Minor point of correction: the 12 ships that survived the destruction of Unyielding Hierophant weren't used by Regret at all. Regret's fleet were just forces he had with him when a luminary he had finally revealed the location of the Portal to the Ark. The 12 surviving ships would be scooped up by Truth and used as part of the initial reinforcements sent to Earth after Regret bugged out.

@@evantoledo6678 Exactly, my guess is that when they wrote this book they knew that fans liked Johnson because of his presence in the game (and the demo for the game beforehand), so they kept him alive and eventually Bungie decided to make him a pivotal character for the sequels. In addition, he's given essential character status in Halo 2 and 3 so he cannot be killed during normal gameplay like other marines, but in Halo CE he could. I may be wrong, but I think canonically the only times Chief and Johnson are in the same area together in CE is the attack on the Autumn at the start of the game, the rescuing of the survivors on the second mission and possibly the mission to rescue Keyes on the Truth and Reconciliation (I say possibly because the marine that looks and sounds like him and the rest of the marines that follow you in the ship get killed by Zealots when holding the area while you get the Captain, but that could possibly be retconned). Canonically he is with the company of marines in the swamp heading to the Flood containment site with Keyes during the time Assault on the Control Room happens so the Johnson marine we see in that mission is not actually there in the canon story.

For those that don't know. Halo CE only has about 6 avatars for the Marines and Johnson is used twice in two different roles, one has Johnson and the other has a random fire team Sgt. Technically, in game, you only see Johnson in the missions Halo and 343 Guilty Spark. Any where else is supposed to be the fire team Sgt.

You forgot to mention that they couldn’t directly go to Earth because that’s a violation of the Cole Protocol. J117 suggested Reach because it was already destroyed by the Covenant (and he was hoping to find survivors).

I don't know, it sure one of the more well known novels out of the Halo Expanded Universe. My underrated novels would be The Flood, The Cole Protocol, Broken Circle, Shadow of Intent, and Envoy.

Honestly, the spartans last ditch efforts and tactics are incredibly creative, and actually remind me of real special forces tactics. They think outside the box and can pull off some of the most insane operations possible.

you do see Johnson at the end of the first Flood mission, before Chief is teleported to the Library, he's one of the marines you help escape. it's worth remembering that in CE, Johnson was actually just one of the generic marines, but his character was so distinctive (mostly due to the fantastic voice talent) that he was made into a main character for Halo 2, this is cool for a number of reasons but my favourite one is the notion that it could have just as easily happened to Chipps Dubbo.

For anyone curious on the book this information came from. It was the halo book Fall of Reach. Well worth reading and I still remember reading many parts of the book back in middle school in the early 2000s. I thought it was abit wrong not to mention such a great novel that gave us this amazing experience.

I mean, MJOLNIR is GENERALLY more advanced than Covenant armor (more complex life support systems, strength-enhancing augmentation, etc) but I thought Covenant shields were still miles better. High ranking elites in Reach have shields that are stronger than Spartans or base elites, and in H3 brute chieftains even have armor that can go invulnerable but still allow them to move.

Sammie1053 I mean it’s true that special abilities and soldiers like invincibility and an ultra or zealot would have stronger shields, but I think on average UNSC (spartan) shields would be stronger because a ultra or zealot wouldn’t be a common sight, whereas the average elite minor or major has weaker shields than Spartans. It's standard operating procedure. You don't let your hardware fall into enemy hands. Doesn't matter if they're using superior firepower or technology, etc. You don't want your enemy learning how your stuff works. What if it turns out there's a thermal exhaust port in the armour that the UNSC knows that could insta-kill a Spartan with a well-placed rock? Wait, that explains the Jackal Snipers...

The MJOLNIR shields were more efficient (dissipated energy and heat much faster according to Halsey). It's probably not that the covenant shield are worse its just that they don't use them to their real technological potential. If you read the first 3 books that gets mentioned alot

I always thought there were secretly a large number of Sgt Johnson clones. It just made too much sense as a kid who hadn't read any expanded material. You can kill Johnson so many times, and have him even return later in the same mission in some cases. Then he seemingly dies on screen, then magically returns in halo 2, saying his survival was "classified."

Really great book, but honestly deserves another rewrite, since Chips Dubbo and Marcus Stacker really had to be with them too Maybe even Jun-A266 as well. In the meantime, who would've thought that Operation: RED FLAG, which was made with the Pillar of Autumn and her vehicular arsenal of Longswords, Warthogs, Scorpions, Pelicans, and more, lots of UNSC Marine elements, and lots of Spartan-IIs, ended up almost irrelevant here due to having the same results (apart from the absence of taking a Prophet hostage) being done well with just a small manpower pool and lots of improvisation?

That's magnificent. I just finished this book yesterday, continuing my may through the Halo books. I especially liked the last chapter, was a really interesting story of something actually not being connected to the rest of the book. By the way, great video and great timing ;) You just reminded me of this epic conversation between the pirates and the captain of the Ascending Justice-Gettysburg-hybride-ship (that must have been a thing to watch), the bluff of both of them was dramatic in that situation but I really had to laugh. Just imagine if those books were realized in a Halo TV series, I would love to see the stories visualized.

Could you do a compilation vid on how each member of Blue Team died? For the longest time, I was under the impression that John had been the lone Spartan ever since Reach, and that the books were just situated between Reach and CE. Never realised there were Spartans elsewhere as I was playing Halo 1, as there is nothing to my knowledge that hints at the case. I'd love it if Infinite brings back the Spartans as a thing.

Im pretty sure that in halo two, regret never invaded earth, he stumbled apon it looking for forerunner artifacts. So this doesn't make sense

To fill in the gap between halo 1 and 2, This book that I read back in 2003, should have been a movie back in 2005 with the Rock playing one of the marines and some of the famous voice actors in halo 2 also playing parts as marines/ covenant actors and voices. Around the time the Rock's Doom movie came out. That way we all playing Halo 2 at this time who didn't read the books understand what happened between the two games. THEN later on , in 2007 a sequel could have been made where the Rock and the same famous actors/voice actors were put into a Halo movie that takes place on earth during Halo 2 witnessing Prophet regrets ship leave earth but the elites continue to devastate the planet and the middle of the film could have been "pre-Halo Landfall" seeing Truths fleet of Brutes arrive on earth killing all humans and elites, and the end of the film could have been just Halo landfall. A film to hold everyone over Until Halo 3 came out late 2007.

I think you should do a video comparing the Headhunters to Noble Team. Who's "better?" because if I remember correctly the headhunters are directly under ONI whereas Noble Team is serving under the UNSC as a whole. I think it'd be interesting to compare the two.

You forgot to mention that the Covenant ship Chief and co took was the soon-to-be Arbiter Thel's command ship. Chief and Thel fought onboard - Chief unloaded a while assault rifle clip into Thel's torso at point-blank range but he still didn't go down, so Chief eventually pushed him into an escape pod and launched it.

They and some others took over a Covenant warship, slipspace jumped to Reach, picked up an admiral, some surviving Spartans and Dr. Halsey, slipspaced to a rebel base, Halsey kidnaps a Spartan, then the Johnson and co. slipspace jump to a Covenant space station and blow it up then they go to Earth

Unyielding Hierophant didn't explode because of the crash but because the whole point of the mission was to overload the reactor by downloading a copy of Cortana into the computers. The crash by Whitcombe was just so there were more ships within the blast radius.

The only thing you got wrong was the when the Gettysburg collided with the unyielding hierophant wasn't why it exploded. It was to lure the other covie ships closer to the blast when the overloaded reactors went. But aside from that one bit this is a great video. I love the channel. Keep doing what you are doing buddy.

They used the Ascendant Justice to ram the station... Gettysburg wouldn't have survived even the pulse lasers. That's why you ram it with a shielded vessel; because you can shrug off the pulse lasers and they won't dare fire torpedoes on a holy artifact.
