Da Brat, born Shawntae Harris in Chicago, Illinois, was raised primarily on the west side of the city. She went back and forth between two different households since her parents never married. She’s also the paternal half-sister of actress LisaRaye McCoy. Her main introduction to music happened in the Apostolic Pentecostal church she attended several times a week while growing up. She sang in the choir and played the piano and drums. She began rapping at the age of 11 and also learned to play several different instruments at school. Brat’s big break came in 1992 when she won the grand prize in an amateur rap contest held in Chicago and sponsored by the tv music video program Yo! MTV Raps. So, what did she win? The chance to meet the teenage rap duo Kris Kross. But, things didn’t end there. They told her they were going to tell their producer about her. That producer was none other than Jermaine Dupri. Eventually, Brat and Jermaine would meet, at a taping of the Oprah Winfrey show no less, and he would invite her to come to Atlanta. Soon after, he signed her to his So So Def label.

I had forgotten Da Brat was the first female hip hop artist to earn a platinum record. She's uniquely talented as a hip hop star and actress. She and her half sister Lisa Raye delivered great performances in the film Civil Brand. Hopefully, Da Brat is happy in her new marriage and has overcome her anger issues. 🙏🏾

I had kind of a lil crush on Da Brat, when I was a kid, but I quickly realized that she was a lesbian (like pretty much everyone else did). IDT Da Brat was ever really "bisexual" (like I am), because from all accounts she just seemed to show interest in guys out of convivence (i.e. to not be outed in school & when she wanted rich men to take care of her). And all of her pretending to be attracted to guys never seemed genuine (especially on 'Dish Nation', when she used to pretend to like men when Porsha did) & now we know why. I hope she's happy living her truth, but her current relationship also seems like it's based off of what that person can do for her. Aside from the lavish gifts, that relationship also seems to have garnered Brat a reality show. I just hope Brat is making installments to pay off that victim, which she left scarred.

Notice how Brat doesn't have any stories of "regular guys" she liked? And she never says what she likes about guys, outside of what they do for her. And the way she described that she just gave him oral is kind of a dead give away. If a woman really likes a guy she'll be doing more than mere oral. No pregnancy scares should tell you all you need to know. It's much easier for lesbians to fake that they like guys, than for gay guys to do the same w/ women.

I feel like I've watched Da Brat grow up. I liked her thuggish, ruggish, bone personality...That take no prisoners thang. I was the same way in my late teens to mid-twenties 😀. I didn't care about her sexuality. I just kinda knew. Queen Latifah 💗 as well. They were Black Queens holding it down in the hip hop industry. Brat & Judy are a beautiful couple. You had to watch their reality show just to see the love they share. The wedding coulda been waaaay better(imho). They set a budget at $250,000 I believe but it wound up being double 😱 but for plastic flowers?? Folks were still decorating hours before the event. Who does that?? That event planner pocketed a whooole lotta that money. Lastly, Lisa Raye 😒 I never liked her. Brat didn't tell her anything and I wonder why? Who woulda known they were sisters? Lisa had to find out on social media about everything and the heifer caught an attitude. Judy fronted her about Brat but Lisa got swole because she felt Brat should've been speaking to her. Brat was very apprehensive talking with Lisa. She's lucky she was in the wedding. Eventually, Lisa seemed to be coming around...real or fake?
