Good unexpected video, oddly nostalgic. I still remember that song, and the cartoon vaguely. It always came on after what I was watching (tiny tunes I believe) Just like the song to Tale-Spin lol. I swear I remember another duck cartoon replacing DW Duck. *Idk if you have or not, but maybe an episode on The Tick?
One of my favorite aspects of Darkwing Duck is that he was neither too competent (Like Batman) or too incompetent (Like Inspector Gadget). He was often outclassed by the bad guys and begrudgingly needed help from others, but he mostly knew how to do his thing, and for most issues he can do it alone.
He visited my town once, but I didn't get a chance to see him. I did, however, go to a similar fan event at the same location and got to meet Felix Silla (Cousin Itt on "The Addams Family"), Doug Jones (THE SHAPE OF WATER) and Sid Haig (THE DEVIL'S REJECTS). I literally grew up with Jim Cummings. One of the very first TV shows I remember watching was "Dumbo's Circus" on the Disney Channel. Cummings voiced Lionel, the Brooklyn-accented carnival barker. I think that was his first major role for Disney.
It's great that Darkwing Duck still gets attention it deserves. I'm in my forties and still enjoy the show. I collected the toys back in the day also. Long live Darkwing Duck.
Oh hellz yeah! I remember Darkwing Duck!! All of us '90s kids do! Loved everything about the series, especially the new jack swing style theme song! Also loved the NES game. Man that brings back memories! I'm proud to hear that they are trying to reboot it. That's a reboot i would actually support. That & an ALF reboot. Also, that kick ass theme song to Denver the Last Dinosaur, lived rent free, in my head, for decades, & i did love the series.
An absolute classic of a show. I loved Darkwing! Theme song is a banger! Remember when TGIF premiered it on primetime FRIDAY?! Good times. I loved the Fearsome Five...my fave episode is when they get the gem and NegaDuck has all their powers. Games were great too (except maybe that TG16 one).
I remember the Disney afternoon commercials that would come on during DuckTales, Rescue Rangers, etc Darkwing was in the background even though we had no idea who he was. When we finally saw his show... It was worth it!
i used to watch it in Russia in the 90s. The translations were even better than the original! And not just for DW but for all the cartoons we've got - DT, CnD, GB, Tailspin, and so on. They would air it every sunday in the morning. Kids loved it! I surely did.
Darkwing Duck is my favorite 90s animated cartoon(I’ve been binge watching it recently, I fell asleep watching Darkwing Duck last night & I wake up today & this Video popped up into my recommendations) being a 90s kid was definitely a special time for me during my childhood. _The Shadow_ is still a favorite of mine, I remember my cousin _Markus_ having all of _The Shadow_ toys & when he & I teamed up with our own separate collection of toys for a war of the cartoon worlds was so memorable. _Nega Duck_ is my favorite Darkwing Duck Villain, _Steelbeak_ is a strong 2nd. My Uncle, _Demetrius Harvey_ (rest in peace) sung the Darkwing Duck theme song.
Darkwing Duck was an awesome series, I have them all recorded on VHS which are probably crap now. I would love if they did a reboot like Ducktales which was surprisingly well done.
Disney was imaginative in making greatness of animation, television shows, a Disney Channel and more importantly, style like no other. Darkwing Duck is a prime example of my childhood. Love live DW.
Darkwing Duck was my favorite cartoon to watch growing up. When Funko released the Darkwing pops I bought all of them. Cartoons back then was sooo good and it lives on forever in our hearts and memories especially when the theme song hits.. I will have to break down and watch newest Darkwing episodes you mentioned but the animation style I just can’t take. lol I will fight to look past it.
I always thought he looked like Golden Age Sandman because Darkwing uses a gas gun from time to time like Dodds does and Darkwing's bill stick sout like Sandman's gas mask
Man that show was my jam, I remember every episode you just brought up even though have not seen them since I was a child. I missed all those references to hero’s at the time. So thank you for pointing them out to me.
I've always been a huge fan of Dee Dubbya! I used to always change my mind on the question of who is my favorite super hero. Until some years ago I realized Darkwing Duck is my favorite, and probably always will be. LET'S GET DANGEROUS
This was one of my staple shows as a kid. I got a lot of the toys, but they were cheap and broke apart easily. I had to do much toy surgery on them with superglue.
I remember when my school had coloring pictures of darkwing duck during free time. Still watch cartoons from my childhood. And darkwing duck is one of my favorites.
Finally someone pointed out Darkwing Duck is more The Shadow than Batman, the villains on the other hand, definitely mostly inspired by Batman‘s rogues gallery (and a little Spider-Man)
The nostalgia is strong in this one. 😻 I was 15 when DW first aired, and even as a teenager I couldn't wait to see new episodes. Right beside the Gummi Bears (and others) it's one of my favorites cartoons of all evers! I'm 47 now, and sitting here watching this I find I have to wipe my eyes (in a GOOD way) just from the sheer amount of emotion attached to those memories. I'm a fairly new addition to your channel but I can't express how much I LOVES this "not forgotten" series you do. It truly means a lot. Thank you 😻 (Also, you mentioned Sliders! In my Top 5! Going watch that next!) Did you ever (or would you) do Misfits of Science???
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed Darkwing Duck's similarity to The Shadow.👍 Also, I unironically say "let's get dangerous" any time I feel the need to psych myself up for something.
You say Darkwing Duck went into syndication in Soviet Union, but the Soviet Union colapsed in the first year it came out and the Cold War was already over.
You should probably make a video about what happened to tiny toons, I was also wondering about why the successful tiny toons from the 90s didn’t came back after all these years!
Seeing the dark wing duck episode must have inspired the writers of Superman TAS to make the brave new metropolis episode where Superman allies with Lex Luthor and becomes a tyrant. He goes evil after Lois is killed in his universe.
Dark Warrior Duck episode must have inspired a writer on Superman Animated series. The episode Brave New Metropolis has Lois go to Alternate dimension and where she died and Superman joined Luthor and became an enforcer and was very stick like Dark Warrior.
Dark wing Duck was like Disney take on Batman which was exactly cool for the time period.Even Michael Moore Robot Chicken take is so hilarious and scary at the same time.😄😵😢
darkwing duck is one of my favorite shows EVER, found this show on disney+ during quarantine and ive loved it ever since :) too bad not many ppl my age know about this show though (im 16)
Darkwing Duck was my favorite show as a kid too! I loved watching it and a few years ago I met Jim Cummings at a con and after thanking him for essentially helping to voice my childhood I told him that I loved Darkwing Duck and still did (I mentioned a few other roles of his I loved too but Darkwing was first lol) and he said...in Darkwing's voice... "Why thank you, Gosalyn" I was beaming and just felt like you could have knocked me over with a feather in that moment.
I'm a little surprised you didn't also mention how the show kinda predicted the landmark 'No Man's Land' Batman-arc as well! And if I hadn't COMPLETELY lost faith in Disney, I'd say "this needs a movie NOW!!" =)
Darkwing Duck, Rescue Rangers, Ducktales, TMNT, Gummi Bears, Tiny Toons (especially when they have those death races), Batman: The Animated Series, Spiderman, Transformers, Captain Planet. Man those were the days. They don't make them like they used to. Now it's all grooming brainwashing nonsense.
I'm in Canada and when I checked last year I can confirm "Hot Spells" was not offered on Disney+ either. I have it on VHS somewhere, at least. Not my favourite episode but still it'd be nice to have the whole series offered to the fans.
My favorite episode is the one with the time traveling top and the judge dredd version of DW. I haven't forgotten it in decades. Edit you cover it... Oh well but yeah best episode.
I dont know why... but the Episode where he got split into his Good and Bad version... never left me. That is an Episode that, even now, comes to mind once in a while.
I think the inspiration for Darkwing Duck was Darkman, the vigilante character who first appeared in a 1990 live action film. Obviously Darkman drew inspiration from the Shadow in terms of costume design. However, Darkman would have been the most recent reference to draw from around the time Darkwing Duck was being developed. The Shadow was an obscure DC comics character who first appeared in the 1970s. The popularity of Darkman and Darkwing Duck is what led to the Shadow getting a live action movie in 1994.
Wow you are completely wrong. The Shadow was a pulp character from the 1940s. Tad Stones also confirmed that the Shadow was the inspiration not to mention that the shadow and Zorro had an influence in Batman’s creation
Seth Rogan is heading that reboot and that makes me very concerned. They had gold with the DuckTales reboot. If they kept that going with the Darkwing crew then I'd be excited.
Actually alternate universe Negaduck Along with the Fearsome Five first appeared in Just Us Justice Ducks part one and then again in Just Us Justice Duck part 2
What if Batman had a kid that never stayed at home? Then DC comics created Damian Wayne. And for years I always thought the BAS was an inspiration for DWD; but come to find out it was the other way around which is pretty interesting when you realize both were really popular and even still till this day. And to be fair; unless you were a die-hard comics fan when the show aired; not too many people were going to know who the Shadow is. In addition, that live action adaptation I only remembered watching in the local movie theatre after watching this RU-vid video. So, it's also possible a lot of people just forgot the movie and the character even exists. Just like the Phantom.
Fun facts about Darkwing Duck Negaduck is originally from the negaverse like that one episode of the KND and the bakery sugar spice and everything nice like the powerpuff theme & Dr. sera Bellum same name from the mayor of Townsville assistant name Miss.Sera Bellum
