I just randomly found your channel and it's great!! I love learning more about animals! The format is pretty good too. I have some questions though: you mentioned males who do not have cheek pads to be able to just CHOOSE to not have them. Do they really just consciously choose? Or is it moreso the appearance of cheek pads depends on some specific environment cues that provokes a reaction in males (such as higher testerone for example), that they can then expose themselves to, triggering the appearance of cheek pads? You also mentioned that these males who do not have cheek pads mate with females without their consent, is this a recurrent thing or is this a behavior observed in captivity? I do know these types of agressive behaviors can happen in the wild, but it's always important to make sure this is not a CAPTIVE behavior which is not a reflection of a specie's natural behavior. Great video though, and I hope you someday make such indepth video about gorillas for I love them very much! Wish you the best for the future!

Welcome to my channel, glad you like it About the flange, we don't really know the mechanism yet, but the theory is that it's a hormonal thing (most likely testosterone as you said). External pressure might suppress hormones, just like how stress can cause hormonal imbalance in humans. That pressure being the presence of a dominant male. About the mating behaviour, it was observed in the wild in several sites. Of course we haven't do the research on each population sites known, but since the majority shows the same kind of behaviour, for now we assume so. This topic was also revisited in a research published last year and that research also supports this conclusion

Orangs lived from indian soils to the most pacific islands in the last century. In Thailand, they are considered to be human (not by law or science), that is why they call them people since hundreds of years, maybe thousands. Earth aeons of evolution. Skin colors evolved from Pleistozaen to Jura, changing light spectrums. Hair evolved much later to todays point. Because of light (natural selection) and temperature changes (after tools, we found medicine and might have cultivated our bodys with mineralic and plantic aminos and other acids).

Can you do video of what is difference between Zoologist and Zoolophilist? I keep getting the two confused.
@OutofPlaceZoologist
@OutofPlaceZoologist 3 месяца назад
I don't think it needs to be made into a video since i could just answer it in one paragraph, so let me just answer it. Zoologist is a qualification / profession, zoophilist is a fondness. Liking and caring about animal doesn't mean you are experienced in the study of animal. Just like enjoying cooking doesn't make you a chef, or enjoying playing games doesn't make you a professional gamer.
@YellowPenis

@@OutofPlaceZoologist Thanks! I like animals a lot, and I said that the age of consent for cats should be once the cat is six moths old and someone said that makes me a zoologist but another person said it makes me a zoophilist. Which one do you think it makes me?
@OutofPlaceZoologist
@OutofPlaceZoologist 3 месяца назад
@@YellowPenis For me personally, it's not about your opinion. It's about you yourself, your experience. If you studied zoology at university levels or received a proper training in one, then you are a zoologist. If not, then you are a zoophilist, as long as you think so. But honestly, i would never call you a zoophilist in this case. I would just call you as, uh.... you, i guess. I assume you have that opinion because you know cats are usually sexually mature at six months old. You can obtain that information without being a zoologist or zoophilist, so i wouldn't label you based on that opinion. That being said, age of consent is a peculiar topic. I don't think any actual zoologist would dictate an age of consent for animals that are not human.

You have to take the audio track and throw it in the bin, or better, flush it down the toilet where such brown stuff should go, before you start again and make a new one. Before you start again though: _TURN THE MICROPHONE INPUT GAIN DOWN UNTIL IT IS NOT IN THE RED WHEN YOU SPEAK INTO IT_

On the contrary, i know the audio is bad. That's why i said "i know right". It's just funny to me how furious you are. You might even be angrier when you hear how bad the microphone i'm currently using is. I always appreciate any suggestion so i could be better, but you don't even give any suggestion besides to turn the input gain down until it's not in the red. Funny thing is, it's not even in the red, so i literally couldn't take any suggestion from you
@abody499
@abody499 3 месяца назад
@@OutofPlaceZoologist By definition, when the audio is clipping, it's in the red. Whether you have an actual meter in the chain that shows to what extent it is clipping, or not, is not the issue. The issue is that between the microphone and the recording, the audio has too much gain. There can be several reasons for that, but that's the issue. Clearly you don't "always appreciate any suggestion". Clearly it's you who has been infuriated by my criticism. I know I certainly won't even be aware of whatever you choose to do in future, because I've already selected "don't recommend channel". I just won't listen to badly engineered sound. It's that simple.

You say chimps are smarter at group violence and orangutans are smarter at analysing. I want to know the default charachter of humans from observing the behaviors of small isolated human groups that depend entirely on a unadultered natural habitat. 🦧
@OutofPlaceZoologist
@OutofPlaceZoologist 3 месяца назад
While i understand your curiosity, I don't think that will pass the ethical clearance in any way. If i have to guess, human might behave more like a chimp. There was a research and theory that basically said human kinda sucks compared to other great apes, but one thing that human excel in is communicating and understanding each other, which is why we are better at creating legacy.

@@OutofPlaceZoologist what research and what do you mean kinda suck
@OutofPlaceZoologist
@OutofPlaceZoologist 3 месяца назад
I can't recall the specific research / publication since it's like almost 20 years ago by now. Basically it says we traded off our short-term memory and stuffs so that we are able to develop better communication skills. I believe other large creators had covered this topic years ago, like Vsauce for example. By "kinda suck" i mean humans don't really excel at anything that can be measured. Relatively bad reaction, relatively slow movement, relatively weak, etc, but that's just how it is since we are a jack-of-all trade animal. Intelligence is hard to be measured and compared so zoologist usually don't just blatantly say humans are more intelligent
@bozomori2287
@bozomori2287 3 месяца назад
@@OutofPlaceZoologist I understand, thanks. I remember I watched a video explaining how physically we excel at endurance walking because of our relatively big glutes not to mention our upright stance and long legs and foreward arched feet. I also watched a video before yesterday explaining how language is the 4th and most advanced level found in lifeforms. The first level being about following positive outside sensory queues, the second is about trial and error, the third is by imagination, the 4th is by communication. I also remember watching a video explaining that something fundamental yet unexplainable about humans does not deny us from living in big groups, even though Vsauce explained how the average person can sustain only 140 active relationships, meanwhile chimpanzees are fundamentally incapable of living in groups bigger than 30 members even if the resources are abundant. In groups above 15 members it has been observed that a divide always happened for different reasons. And chimp groups are very hostile to other chimp groups. I also read an article yesterday explaining that several experiments showed we are fundamentally selfless and choose the actions that benefit the human group when we dont have the timento reflect and maximize the personal benefit. So to recap, I can see we walk everywhere in groups we name things along the way we welcome more members willing to communicate And like many other creatures we are capable of learning from trial and error and imagination, but since we develope spoken and written language and media we can learn and lie more.
