Dreams can come true! At least that’s what British singer/songwriter Gabrielle believed and sang about. She developed a passion for music at a young age but was terribly shy about performing in front of large crowds. Eventually, she overcame her fear and went on to make a name for herself. It wasn’t without its challenges though. From people constantly questioning her about her right eye that she always kept covered, to comments about her weight to a battle with a psychological disorder that nearly ended her career.

Wauw!! i never knew she was from Dominica !MY family is also from there so are quite a many artists fzmily ,that people don't know ( snoop dog and That N&gga DAz to name few) howlee wauw! this was so tragic! Even though dumping a woman the day after she gives birth to your child is a trash move he kinda did her a favor in hindsight. Whew chile😮Who knows what this sicko could have done to her and their newborn if he's that volatile. Especially with him alleging being SA by him, just being around a crying newborn could have been a trigger. I'm glad she was still able to have a career after this incident.

I grew up with |Gabrielle songs. I saw her perform in the 90's at Crystal palace. She was an opening act for M People. She was every bit as good as them, and they were spectacular!. It's a night I will never forget and I love her for it. I pray she can make another album.

Hey fam 😉 You found another artist I've never heard of. The only Black groups I recall out of the UK are LOOSE ENDS, SOUL II SOUL, MUSICAL YOUTH, FIVE STAR, HEATWAVE, ETC... GABRIELLE is gorgeous!! She coulda/shoulda been a model. That eye patch has a mysterious-sexy going on(to me). I'd go see her in concert simply because I want to know her sound.

I love the intro to the series too. The beat is spot on fitting from the 90s and the clips from that era on back really sets that nostalgic feeling that takes me back to the best decade ever. She pulled that off flawlessly.

I love it when I see a name/face that make me go, "I kinda remember that artist, but what song did they perform?" And when you play a 5 second clip of a song or two, it's exciting to be like, "OHHHHH YEAAAAAH!!! THAT'S who that was!" Even if I don't know the artist, I will know at least one of their songs. It's like playing a trivia game of "Name That Tune".

Tracy Chapman said NO ONE IS SAMPLING HER MUSIC. which is wild because that means either her contracts were good and she is still making money off of her prior hits. She doesnt even tour often. I saw her in NYC a few years ago...maybe 7-10 years or so ago...she was fantastic...but after that....i dont know how often she performed. I remember Nicki wanted to sample Tracy, she declined and Nicki gave the track to funk flex and he played it...a song sampling baby can i hold you with Nas.... it was played, not a lot...but played nontheless...she would pay Tracy $300k for that mess up

I couldn’t stand the song Dreams. Solely for the way they’d play it constantly to the point I’d become sick of hearing it. Gabriel herself was always beautiful in person and by the way she presented herself. I loved her distinctive voice and look with the eyepatch or shades. She will stand as one of those artists who have created music that allows them to go away and come back in their own time. Thank you for the video. 🙏🏾💐

I love that she has been able to keep longevity in her career; its very hard, especially being a Black woman singer in the UK. I don't think her voice is that strong, but kudos for her getting through her obstacles. There is this amazing Black woman from UK, Mica Paris, she can saaaaannnng! I'd love to see a video on her. She's a beautiful woman and I never understood the whole thing she had about covering up her eye. You can clearly see in pictures where she isn't wearing the patch or sunglasses that both eyes were fine and besides surely she made enough money that she could have had the problem corrected with surgery later on? It's a daycase procedure at best. Still, Dreams is a classic and she broke records at a very young age so she has that as her legacy.
