The 2000s, often criticized by horror fans for lacking quality releases, much like past decades such as the 1990s and 1980s. Despite some bad movies, there were also hidden gems like The Strangers, The House of the Devil, and Brotherhood of the Wolf. People tend to romanticize the past and criticize more recent horror films. In 2005, a variety of horror movies came out, including "The Devil's Rejects" (good), "Hostel" (interesting), and "Cry Wolf" (terrible). In the midst of this, the director of the excellent 2002 film Dog Soldiers released his second feature, The Descent.
