Thanks for the tour of your boxes and flies, glad I’m not the only one who has a messy box was thinking I was all alone in the world

Lol, mine go through phases of messiness for sure. When they get bad enough I have to reorganize them. And, I will go through them in the colder months and make sure I am set for spring.

Thank you for doing this video! I've never fished for Carp, but I'm 100% going to do it...speaking of which how do they respond/act in the winter? I went fishing on the lower provo, canyon section just below the dam....and it was 5 hours of exactly jack crap! really frustrating to go fishing and not even see a fish!

They slow way down in the winter. If you have a warm spring then you can still do well, but otherwise they are pretty much done until spring. I wish I had better news, but they are more of a warm water fish.

In France in lot of places where we could find carp, people who walk around give bread for f.....g ducks, and it's a reason for having a bread fly when I'm go to fishing carps. And its the same for brown troutor many species..... for me ever a bread fly in my box 😅

Carp are fast learners and will switch to bread if it is available. There are a few places near me like that too, but most places the carp are completely wild and will only eat something more naturally occurring in their environment.

Awesome video What size hooks do you use? Thanks
@carponthefly8282
@carponthefly8282 Год назад
That is a good question, that I completely missed in the video. Most of the flies are going to anywhere from like a size 14 on the small end to maybe a 6. But the majority are going to be 8-12. When I do the next video on fly selection I will go into this in more detail. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Another quick question. What type of leader do you use? is it a standard tapered leader? I'm guessing about 0-3x tippet? I have a streamer rod (Echo Streamer X 7wt) that is what I would like to try my hand at catching carp on, just worried about the time of year to start.

I typically run a 12 foot 0x, but a 9 would be fine too. I like Flouro tippet. So I run 10 lb Flouro as the terminal leader. That Echo will be a great Carp Rod. I am probably done this year. I have one more video I am making from my last trip before the weather turned. If we get a really warm day I may sneak out again, but otherwise it’s Trout and Bass until things warm up in the spring.

Quick question where can we find some of these flys if we don’t have any tying materials?

Good question, and one ai can’t answer right now. I’m working with a fly shop to try and get a good carp selection. House of Fly, but I don’t know how full the selection is yet. Because we are chasing a niche fish, it is hard to get many fly shops on board. But House of Fly is top notch.

Any carp vegetable , plants flies ?
@carponthefly8282
@carponthefly8282 10 месяцев назад
You can use them is some situations. They work if the carp are eating that type of stuff on the surface, or especially for grass carp. I don’t get to fish for grass carp very often, but I have grass carp flies that imitate leaves and moss. It’s not something I would typically recommend except for grass carp.
