Funny how most people get upset about physical media dying but yet they don't do anything support it.
@ScottyDunn
@ScottyDunn Месяц назад
True True. It comes in handy to have a physical copy, especially if it's one of those movies you watch a lot. Don't want to be a dependent on streaming sites.

Piracy will always be the best option. I have gotten a lot of rare or OOP stuff through downloading remuxes, a few of the items aren't available in the US on BD.

Streaming killed some fun traditions. Going to a movie theater as a first date, or with your buddies for an action movie, or with your family for a family movie. The THX Surround Sound. Or memories like going to the video store to let your son pick out a movie. I never used Redbox because it seemed so impersonal compared to a store. What happened to all the unpaid and medically in debt employees is criminal as well as impersonal.

I just rented a DVD back in May! So sad. Lyle the Crocodile was really cute.
@justlaura7177
@justlaura7177 Месяц назад
It really is sad! It's probably part of why nostalgia in movies is so big: people want to go down memory lane to a time they had no idea wouldn't ALWAYS be there!
@ScottyDunn
@ScottyDunn Месяц назад
Exactly. I'm still dealing with the fact that movie theaters aren't as popular as they were when I was a kid. Who knows what another decade of changes will be like. It's exciting and melancholic at the same time.

I watched Interstellar I rented from a Redbox a little while ago. Very convenient because there is one across my backyard at a dollar store. RIP my friend.

@ScottyDunn Месяц назад
That’s cool that it was right across from your backyard. Also… I love Interstellar.

@ScottyDunn

Yep. The rest of the kiosks will probably all be gone within a few months.
@HorizonHipHop
@HorizonHipHop Месяц назад
@@ScottyDunnwhat do you think will happen to all the kiosks?
@ScottyDunn
@ScottyDunn Месяц назад
Great question. I think they will be sold off to interested parties like thrift shops and specialty retail resellers. You’ll see some of these kiosks in ppls personal collection in the future. If I could, I’d grab one and put a handful of DVDs in there just for fun.

Blockbuster video was to me what best buy was to you. Nostalgic at its finest.

Nice! I loved Blockbuster. I miss their carpets and overall vibe. Thought they'd always be around when I was a kid.

I've always been a fan of collecting physical media ever since I was child. I don't know why, but my small kid brain thought: "One day, these are going to valuable and I could sell them and be rich." I still have most of my consoles, disks, cartridges, and tapes. It keeps expanding, because now, I wouldn't trade them for the world. It feels much more personal to boot up a device, load in the accompanying media, and then watching/ playing said media. When a service stops showcasing a particular movie/ game that you like, you get slightly bummed. "Ah, hell. Well, there goes that". But when you drop a physical copy, it strikes you at your core. There's way more of an emotional impact owning physical media that it is getting lost over time because for some reason, it's getting weeded out. You should be in control of the situation. You have the illusion of choice when it comes to streaming media.
@ScottyDunn
@ScottyDunn Месяц назад
Glad you kept all of your consoles, disks, etc. They’re treasures.

I watched so many movies from them during my teen years. Certain indie movies would never play near me so I knew Redbox would come in clutch when it came to those titles. RIP to an era. 🙏
@ScottyDunn

Redbox used to be my go to for movies before Netflix and other platforms. After karate classes the instructors and myself would rent a movie, grab some food and make it a movie night a couple days of the week. I have good memories with these things. But of course as technology advances some things become more obsolete.
@ScottyDunn
@ScottyDunn Месяц назад
That sounds nice and cozy man. Good memories. Redbox and chill for the win. The prices were good too!

The issue with the V-Stock you went to is the mall is closing and going to be knocked down for new development. The other V-Stock locations are operating selling music, movies & games.
@ScottyDunn
@ScottyDunn Месяц назад
I was glad to see that it wasn't all of the V-stock locations. I'm going to visit one of the other locations when I can. I"m always glad to see places like that do well.

yes dude, laserdiscs are the best because of the extra artwork, also it's pretty cool to collect dead media. glad i found your channel, subbed

Really enjoyed the video! Never bought into redbox myself, I went straight from the fall of rental stores like Blockbuster to digital purchases on Amazon. Something I have come to regret as the years have gone on.
@ScottyDunn
@ScottyDunn Месяц назад
Hey thank you for watching! I got into a lot of digital purchases on Amazon as well. I still do that actually. I just make sure to get the really special physical media that I want to watch over and over again. Gotta have those in the collection.

@@ScottyDunn yeah I was genuinely surprised to see it still on. I probably could’ve kept the Blu-rays, but chose not to since they technically still have my info. It even still connected to my old Redbox account. I need to go back and see if it’s still on or not.
@stonesfan285
@stonesfan285 Месяц назад
I still generally buy things on Blu-ray if I really like them, but I am running out of space. You shouldn't buy digital copies because they can be removed and you won't get a refund. Streaming is a decent option if you just want to pay $20 or whatever and have access to a bunch of stuff.
@ScottyDunn
@ScottyDunn Месяц назад
I agree that streaming is a decent option. It’s how I watch a majority of what I watch. It’s super convenient and I love it. But I Love my physical media so much and it’s great having it as a back up and for content that isn’t really available anywhere else (special features, commentary tracks).
