Yeah, Mitsubishi Motors is just the low lying division under Mitsubishi Heavy Industries which is part of the Mitsubishi Group with its other siblings, Mitsubishi Corp and Misubishi Finance. My point here is, Mitsubishi Group could care jack shit about Mitsubisbi Motors. It's got a ton more going for them financially with their other enterprises in heavy machineries (factory machines), aircrafts, ships, banking, holdings, trusts, chemicals, energy and other high performing margins then their more popular but least performing automotive division. Just saying, if Mitsu Motors failes to innovate moving forward, I wouldnt be surprised if they'd ax this division Side note, Mitsu Finance is even the largest stake holder of Morgan Stanley!
@@bluspectre2042😅 Sports car market share is 3.1% world-wide 👈🏿 The R35 Skyline is the modern interpretation of the 3000GT. In 9yrs, the 3000GT VR4 sold over 25k units. In 15yrs the R35 has sold 13,417 units. Perspective, total 3000GT/Stealth sold was well over 150k units in 9yrs in a RECESSION. The crossover, and pick-up truck is what sells. Small cars, SUVs, and midsized cars sell between 8-10% of the market each. Crossover's 45% and pickups 19%. The 3000GT was a luxury car, right now 5.3% are buying luxury (sedans) cars. The fact it was a luxury sports GT, it would fall into a very niche market of 0.7%. Now imagine telling your boss to make a car that cost billions in R&D to maybe make 0.7% 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 There's several car's that are the 3000GT today. That's the R35 Skyline, Ferrari 812, Ferrari F12, and Ferrari 599GTO. Those are the modern interpretations of the 3000GT. A Skyline can be had for $50k. The closest the 812 is $400k minimum. The 3000GT/Stealth sold over 150k units which was more than all its Japanese rivals combined. The VR4 sold 25k +877 for the VR4 Spyder which was still more than the others turbo models, and during a 10yr US recession. The R35 has been out since 2008 and its sold as of 2023, 13,417 units and the 3000GT cost $50k back then. For a sport GT, I'd say it sold damn well. America has the market locked with Mustang, Corvette and now the Charger, Challenger and Camaro meh. The problem isn't Mitsubishi, its the CONSUMERS. Most people stopped buying sports cars. Why? They can't afford them, or the fuel. Mitsubishi is racing again. They race there entire lineup in rally or Dakar. The entire line up are super reliable. Just buy a R35 Skyline, and put a Mitsubishi logo on it 😂
later foreign markets also got the vr4 galant which was planned to replace the lancer but they cancelled it and then came out with a much lamer newer galant. so the plan at one point was to abandon developing the lancer and make a better awd galant(than they did) even just awd v6 one would have been pretty cool. but i hear you, 3000gt turbo manual were pretty sweet.
It is not just the Lancer Evo that has a legacy. The Pajero is legendary in Dakar. 12 victories for Mitsubishi. The most of any manufacturer. Mitsubishi also recently won The 2022 Asia Cross Country Rally in a Triton Ralliart. They also had a driver take 5th place. They also have a Outlander Ralliart coming soon. I hope we one day see them back to the way they were but at least winning the Asia Cross Country showed us they still have a love for motorsport and even beter they have what it takes to come back in motorsport. Would love to see them back in Dakar
@Schluker yeah but different categories should have stated it better won most dakars in the car class and kamaz dominating the truck class. KTM the bike class.
The made the lancer evolution by pure accident, the board tried to cancel it many times but the engineers would pay the marketing team so leak and promote it so the public would expect the car
Here in Asia now and I am driving a Mitsubishi Triton truck. Carries everything from sacks of cement to Ducati motorcycles. Traverses rough terrains and floods easily. Just loving this truck. Sadly not available in the US.
By the way, I'm still driving Mirage. It's a beast of an eco car. Mainly used in the city but on a couple of occasions, I took them on road trips as far as from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and back (roughly 1,400 km or 870 miles). This year is the eleventh anniversary with a millage approaching 250,000 km. Never has a major breakdown once. A couple of minor road accidents now and then but overall, an absolute unit of a so-called small car.
I ain’t know what country you in but if a fucking MIRAGE (one of the cheapest new cars here and for a reason) is considered a BEAST in anyway to you besides affordability then that’s depressing af also “so call small”?? NIGGA THE MIRAGE IS A TINY ASS ULTRA ECONOMY CAR with the worst everything, but I’m impressed af that pos lasted you 155K miles
underrated, I really thought this was gonna have thousands of comments cause videos edited like these always have a ton but in my suprise theres barely any, you got this man youll get big in no time I believe.
The EVO was the only successful vehicle they made. The Galant VR4 was just a good engine in a family sedan. 3000GT was too techy and was also a flop. Eclipse had too many variations. The Legnum was just a Galant as a wagon with no real intentions on making it a continuation
The Mitsubishi Magna VRX ralliart was made by Mitsubishi Australia and was a V6 powered AWD sedan borrowing the styling from the Evo, it won the Production class in the Australian rally championship, in the early 2000's
It's still very much in competing in the market in Asia and Europe. I lived in the UK for almost a decade and Mitsubishi cars are as commonly seen as any European or other Japanese brands. Likewise in Asia where I live now, Mitsubishi is still dominating the pickup truck market and to a lesser extent, the Mid-size SUV with its Pajero Sport still being a household name in Southeast Asia, China, and Japan.
To be fair, they’re not just a car company in fact cars only make up a fraction of their production. They’re a company who tried out cars to expand their production line but couldn’t keep il with the big boys
kinda underrated. Totally agree that Miisu doesn't perform well like others in the states and it's true that SUV and Crossover are boring. But to the rest of the world Mitsubishi reputation for reliability and value for money is very strong compared to the US counterparts. Sorry I live it Asia and when it comes to dependability and reliability Mitsubishi is better known than the US-made brands.
The EVO isn't the best thing that came out of Mitsubishi. The Pajero is. Legendary, iconic SUV. Nothing symbolizes Mitsubishi Motor's more than the Pajero. They focus on SUVs because they make great SUVs. Not to mention the Triton is one hell of an off-road pickup too. The Delica van is a legend in Japan. Mitsubishi Motor's sales have been trending upwards globally because they are now focusing on the global south, although at the detriment of their American markets. They are on the trajectory of another car maker that is deemphasizing the US market for growing Asian, African, Middle East and Latin American markets where vehicles are focused on toughness and reliability. By the way, screw the JDM mindset, that's not really what the reality of the Japanese car industry and market is all about.
Mitsubishi is good, durable and strong. They brand exist as engine producer before Toyota. Before they make cars, they make sea ship engine. They also make trucks and war vehicle for Japan in WWII. And they still the only Japan brand who produce Tank for Japan military. Mitsubishi is the best Japan automotive brand I think... 😁
A typical American point of view. The Eclipse was only a known quantity it North America, the reason for Mitsubishi not making another coupe is the fact they don't sell in large enough numbers. Look at the Toyota/Subaru/BMW tie-ups. For companies as large these they have to do a joint venture to make these cars remotely viable. Look at the original Eclipse, how many companies made a version? As for the Evo, it's basis is a Lancer which is in a dying segment, are Mitsubishi going to plow tonnes of resources into a 3 box saloon or into the much more lucrative crossover market? Mitsubishi have a very large presence in the South East Asia markets, this is why Nissan have a stake in the company.
I remember the eclipse being a huge success , when I was in high school they were really popular .They weren't the fastest but they were fun .Mitsubishi I thought made a statement a long time ago that they really weren't interested in keeping up making sports cars for whatever reason.I think it's cause they made more building SUV's like the outlander and selling box trucks .I'm sure there gonna be coming out with there own ev's too since that's the way the whole industries going it seems
It ain’t just Mitsubishi going to shit, almost every new model/refresh from brands keep getting fucking uglier and uglier with them shitty ass designs and overly big ugly ass screens with big ass bezels/screen going over the dash (on most new cars nowadays)
They disbanded DSM and joined with the Mopar umbrella. The last performance car Mitsubishi made was the Evo, and even the 4th Generation Eclipse was a disgrace.
Their reliability has gotten better, yes, but WHERE LANCER EVOLUTION I'm willing to take an electric, as long as it sounds and feels real... and is powerful and power efficient, AWD, manual, and has the look of the previous EVOs :))
They're the dad with the minivan that used to be really cool. They now work a low-end 9-5 with barely any savings at the end of the pay cycle, sometimes even going negative where they have to use some of their savings to pay the bills. They used to kick royal butt on the track, on the regular too, now they stress themselves over the morning and evening commutes. It is a very slow death as mediocrity completely envelopes them, but you can't help but root for them. You remember the good times and wish for more, but you doubt they'll ever have a good year again.
It’s getting old when certain people talk about other companies from certain countries but yet will talk big about everything European. Do your research about Mitsubishi. Overall still successful and doing quite well globally when it comes to the technology sector. Cars were a phase for them and they still make them.
Well, no harm in trying again then. A new Lan Evo or Pajero Evo would be a smash-hit. Maybe enough of one to revive the 3000GT. They are supposedly making a new Cappuccino, so the possibility for reviving models is there.
Not just the Evo, look at the history of Mitsubishi, how they dominated Dakarr rally, they were amazing back in the day, really sad to see the company forget everything and make soulless vehicles for people who don't care about cars
What really fucked over mitsubishi was that 0/0/0 sale when they said 0 payments for a year, 0 down, and 0% interest. That fucking TANKEDDDDD their cash flow
Cars o believe only accounted for 30% of the profits of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The thing is I’m all about a car company having a complete line up I.e sedan family vehicles ,SUV , Van , light load truck and of course a flagship or sports car or cars. Looks at Toyota and Chevy they definitely got it right but emphasis on Toyota. They have a big range of vehicles. But hey this their SUV’s can actually tow!!! I have a EVO X and 3000gt. The wife and we’re looking at an SUV but one that can tow from Mitsubishi and currently there are none!!! Reason? Because we already have passenger vehicles another SUV wouldn’t make sense without using it other than hauling people. Cars are tools for practicality and tools for emotions and tools to learn. So yes Mitsubishi has the layout but choose not to do well. Even a sporty hybrid is welcomed.
You’d think with Mitsubishi being involved in so many other industries and being so success in those that they could continue their racing aspirations and give us road going versions akin to the Evo. Bean counters gonna bean count though. Mitsubishi really is the tragic story of what happens when the accountants win.
There's only 1 Mitsubishi Dealership here in Austin, TX.... Been that way for 15 years. You can get the vibe just go to their Lot, and see how empty it is.
Well, you will find an answer to this question in Asia. If you go there, you will find out that they don't need to come up with something cool for EU/US, cuz they already have asian market...
Wish I could see new evo’s comin out still but I got my evo x. Most of Mitsubishi’s sports cars are non existent in the Midwest rust belt now, few n far between.
They have legacy, they have history.. Americans only knw Mitsubishi through Lancer Evo.. Well.. Kindly do some research, how good they 'were' in their hay-days. They were innovators.. Sadly they have forgotten their roots n all.. Hope to see them back bcoz they can..
Mitsubishi makes so much more than cars. They make military vehicles for the JSDF they make heavy machinery, they make HVAC systems for your home, they make the turbos for the 10th and 11th gen civic. They do so much more than cars. Mitsubishi will be fine if they stop making cool cars. I'd still love the Evo or Pajero to come back
Actually the making good money in asia with triton and pajero, and maybe australia too. And recently they just release a new compact suv based on xfc concept and everyone here love it (indonesia). Why you said suv is dead, suv is the king of car today. Even lambo, porsche and ferrari making suv.
That may be true only american market. But overseas Mitsubishi Monteros (pajeros), L200 (tritons), regular old lancer, 3000GT, galant VR4, FTOs just to name some of the good ones they've built.
If it wasn't so expensive and if they didn't cancel the manual the year before it came out, the mirage ralliart would be such a fun little car to drive.
3000gt, eclipse, montero were all good and successful Mitsubishis, they just keep discontinuing them because no one wants to pay lots of money for a Mitsubishi
not even just the eclipse or the vr4 but even cars like the mirage were amazing. It’s not that they’re only making suvs, but they cheaped out and took the easy way out
