Absolutely loved it. Reminds me of how I started fishing and where I too also end up going back to. Fishing on big lakes is always fun but fishing tiny streams rivers and even canals can give an equal buzz if not bigger when you catch on them when you don’t expect to. Absolutely amazing video as always Carl.

I must admit that this type of 'off the beaten' track style angling is my favourite. Often free or low cost, no rules and very few other anglers about! You captured the essence very well!

I used to have a tiny bridge pool and stream coming off it and I caught pike to 12lbs, perch to 3.5lbs, roach to 1.5lbs and chub to 4lbs. No matter where I fished in the world, I always returned everyso often to this little hidd4en gem to refresh my inner child ! I also used to love catching Gudgeon, a fish long forgotten, on the norfolk broads ! Fantastic on a really lite outfit ! With the onset of big venues and the desire to catch the biggest, the smaller waters of yesteryear have been forgotten.......

The techniques we used on similarly small streams is to go and create some swims a few days before because, on the day you will spook everything. Decent sized fish were usually perch or chub...fun, as you said.

Hey Carl! Today I went fishing on the Great River Ouse with my Dad, I tried dropshotting with my small spinning rod, and it worked! Pulled out 3 decent Perch, and somehow a good Gudgeon. My Dad caught a Chub and 3 Roach, one Roach being 1lb 3oz, being the biggest we've caught! Great video as well!

I'm pretty sure that stream would have been a paradise to fish in as recently as the 1980s. Shockingly overgrown with no flow and, let's be honest, virtually unfishable for long stretches. Yes it's hard, as technically no one can own the actual river, just the land to the edge of it. If your mate has land backing onto it, then it technically you could fish it as the land is owned by him. Wonder if this helps: www.land-search-online.co.uk/information/fishing-rights-on-rivers/

I regularly fish like this on tiny streams and rivers often in the middle of nowhere with nothing more then a rucksack net and small lures on an ultralight setup.... I've had the most fun this summer chasing chub all over the South East of the country and would strongly recommend anyone and everyone to do the same!

Chub and barbel have always eluded me! Even when I fish on flowing rivers I still struggle! Seemingly I’m always fishing on the wrong sort of rivers!😂

i caUght my biggest german brown trout in a creek just like the one you fished. Those little slivers of water can be a gold mine.

Criticising your brother is not the way to keep me on this channel. Even though i have been watching for years.

Hahahahahahahahaha, well Carl, you've got +1 to your "girls" count, at least. I watch both your channel and Alex's and find them both delightful. To be honest I found your channel through Alex's, and I found Alex's only a day or two before through youtube recommendations about growing plants. I gave it a try because I saw glimpses of your personality in his bee keeping videos, so I figured your videos wouldn't just be dry information like I would have expected from fishing videos (and I had a question burning in my mind). Before your channel I knew nothing about fishing other than the stereotypes about how incredibly boring it was and how old men were the only ones who liked it. I kept asking myself "If that's really true, then why do people do it? What do people actually see in fishing?" That said, I think if more ladies gave your channel a chance, they might find they enjoy it as well. Your personality definitely gives these videos a shine.

Ha! My Dad used to tap the bottom of empty wine bottles out to make fish traps - the bottles with the inverted cone shape. He'd tap out the tip of the cone to make the same type of trap as bro here's done Brilliant alternative version here. I'm seventy by the way.

I learned to fish in a tiny stream in Norfolk with my dad. The place was alive with Rudd and a few tench. I’ve never fished anywhere since that feels the same. These wild venues are always special. You literally have no idea what you might catch. Nothing beats it. Great video Carl you took me back to my childhood for a few minutes.

I can resonate with that ar kid, every time that float goes under, or.tip goes round it just adds that extra bit of adrenaline, cos ya ain't got a clue if it's a gudgeon or a 4lbs chub, or even if a pike nails that said gudgeon on the way in,!! Never leaves ya mate in it!!???

That was a "proper fishing" Video in the John Wilson style with no sleeping in a Bed-chair involved, Thank You. Though Omi's Naturalist input was definitely missed, even if she did make a Guest Appearance or two!
