What Happened to Oliver Tree?

Just saw him live. He addressed to the fans there that Life Goes On was not his best song, but he performed it because he credits a lot of his growth to it. Get Well Soon or Balloon Boy are great songs with meaningful lyrics.

7:19 I believe that line was a reference to Melanie Martinez's song titled "Carousel". Melanie was his former girlfriend of his who was similar to him with her unique sense of style in the music world.

Cowboy Tears took a few months to grow on me and now I really like the different sounds he went with. The reason he had to re-release stuff like that was because he spent too much money on his videos and was recouping losses. 2of the videos his production company made for Late night (colbert/corden) got him banned from late night

his transformation was way more than a sophmore slump. he got super weird and creepy

What you're not understanding is he isn't a one style person. Oliver Tree is a concept. The first concept was mid 90s rock/alt/hip hop, current concept is early 2000s country/pop/hip hop. How is no one getting that?

This is a really interesting if maybe a bit of a harsh breakdown - I was sceptical when I heard he was coming out with a cowboy album but with a bit of listening, I literally love almost every track on it to death

For me personally, I actually really like 《Freaks & Geeks》because it's deep as usual, look at the lyrics carefully and think about it. It really makes sense. Like: ”Don't stop, whether you like it or not.” I don't know how others like it, but for me myself, I really need energy like this.

I don’t think you understand what Oliver tree is about, he’s a meme. His music derived from memes and not taking anything seriously. He’s literally an artist that does what he does because he genuinely loves what he does

I formally agree and disagree with you on some points about the songs on the "cowboy tears" the album: Agree 1: I don't like some songs on the album they are trying to be better than "Ugly is beautiful" the album, but there are songs that don't work like California. 2: Oliver Tree tried to make an "emo/country" genre and it's just an "alternative" genre. 3: I think the turbo character (UIB version) is so perfect. Disagree 1: I like the album because he's trying to experiment with a unique style that not everyone may not like. 2: Not every song on the album is my favorite, but my favorite song that I consider as worth to listen is "Cowboy Tears" the song. 3: I like the new style and he has cool long blonde hair. He played at summer smash fest in 2022 and the crowd was so small. Wasn’t even a crowd. He even said “I know you guys don’t wanna be here”.

btw for any video editors out there STAY AWAY from Pixel Film Studios products. They started out fine but are now buggy as hell and never render correctly. That's why you see all those red boxes throughout the video that take up the entire screen.

I disagree respectfully He’s doing this for himself, he doesn’t have to appeal to anyone. Sure the record wasn’t as fruitful or exciting as Ugly is Beautiful, but I honestly just see someone having a good time and living their best life. Good video though

I remember back in 2019 thinking Oliver tree was gonna take the world by storm with his image, antics and personality combined with the popularity of tik tok, but I guess that just didn't happen sadly. I loved his sound :/

I just saw him live a couple weeks ago and it was one of the best and most entertaining shows I've seen in a really long time. It's also funny because I'm not really a fan of country or emo and I loved Cowboy Tears. No it's not as great as the first album, but I've still got faith in him.

He has been known in the skateboard/rap/edm/ECT scene for a long time.pretty much anything California (lol).he's in with the island boys.so he's an island boy .

Oliver doesn't owe anyone anything. It wasn't a big FU to the fans, because Oliver simply does what he wants. As talented and special as he is as an artist, its what makes him unique. Side note: Oliver's new album wasn't rushed. Why would it be rushed, when he went through the effort, money, and time to not just record a whole album, film expensive videos, and completely change his character? Like that's a huge risk he's taking on his career, but he's done it for his own creative satisfaction. You seem to only care about his album sales and appearance. Personally, I think you completely missed the point of both albums and their characters. And although, I dont like CT nearly as much as UiB, I can't agree with you when you say he disrespected the fans, because the world doesnt revolve around you.

I'm definitely happy that oliver us trying new things. Yes, the cowboy persona is a bit much and the music videos can be kinda..... But I love cowboy tears and every time I listen I like it more and more! I get that Cowboys tears isn't really a country album, but it has a country theme. Maybe it's the lyrics or the way it just sounds idk, but I am definitely happy that oliver tree is trying new things!! Also, about life goes on. Life goes on isn't the best if his songs. I like it, but Hurt or Cash machine would win me over easily. Oliver is happy that he got a huge boost of success from this song, yet he is also a but disappointed that it wasn't one of his better songs that he put work into. He also stated in the Logan Paul stream that life goes on is over 8 years old and that he didn't put very much work into it. Either way, I'm glad oliver is doing new stuff and I'll always be his biggest fan! (Also, oliver tree's new song "I hate you" Is actully really good. It's like a mix of cowboy tears and ugly is beautiful.)

cowboy tears grows on you trust me its some of his best work you've gotta let it grow and I personally prefer the new Oliver tree in his interviews he puts a lot more of his own personality into his new character and is far more interesting then the spoilt kid persona he used to have the bowl cut Oliver will forever be classic but I feel there's a lot more substance in this new version of him

I don’t know I’ve enjoyed a lot of what I’ve heard from Oliver. Yeah there’s garbage in there but there’s some really great stuff including things he’s sung on like Forget It. I can get not liking the silly country vibes but Playing With Fire may be one of my favorite songs by him and Suitcase Full of Cash is pretty damn good also. I honestly can’t wait to see what comes next for this artist. Much like yourself he’s the first artist that I’ve really liked in a long time.

I think Olivers newest album absolutely sucks and you actually said something that EXACTLY happened to me: My first song I heard of his was "Life goes on" and I fucking hated it. I thought it was absolutely obnoxious and wrote him off as a character, as an artist, as a performer, etc. I absolutely fucking hated it. The second feature I heard him on was a little big song and that gave me a chance to reconsider him but I didn't go seeking out his stuff I thought he was a meme and literally just playing the system to get attention and money. Once I was told his music is good I listened to other stuff that WASNT the bad shit and was fairly impressed but it didn't change my mind because I was already in the thick of hearing his music when he was already on the down slope. His latest album is absolutely horrible and I again and in the mindset of "I dont get the appeal. I dont know who he is making his music for. He is just a meme." And that's it. I think he himself is a joke and he'll just fade away one day.

Cowboy Album Grows on ya

I started listening to Oliver tree because of life goes on and on. Agree that his first album is really good but I don't agree that the deluxe was a totally trash. I really like all in all and life goes on and on. All in all is a great song and while I don't like life goes on like his other songs I think it's still quite good but I might have bias since it's the first song I heard from him. I also don't see why he switched to cowboy music but I really like most of his songs on this album and mabye because I started listening to him just before he switched to cowboy music, I didn't really mind the switch

Back in 2000 when I was a huge fan of Mindless Self indulgence, when they had just released Frankenstein Girls and I first heard that, I thought they would be the future of punk rock. I'm so glad my younger self had no clue that they would turn into a Hot Topic band and punk would die 😔

He was actually one of my favorite artists but then life goes on came out, and even worse the remix for jerk came out. He still has potential but I’m one of the guys who “liked older songs” or think mainstream “ruined their music”. as a fan of about 2.5 years this new album is a massive disappointment. i would only 4 or 5 tracks on the album to be good. the rest ranges from just ok, to really bland and forgettable, to just earbleeding in california's case. since the life goes on success everything has gone downhill in terms of both music and oliver as a character. btw speaking of life goes on, yeah the studio version is terrible but i would really recommend listening to the pre-release live performance. the live version has better production, its in a lower key, and it has an extra rap verse that makes me wonder why he removed it from the final version.
