Shadow still thinks highly of him and appreciates having him for a rival.
Amy has matured in recent games, as she doesn’t act like a simp towards Sonic and saying that he’ll marry her like she did in earlier games and that makes Sonic more comfortable being around her, thus improving their relationship.

Amy being self conscious about saying she "loves" Sonic feels so weird when stalking Sonic and incessantly saying that she loves him were her only personality traits during the 2000's.
They were not! Also, everyone keeps saying "stalking", but Sonic considered Amy a friend even then! As for Amy's self consciousness, obviously she's embarrassed by the infamy she gained for it.
If Amy was just a stalker, Sonic wouldn’t care so much about saving her every time she’s in danger. It was clear he liked her, he just wasn’t comfortable with all the marriage proposals.

Why didn’t Tails give an answer? Being Sonic’s wingman and his first brother in arms I thought Tails would at least thank Sonic for taking out the bullies that harassed Tails for his twin tails.
Well as someone has already mentioned in another comment, Tails himself is a walking compliment towards Sonic. In the last few takeovers, he has defended *&* complimented Sonic several times. Plus, he most probably would've said something very similar to Amy, but longer. Like, he'd mention basically everything good about him, which is... a pretty long list, in my personal opinion. Besides, we've technically already gotten an answer in Frontiers, when Tails mentioned that Sonic is so reliable that he'd trust him with his life! I honestly love moments like those between them
Sonic is also a big fan of Link. One of the MOST popular Nintendo Characters. And decided to copy his games. So Sonic is also Link's Sega counterpart. And Sonic somehow went to Hyrule and Link gave him a Green Tunic. Which Sonic proudly wears to honor him. Which made me like him more than I used to.
I like how everyone thinks just because Amy's having a hard time to find a complement means she's "not as crazy" over Sonic or somehow her feelings for him are toned down. That's not what she was saying at all. She was suggesting there was so many things to like that it's hard to pin down on just one. I get this fandom hates Amy's infatuation with Sonic but come on. This is just grasping desperately for straws. Plus lets not ignore the fact that Tails didn't say anything good about Sonic at all. Now THAT is a drastic character change if nothing else.

There is its own level In maturity of being able to express that feeling in a healthy way instead of hiding it altogether, no? Love can be subtle (sonic x ep 9) but is still there and expressed. All in all I like this though.

Amy is learning from past mistakes, she realized and accepted that refusing to give Sonic personal space was what drove him away. Now that she’s calmed down and allowed her kindness and compassion for others to be more prominent, Sonic is much more comfortable being around her.

It's one of the best fan-made Sonic projects out there, including vocal performances by official Sonic VAs (both former and current), like Ryan Drummond, Mike Pollock, Lisa Ortiz, and Pete Capella (each reprising their original roles), and original music featuring Ted Poley (the singer from Escape from the City). She also voiced Tails in this drama, and has also worked with Johnny Gioelli (lead singer for Crush 40) on a separate song, along with releasing some pretty decent acoustic covers of some Sonic themes. I haven't actually seen this Sonic Twitter takeover yet, but this was nice. Amy's comments towards Sonic was definitely nice, especially compared to the obsessive clingy version of this character I recall seeing in the earlier media. Also, Shadow's comment to Sonic is actually one of the best rivalry compliments I've ever heard.
