Hell No. Parents owe their kids a good life; they choose to be a parent, the kid didn't choose to be born. Respect should go both ways. Too many parents don't see their kids as deserving of the respect they themselves demand. Black Chyna's Mom is obviously toxic & whether or not Chyna says something is her business. BTW, Loni's story made me so sad. I understand being a single parent is hard but what if Loni didn't make it? Loni's mom choose a man over her kid?! Someone shoulda call CPS on her. I'm surprised Loni forgave her.

Yes. Don’t confuse honoring and following like a sheep. But my answer is Yes. A parent not behaving well doesn’t mean I have to equally act like a fool. My character and principle have to stand up straight regardless of the situation. It’s tough but with God’s wisdom we will push it through.

I am hoping that she was not kicked to the streets but was sent to live with family as the mother was not capable of taking care of her at the time. Observing this toxicity it appears what would make her mom proud is if her daughter 💸 her up or at least direct her to getting her own shine/fame, she feels an entitlement. She would most likely then stop talking about her on social media. What's sad is it seems (from the outside looking in) she thinks shaming her will make her give $$ support. They are both hurt people and need some serious long term private therapy. Unfortunately I don't think either would really listen or hear because they both believe themselves to be right from their individual perspectives. It's really a sad situation to see played out.

My mother, who was the 2nd eldest and 1st girl of 13 children, went through many traumas during her childhood and some horrific such as, fgm, physical and mental abuse (brutal beatings from her father), child labor (which was considered normal back then) and had to forfeit education as she worked from the age of 6 to take care of the rest of the family, she got married off early (she chose somebody else than the selected one just to spite her father and feel like she had some type of a decision). When she raised me, she made a conscious decision to not repeat the cycle. She ran away with me when mentions of circumcision arose, she never hit me, never even yelled at me in an abusive way. When we fled our country for safety and landed in the West she made sure education was priority #1, she never forced me into the kitchen she just taught me skills, she never mentioned marriage until I started talking about it, she let me enjoy life to the fullest. She let me travel, I never had to hand in pay checks (I still splurged on her and helped financially without her asking), she let me enjoy the fruits of my own labor. I say all this to say that, although it's true that trauma scars us, it's still up to the individual to learn from their past and decide how they are going to live their lives and break generational curses with their own children. Sometimes it's too easy to let in to anger and just blame the past. And I am forever indebted and grateful for and to her, who chose otherwise and changed my life for the better.

Okay, I get what Loni is intending to say in terms of her forgiving her mother for kicking her out when she was 16, but I really wish she wouldn't try to put that as an example of "honoring your mother". What her mother did was absolutely unacceptable, and if she wanted nothing to do with her and cut her out of her life for being toxic like that, she would have every right to do so, even biblically. We need to stop, especially within the black community, pushing this narrative that your parents can be as toxic and abusive as they want to be, and if you decide you don't want to deal with that and want nothing to do with them as a result, you are somehow disrespecting them and that God won't bless you if you don't put up and shut up with their mistreatment. honoring your parent does not mean having to take their abuse and deal with it, because the Bible also says do not provoke your children to Wrath, lest they become angry or discourage. But sadly that bible scripture is almost never mentioned when talking about parenting as a Christian. The Bible also says that if the eye causes you to sin pluck it out, and if the hand causes you to sin to cut it off. It wasn't meaning for us to mutilate ourselves, it was meaning that if we are attached To someone or something in our life that is not good for us, to get rid of it. I think that needs to be said and put out there. If you are dealing with someone, parent included, who is bad for you and toxic, you do not have to deal with it and what has happened. You do have the right to cut that relationship off If it's for your better. it was big of Loni to forgive her mom and try to have understanding for what she did, but while forgiveness is required in order for you to grow and heal , it is not required that we understand someone else's perspective when they do you dirty and let them in for more.

I don't agree with Adrienne about honoring parents even from a distance especially if there is a level of toxicity to the relationship that the child should not have to continue to engage with. Sometimes you have to cut off contact completely with a parent for the sake of your own well being and move on with your life and leave them behind. I saw it with my mom who up until the day she died was a better parent to me and my brothers than what she had growing up because she was determined to break the cycle of abuse and neglect she experienced which was heartbreaking to have an understanding about

Loni only forgave her mom because she believes that she turned out fine and became successful despite what her mom did so she's conditioned herself to believe that what her mom did to her was "necessary" for her growth and for her to have attained the success that she has. This is a tactic used by a lot of people who go through traumatic experiences to help them cope with what happened to them. You convince yourself that what happened to you helped you in some way and was something you "needed" to go through. Also, Loni's statement about how she was thin when her mom kicked her out would seem to suggest that her mom was threatened by her because she was thin and she would have been an attractive young female in the boyfriend's eyes. I wonder if Loni started to gain weight and held onto it for so long because of this traumatic event. She most likely associates being skinny with abandonment. It would make sense for her to have gained weight after this event in her life. And before anyone comes at me, no, I'm not saying that all weight gain is caused by a traumatic event! But, for some people, it can be caused by a traumatic event.

I agree with most of what you’re saying it’s so sad. However, The Bible doesn’t enable toxic parental behavior in fact in Ephesians 6:4 it says that “fathers shouldn’t provoke their children to wrath but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord”. Meaning parents must also respect their children. Two way street.

If we're going to quote the Bible, we need to quote all of it. Abusive parents love quoting the verse, Honor your father and mother, yet they forget to quote the verse that says, Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Using the Bible to manipulate anyone into staying in an abusive relationship is a gross tactic. The Bible also says a man's enemies will be the members of his own household. The people in your household; parents in Loni's case who have a responsibility to raise you can do a lot of damage. Living with a savior complex like Loni is and accepting what you wouldn't otherwise accept because you want to show how good of a person you are is sad.

Let me tell you something that is a harsh reality. Not all mother's love their daughters they see them as competition.(especially when they hit puberty) Some mother's use their power to mess with their children. They gaslight them with their thoughts and other things just like the movie called Gaslight. They love breaking thier daughters boundaries they love control. The narcissistic mother loves fear mongering to gain control over a person. They love playing mind games especially the covert mother. If you were raised by this mother you were not loved you must must love yourself to heal.(you will not get that love from them)
@BTMos

What Loni revealed is pretty toxic and sad. I hope she has/is talking to her therapist about that. Because saying you don’t resent it at all seems not 100% true. She can get over it and that is healthy but engaging with her 16-year-old self and what her mother did is healthy for healing from the trauma. She doesn’t have to reveal her process but since she revealed the story it’s up for peoples opinions.
@BTMos
@BTMos 3 года назад
But also Loni’s forgiveness of her mother is not for everybody and not everybody has to go through the process of just being OK with their parent kicking them out at 16. How she chose to deal with it is her choice but that is not the choice that everyone has to or should make. Your parents are people and you can forgive them or you can walk away from them If they serve nothing but a toxic role in your life. Parental love should be unconditional but that does not mean it always is.

We somewhat touched on this conversation before about what shouldn’t happen when it comes to family things that happen amongst family members privately and become public... I honestly think in this particular case... Blac Chyna whole platform is built off of being unapologetically herself and real... I mean this to me is not news that her mother is being kind of toxic towards her... when she did her reality show on Zeus I believe it showed how bad their relationship is... not only that I think even during therapy sessions we seen that her mother didn’t really take accountability or even own any of her wrongdoings as a mother... to me children emulate or become who they are because of their parents and that can be good or end up bad... and seeing that they have tried working on their relationship and see that they are ina space where her mother feels talking about her in this manner just isn’t right to me... I feel for anyone who has parents that belittle them or speak ill of them... I think at some point when you’re an adult you have to choose to just move on once it feels like trying to make it work just isn’t working any more... you can wish them well , you can pray and hope for the best & just love from a far!

Summing up lonis statement. What I heard her say was. She was sixteen, she was at her "smallest". She can't be talking about age because she stated multiple times she was sixteen. So one will assume she's speaking on her body. Her mother had a new boyfriend and moved him in. Her mother wanted her freedom with her boyfriend and didn't want Loni there. Why? Why would she mention her body in this statement? No matter what you should never choose a man/woman over your child. I can understand if Loni was 18 and over but 16? This happens so much in the Black community.

The mom/daughter dynamic might and can be tricky if the constitution of such relation was shaken from the start. That does not make it ok to disrespect em. I also would say expressing, setting clear boundaries isn't a demonstration of lack of respect rather self-respect and the need to create a space for conversation without any lines being overstep when tensions are high or misinterpretations into what is being said versus complete honesty. I've come to believe the hugest and most often mistake (parent/child) when communicating is the unrealistic expectations and the perception of a mom has in fulfilling her role in the child's life. Establishing a healthy dynamic would factor in past childhood experiences of what was seen as the example and how they know, esteem the child.

Honor is just another word for respect. If parents cross a line of major disrespect you have a choice to continue to have a relationship with them or not. However, no matter what happens don't allow your parents wrong doings, block your blessings by being bitter and hurt. Instead, understand the situation and distance yourself from them like what Loni did. In the end the parents will definitely feel some type of way. Loni's mother is now financally depend on her. I'm sure she feels guilt and shame for what she did to her daughter. I'm sure a part of Loni's success is because she honored her mother. I hope you get what I am saying. Black people are so steeped in trauma it is exceptional to find anyone who isn't. The mother-daughter situations described by Loni, Jeannie and Adrienne are typical tropes displayed in many minority disassembled communities. Some mothers can be so toxic yet if you peel back the layers far enough you can find some redemptive quality to explain away their negativity. For your own health and wellness though it is ok to prioritise yourself to ensure your survival and happiness even it it means not continuing to pay homage to an icon for the most part only out of obligation and not love or respect. Yes you must practise forgiveness and show empathy but always recognise that no matter the generation it is incumbent on everyone to make themselves happy since life has burdens and trials; peaks and valleys. This is a topic that deserves more discourse: mother misogyny.
