Series which finds out what happened to people featured in past BBC documentaries. This edition revisits a 1985 film which followed two opposing politicians - Republican Martin McGuinness, who was a member of Sinn Féin and Unionist Gregory Campbell, who also provoked controversy with his hardline views. Over 20 years later, we find out how much McGuinness and Campbell have changed as they've moved from the edge to the centre of government.

I lived a few doors down in Florence Street from Gregory. I remember him getting the cage over his back yard shortly after the shootings in Gransha. Mad thing was an IRA family lived 2 doors away from him, then a top UDA later moved in beside him til he got shot.

I don't disagree with any of the criticisms of Campbell, who has always been one of the most disagreeable of Paisley's gang. But let's not lose sight of the fact that McGuinness was (is) also a proper piece of work. Remember Patsy Gillespie?

I don't say this to bash but to observe . From where we now stand we can say with certainty that McGuiness made a contribution to peace whereas Campbell stayed mired in fear and hatred of people he never bothered to know.

Gregory wants to blame Martin for keeping the pot "boiling". What about Ian Paisley? Did he not keep the "pot boiling" himself? I can remember reading a quote by a loyalist prisoner saying "I wish I never had heard of that man Paisley".

Sadly, If Gregory Campbell ever had a sharp mind, it's been dulled by the bigotry, fear, and hatred that live rent-free in his poor narrow mind. It's time for everyone to forgive everything and everyone.💚☘️

did Gregory campbell expect martin mcguiness to be other than a normal family man? did he expect him to intimitdate his own wife - kneecap his kids etc. etc.?

What I'm on about is that Campbell referred to McGuinness being the biggest "pot-stirrer" IN DERRY. I don't believe that city has ever been Paisley's stamping ground has it? I don't disagree that Paisley has been one of the biggest troublemakers of the last 50+ years but Campbell's comment has a specific context that you've ignored.

Gregory says that civic people marching for the right to vote is provocative & this march was infamitary is hilarious 😂 considering the Marches he does, complete hypocrite.
@longday3607
@longday3607 3 года назад
How ironic at 6:50 he complains about a nationalist civil rites march that marched in a provocative way but yet he must think the unionists marching every 12th of July isn't provocative even when they enfringe into nationalist area's😂😂

He did specify "in Londonderry", to be fair. Paisley of course was most active further east.

I'm quite surprised that Martin McGuinness travelled around the Irish countryside in a car. A rouge patrol of UDR/RUC could have slotted him without any witnesses.

My. Mum was a military driver and was Ian paisley's security driver my dad an nco in the queen's regiment both said Ian paisley was a vile human being. I was baptised a Catholic but my heart is prodistent with that said I do wish the English would leave the Irish alone.

People like Gregory lose more and more respect from people as time goes by.. why? For a refusal to face the realities... There's large portions of Unionism that still unfortunately act like this... Let's not forget the IRA tried to make peace with a power sharing Agreement way back in the 80's. Ian Paisley made sure there'd be no peace
