What Happened To NFL Europe?

Oh boy, I'm late to the party here, but I hope you read this KTO - I have something to contribute. The NFL Europe was actually the league that raised my interest into football. I lived in the Frankfurt area and I watched 3 home games of the Galaxy, when I was a kid and I totally freaked out, when they won the World Bowl in this season. Now...with that being said, there is actually a wild story to the Frankfurt Galaxy beyond the existence of NFL Europe, and it still lasts! This whole thing is actually worth a video: The Frankfurt Galaxy - and in general all German teams of what I know - had a huge following, considering that football is a niche here. So...when Galaxy officially disbanded, the Frankfurt Fans founded the Club "AFC Frankfurt Universe" in 2007. Same uniform colors, very similar logo. And this team participated since then in the german league structure (we have promotion and demotion here). Frankfurt worked their way up to the second league (GFL2) in 2012 and they played very well in that division. In 2014 one shady dude took over the role of the GM (if you want) and decided to revive the Frankfurt Galaxy (under the name "Galaxy Frankfurt by Universe"). With this a lot of changes came to the Club. The first Team got outsourced into a company (it's a bit like Franchising), while playing under the license of the Club. During this year the team managed to gain so much interest and attention because of this. They could hire players who could easily compete on the highest levels of Europe. The hype got so big, they had the biggest attendance in GFL1 and 2 combined and this phenomenon still lasts. 7000 was the highest mark of attendance. An average of 5500 came to watch the games in the 2015 season (other teams are happy to have 1000-2000 people). It was without question that the team would go undefeated through the season. They literally destroyed every opponent in their way in front of thousands of people. So they won the GFL2 and got promoted to the first division. However, the shady GM dude lied to the league and his partners, the Club of AFC Frankfurt Universe. He never had the rights to use and advertise the name Frankfurt Galaxy (this could easily happen, because the GFL is an amateur league and a lot of responsibility is within the participating teams). Whenever he had a deadline to bring proof, he never made it. At some point after the 2015 season, it came to light, that there was in fact a written warning coming from the NFL back in 2014, which the GM dude obscured. When this came to light it caused a whole lot confusion. AFC Frankfurt Universe cut the partnership to the company lead by that GM who held the first team, the contracts to all coaches and all the players. But that team had no rights to play in the league anymore, because the license was held by the AFC Universe Club. And both parties advertised for the next season, both sides made sponsoring contracts - which was a really ridiculous scenario. The Club had no team, and the Team had no license. Eventually a high profile mediator needed to settle that and the shady GM had to step down - because he would have ended up in a world of (bigger) trouble. Eventually - I'm not sure about this - the Company ended up under control of the Club and the players and coaches could play the next season. Frankfurt was never officially listed as "Galaxy" on official league sites - because they feared lawsuits from the NFL. However Frankfurt had the Jerseys with Galaxy, the Fans chanted Galaxy, they advertised with Galaxy and the stadium had the highest attendance because of it. So one can say, the Frankfurt Galaxy was alive for a whole year from 2014 to 2015. The aftermath of this: After the promotion, Frankfurt played as Universe again. But they could keep riding the wave they generated due to the revival of the Galaxy. There are still thousands of people coming every homegame. In both 2016 and 2017 seasons Frankfurt made it to the playoffs, even to the semi finals this year. The team is now one of the most professional teams in Europe. They have great facilities and an actual stadium to their disposal. One of the most prominent players currently playing for Frankfurt is former Running Back from the Baylor Bears Silas Nacita (the guy who was homeless and the NCAA ruled him ineligibel in 2015, because the University gave him shelter - if you remember that story). He is playing here now - he has even a youtube channel. Anyways - I hope that wasn't too confusing and made up a good read. I tried my best to write it as understandable as possible. :)

I played in the United Football League for Jim fassel after a short stop in Green Bay in 2010 and 2011. Made all pro and actually won a Championship. That was a cool League, with solid Coaches. Their was many players from that league that made to the NFL.

Just because It's a different league, with different cultures, as you know how European fans are, It doesn't mean the league is "weird". European Customs are different from American Customs. So Tailgates are not usual over there. Luckily, there were no ultras and hooligan firms in the league.

Some of my best memories are for the nlf Europe days. Watching the Scottish claymores and travelling to Amsterdam and Germany a bunch of times. German crowds for rhine and frankfurt were always strong, and Germany was a blast to go to. I even recognise some of the Scottish guys from your video lol

And they have a huge chance as ran nfl and pro7maxx are showing the games live in germany. Pro7maxx is the tv channel that shows the nfl and the same group build this new league. Football had a huge hype in germany and many people watch it, and they gonna watch the european league of football too. Pro7maxx is a big free tv channel in germany and the little bro of pro7 wich is the biggest channel in germany. Everyone can watch for free. My expectation: sooner or later it is going to be the second biggest league for american football behind the nfl

A former player at my high school played in that league and actually led the league in receiving one year. Also this guy was on the 1998 Minnesota Vikings squad that went 15 and 1. Hes the only player in our school history to play in the NFL. They even retired his Jersey number.

I remember Oregon State University's Ken Simonton being sent to the Scottish Claymores seconds after he signed with Buffalo as an undrafted free agent. He dominated over in NFL Europe, easily making MVP. He decided to come back to to North America, where he did absolutely jack squat with the NFL and CFL. Dude was a great running back, and used his diminutive stature and quickness to his advantage. He was kind of like Jacquizz Rodgers or Darren Sproles.

I remember the first seasons when american and european teams were playing and travelling and scheduled times for the matches were a nightmare. Also cool thing that you've shown MAnny Burgsmüller in your vid. That guy was in his 50s when he played as a kicker and he is a german soccer legend and still holds the record for oldest ever football professional.
