Quick math: ~8,000 needed to pass through 7 gates in 1 hr They expected about 20 people to pass through each gate every minute.

I hate too imagine how crushed it was in those pens. I can think of it being very compact, but then I realise that it was even more tight than that. I can't even imagine what it's like to be so crushed up against other people that you literally can't breath or even move.

The 10 year old that died was called Jon Gilhooley and he was Steven Gerard’s cousin Steven was told he wasn’t allowed in the stadium .

How can they expect 10000 people to get into 4 gates and all of them to fall in order and do as they're told? Jesus Christ, the security of this stadium is terrible. I'd love for standing terraces to come back to English football, but these old terraces from the 80s were bound to cause a disaster sooner or later.

When you're in a crush, you have literally no control over which way your body goes.

There should be consequences for Politicians and for the police written into Law, whenever they deliberately lie to the Public! Or nothing will ever change for the good.

I have claustrophobia, and I felt breathless just hearing about the events that went down. Those poor people...

This is so sad. I can't help but imagine that this game had a lot of typical 'father and son' visits, and instead of enjoying the game together they suffocate, get crushed, get seriously injured or die. :(

This is one of the most horrific things I’ve ever heard about in my life. People squashed in so tightly that they were unable to expand their lungs to breath. My heart truly goes out to the families of the 97 - arguably more - people who lost their lives to this horrific and entirely preventable tragedy.

So they went on the pitch to get room to breath right? Imagine how dense it was at that game.

This is a perfect example of poor police management

It is astonishing that fans weren’t turned away. The capacity of the stadium must have been exceeded. And sending fans into two areas, a disaster waiting to happen. The police are at fault it is clear. Good lord it must have been frightening beyond all comprehension of what the crush must have been like. Very sad and could well have been avoided.

We grief with the families and friends of the affected. Condolences.

May be it's too late to react. But all the lives lost for a match, wasn't worth it. Some matches can be skipped. I hope we have learnt our lesson. RIP to all 96 🙏

Why were there only 2 ambulances on the pitch in the disaster? The number of ambulances on the pitch should have been either 30 or 40. Also, why didn't the fire brigade attend?

There's a documentary about this from 2016 (about 2 hours long). Everyone who thinks this is the fault of the fans should go watch it. Hopefully your idiotic minds can see that it's not the case. For everyone else it's an interesting documentary, albeit sad

the police got off with this, 2 centre pens were overcrowded a long time before the game started and not 1 police officer could spot this. also no one stood trial for changing witness statements, is that not a criminal offence in itself, bad day for british justice, makes us a laughing stock of the world. britain has for a long time challenged other justice systems in the world, time to get their own house in order.

As an American I had forgotten this. In 1989 I saw it on the news. Never knew why team rivalries were so intense. Soccer fans fighting at games. It turned me off from a good sport. Here it was a crush because of security concerns. Saddest losses of all.

This isn't due to negligence of crowd control this was due to Liverpool fans. This happened again in UCL final of Real Madrid vs Liverpool. And Liverpool fans were the only one causing chaos and not Real Madrid fans. Coincidence? Absolutely not.

I don't see how anyone can blame the police or security for this! Too many fans tried to get in and what happened, happened! It was a tragic event.

You can't really grasp the situation without survivors and eye-witness accounts. From an observer's POV with video clips alone, I can't tell how intense the crushing was.

I don’t understand, how did so many people die. 2 months prior my dad was there with more fans in that exact end, but nobody died, was there pushing and shoving or was it just that more and more crowded in?
