The creator said they not including Scooby because it will make the story looks childish. Fortunately for Scooby his characterization isn't ruined by this crap
@@prasetyodwikuncorojati2434 I've seen some of the jokes in this show and they're not mature at all. They're childish or extremely surface level. For example, Fred being a rich, incompetent white guy with a small dick. That's it. That's the joke
To be fair, would you really want to see how they fit poor Scoob into this self-insert, hate-fueled, sjw salad? He's better off held intact in our memories.
My condolences to the people who actually believed that this show would pull a 180 and turn it into a "maybe I was the bad guy after all" type story, idk the exact name of this trope.
Even if the show was planning to do a 180 It really wouldn’t be worth it to sit through the whole series and not just the last episode Again just because it was purposely made unfunny, doesn’t make it any less bearable
@@AbdefFable1 She wrote "Never have i ever" Which is a pretty funny Netflix comedy. Not amazing, but I enjoyed it. Charlie Grandy is the one who made Velma. Mindy was just an executive producer which means she didn't have any involvement except money.
Knowing we lost shows like infinity train before their prime while this schlock starts getting actual awards Stirs a primal type of rage within that i never knew existed .
Shaggy of the past absolutely hates being called by his name. This adds more layers to them just pissing on the source material. The LEAST they could've done us given him a nickname...
@@MohammedAgbadi lol thats true, which in reality is okay. Just dark, which I mean my humor is too, so I get it. But wasn't expecting that, I guess they did a good job in that respect?
You know what's effed up? A person tried to defend Velma twerking on a dead body and leaving her family except her mom out of the house. They even got made someone had the gall to call Velma a bad person but also defend her for being an unlikable character.
It was greenlit well in advance iirc. But even so, all they care about at the end of the day are views, negative or otherwise. Because it still counts. People ought to pirate it rather than watch it on the streaming service if they really MUST watch it, otherwise we're going to get more of this garbage at the expense of better shows
Um... didn't she already have a reputation for destroying everything she touched and being an awful, toxic person? Seems more like her reputation was confirmed and unchanged.
I still open my jaw that she got a medal from Biden. I cannot even conceive how that is even possible. There are many shows that deserve way more than Velma. I mean come on you guys are you series?
It was probably a medal to commemorate just how shitty a job she did. Kinda like how the Darwin Awards commemorate idiots removing themselves from the gene pool.
Velma was already renewed for a second season after the second episode released if I remember. Starting to wonder if they might try to make more shows this bad because people do hate watch these kind of things and that is conserning.
I think I've heard that Mindy was gonna double down on all the things people didn't like about like show that she thought was great ( like Velma just being an ass, the meta jokes, all the white jokes) so 🤷🏼♂️ yes its gonna be worse
After everything we saw of Velma's character, I just don't believe she wouldn't take the deal Fred's mom offered her. I would respect the show more if kept the characters consistent and wrote the ending their bad writing demanded. Fred would have made a better Velma. If they put his brain in her body, I would have watched season 2.
@@justaguy_yt1240 They've had season 2 locked in from the start, they're just making a big deal of saying they got one to make it seem like season 1 was more successful than it actually was. In reality, it's likely that their so-called "season 2" is actually just the 2nd part of season 1.
ok, so here me out: I'm white, and i'm ok with a "haha colonizer ur stupid" joke if it's executed well. Thing is, when nearly every Velma episode makes a white person the butt of the joke simply on the basis of their skin color or economic status it stops being funny and just becomes racism. It shouldn't matter who's on the receiving end of "you're *inset skin color* so you're stupid or evil", this shit is not ok.
Also it does not really feel like a consistent or well thought out parody even, because the shtick of most of the characters isn't even based on quirks the original characters have. Compare this for example with Harley Quinn, were most characters are either exaggerated or played edgy versions of themselves build on iconic comics or cartoon appereances or have their comedy based on subverting usual expectations. Like, Bane have his voice actor pull off a Tom Hardy parody, while his personality is more of a wholesome comic relief. Sure, there are some people who get pissed at when for example the show makes fun of Batman, because they don't understand what satire is, but generally there is no denial, that the writers are pretty knowledgeable about the DC universe and seem to be genuine fans. Not to forget that they are willing to take risks in favor of a good or funny idea, like Jokers whole redemption arc which they have dedicated themselves to Bruce Waynes zombie parents arc which lead to quite a bit of character development and genuinly great moments for everyone involved.
right like if your sense of humor is based around racism of any variety, maybe you should just not try to make jokes at all mindy. it seems *someone* didnt learn from spongebob that you can be funny without being hurtful !
Absolute no. Since AI art is the worst human invention, I cannot imagine how bad their story is, considering how normal human like Mindy can creating this abomination
Its almost like Tumblr Self Inserts fanfics that ignore all cannon are a bad idea and should never be considered as professional grade content. Who would've guessed? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's kinda crazy how hard this show tries to make Fred unlikable and smear all over his character and yet he's the only character than has an actual development.
He comes across as sympathetic and goofy, and even seems to be willing to selflessly help people at a point with no ulterior motive. I can't say that for the rest of the main cast except Daphne™ who is still a bit of a jerkass.
The fact that Velma shamed Fred for the size of his pp, like, this is body shaming too, I don't get how this is still mostly socially acceptable, it's messed up
@@BabyGirlTinyTrue that first thing may be, but on the second point, as executive producer and VA of the main character and thus face of the show, she is not absolved of anything here regardless. Even if she didn't type it, it carries her essence through and through.
This show creates problems for itself and no one who wrote it was interested in solving them. It's a shame because problem solving creates opportunities for clever writing. It's why I learn more from watching bad shows than good ones. 4:05 This is a great example. Why didn't Mrs. Dinkly interact with anyone in the cave? Why does she suddenly become active in time to save Velma? One small change would have fixed this deus ex machina. Someone should have snapped there finger when Fred ran out into the cave. We learn latter that finger snapping undoes hypnosis. It could have been established then that Mrs. Dinkley was in a trance and Fred's mom kept her that way when she wasn't using her for the brain operations. This small change adds continuity to events and ties into the ending when the villain reveals her use of hypnosis.
@@andresomerville4896 but it's very unlikely if you look at the reason a lot of the writing is as "woke" (I hate using that word) as it is. All stems down to the creator's political views and commentary (as seen by the amount of times they bring up white males being disproportionately better off and the whole freaking ending being "you'll be so much happier in the body of a rich white dude because society favours them"). There's so many better ways to add messages into shows, especially adult ones, without blatantly just explaining everything to the audience like they're 3 year olds...
the step mom sophie is amazing as a character if you know she helps velma a lot but all she gets is getting kicked out and even fred who tried to find a different path he only wants to impress his parents but now either of them cares and those stuff make it bad.... I hope mindy which he won't do is to literally make the show better in season 2
Don't forget how the mother "married a rich guy, and its thanks to her she made them rich" Also her whole motive is based on the fact she failed as a mother and is blaming her kid for it.
Y'know, given how everyone is dunking on Velma, I have to let this out. Velma is just another bad adult animated show in a sea of them. I completely understand how hardcore Scooby-Doo fans utterly despise this show, and I'm not saying they are wrong for feeling that type of way. Scooby Doo, the MAIN SELLING POINT OF THE FRANCHISE, isn't in the show, the characters are completely bastardized to hell and back and it's just so mean-spirited and cynical. There is a whole lot to hate about Velma. But, in the grand scheme, it's also important to remember that this show, while leaving a massive stain on the franchise, will never take away the amazing adventures from the Scooby Doo projects from before. Scooby Doo is a long-running franchise that's had it's ups, downs and all arounds over the course of decades. And if Velma has done any semblance of good in this world, it's that it united people from around the web to unanimously agree that it's not good, like at all. On top of that, it got people to look back on the old Scooby Doo projects that deserve recognition, like Mystery Incorporated. Again, I'm not saying anyone is wrong for hating Velma. It really does suck. But what I will say is that Velma's just another bad adult animated show in a laundry list of them. And Scooby Doo has had many amazing adaptations beforehand that we can appreciate all the more since Velma reminded us why people love Scooby Doo in the first place. So don't waste your time with Velma. It's not even worth it.
I grew up with Scooby. I wanted to give this a shot, but Velma was just painful from the start. My condolences for all time lost to anyone who sat through the whole thing. I fear someone sold their soul to get a second season.
i dont get only one think why people say that Velma solved the mystery is she never in this show did that? Fred, Daphne and Norvill were the only ones who did that and Velma just get the credits.
They left the baby outside the house? Sorry but, does the writer or creator has a grudge against a stepmother/step-sister or something? That is the one reason I can imagine someone being so spiteful against characters that did nothing to anyone, as some kind of (pathetic) surrogate revenge. Btw, your hair looks awesome.
I wouldn’t have actually been so bothered by Fred’s mother being the villain if they used the art of subtlety, having her secretly drawn in the background (kind of like Where’s Wally?) as a clue for the audience. Also, serial killers often comes back at the scene of the crime to “admire” what they’ve done and getting an adrenaline rush. Idk, I watch a lot of whodunnit shows and movies and love these subtle moments. Velma twerking pretty much just sums up the show.
There's a fan made scooby doo episode on RU-vid (live action) They have a better understanding and respect for the source material. Even with putting their touch. This was modest with flaws, The velma was annoying but cute annoying not rude and mean. And Every characters has a define personnalities and goals.
Honestly, this wouldn't have been *that* bad of a show if the characters just weren't already from Scooby Doo. There was no point in taking those characters and changing them. They were fine. I suspect that if they just didn't try to alter already existing characters with this plot, it would've been hated way less.
*Can we all hate the fact that MINDY HERSELF. WAS ACTUALLY THE VOICE ACTOR OF DISGUST FROM INSIDE OUT!?? I can't... look at Disgust the same way anymore...
Ok I know this cartoon is a hot disaster and I'm probably (hopefully) looking too deep into this but I noticed something I find rather alarming with the whole brain swap thing. With Fred's mother wanting to put Velma's brain into a white man could be read as "you're nothing unless you're a rich white man" which couldn't be further from the truth. Like I said I hope this is a reach but it's something I did notice.
"If the logo was on the glasses, she should have recognized the logo" Mate, I can't believe you're making me defend Velma of all things, but as a lifelong glasses wearer, I can tell you: The last person who would be able to tell you what is inscribed, engraved, or otherwise emblazoned on a pair of glasses is the person wearing them, because the entire point of glasses to us is that we look clear through them. I actually had to take my pair off and examine them when you brought it up, and this pair I've been wearing for three years now apparently has a nice little simple mosaic up near the elbow on the arms. First I'm learning of them.
It's such a shame because the animation, the character designs, the background art is all pretty cool. I watched the show and I was like.... man the writing is not for these characters. I think everyone's personalities in the show are so random and off from their "trademarks" that it becomes too distracting. Idk it felt like more of a parody of the Mystery Gang characters? Unless that was the point?
this show seems like it would be a lot better if the characters weren't so mean to each other. you could even leave in the wypipo jokes, just make the gang LIKE each other
Yes! Everyone needs to do this. The show was ordered with two seasons, not three. Next season will determine whether this trash continues on. Apathy works a lot better in cancelling shows than outrage and hate watching.
Have you watched the show Mystery Incorporated? It's also about the scooby doo gang, except it's live action and also set in modern day. It aired a few years ago. And they got Scooby.
I bet this would’ve done better, if instead those changes they made, were instead friends original Velma and the crew knows. Like… I thought of something already, where “Black Velma” (as I call her) is instead a long time friend of OG Velma named “Edna Verik” who has more frizzy hair, but in the same sort of style, and it’s a bit longer. She was introverted just like Velma, before she gained enough self confidence to spruce herself up, and slowly try to become a fashion designer. Instead the show itself would be these newly established characters helping Velma become more self confident before she became part of the Mystery Gang, and went on adventures with the others. Something along those lines.
Remember class, anything can be art. Except what Mindy Kaling did. Mindy helped make something that attacked the collective cultural tapestry of our species. Mindy has created the opposite of art.
Velma was my favorite character from the Scooby-Doo franchise growing up. I looked up to her so much as a girl with glasses myself it made me happy. This whole show it was like I was slapped in the face, kicked in the stomach, then had hot soup thrown on me. Such a disastrous disappointment
yeah! scooby was only mentioned as a cancelled project the old scientist (dr perdue) was working on, since there's a season 2 apparently we might see something regarding scooby....or not..who knows any of these things
So wait, the killer took the brains of 'meddling teens', so that they could brain-swap it with soldiers so they could spread 'awareness of war' and draft the teens to participate in military? Although yeah, it doesn't have vocal cords, so it's not making any sense. Unless you place them inside a body... a cyborg body.
You're right about all of this Can we at least agree to not watch the second season? None of us should torture ourselves, much less give it any attention Watching it means it will keep airing
Velma was green lit for a second season before episode three aired, besides there wasn't enough people hate watching on HBO max to get the ratings needed to for them to keep it going normally so no way are we going to see a third season of this leftists hate mongering.
I watched a video of "Velma's best moments," and 10 seconds into it, my head began to hurt with shooting pains inside my skull, screaming at me to stop.
i'm sorry for my bad english I would really like to see a version of Scooby Doo from LavenderTowne, she redesigned and rewrote the characters. She did it in a way that makes sense, and manages to be more mature. Shaggy is nearly blind and Scooby is like his guide dog, so Scooby finds clues and is a big help without needing to be a talking animal. I thought it was a really cool idea. The title of the video is ''redesigning scooby doo bc velma is awful'' from LavenderTowne
The sad thing is, now she might not even get to voice disgust in the inside out sequel and when characters have different voices suddenly, it just ruins the movie experience for me and I'm really mad that she ruined one of my fav childhood characters and then this causes more issues for the future
This show feels like every episode is a different draft of another focus entirely hastily rewritten in attempt to make consistent. Like Velma's varying degrees of intelligence, regressing character development, the heart attacks, Fred in general. The writers' table had to been a mess honestly.
I feel like Velma is just Never Have I Ever but even worse. An awful, self centered, arrogant and selfish main character who blames anyone but herself, and butts into everyone’s drama because she thinks she’s entitled to, and uses the fact that she’s an Indian woman to try and “call out” the world for not giving her what she wants. Now guess if I’m talking about Devi or Velma.
15:15 Bro? Deflecting bullet? Even the presence of the series in someone's video makes brain hurts. Edit: Not only he deflected a bullet with a shitty homemade sword with questionable integrity, but he managed to deflect the bullet with the velocity that able to break a stalactite big enough to unalive a grown person. What is this? Minecraft?
I think the show is kinda misunderstood. I kinda started to jive with it about half way through. 1)Lump it in with "Married With Children" & "Always Sunny In Philadelphia" as a cast of entirely unlikable punching bags that bad things happen to. 2)Remember that Scooby has a Multiverse & the animators wanted to see just how alternate this universe could be. 3)Think of it as a Troll. It did representation so bad that the LGBTQ+ said it was a right-wing psyop parody. Still... There is the possibility that it was like how "Dinosaur Planet" was retooled into "Star Fox Adventures" & was an original series concept only greenlit if it was retooled into Scooby, which would honestly make me think considerably less of it.
Velma is the epitome of EVERYTHING WRONG with western entertainment and a textbook example of what happens when you bring in a cast and crew with NO LOVE or RESPECT for the source material, its community, or the medium in general.
6:17 GOSH this mess of character is really a freaking self insert, look at what is written there "Future TV Writer" Is there a word that mixes vomiting, infuriate and cringe? Because I'm feeling all of those things after hearing your summarization of those episodes. 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Didn't even watch the show but any hope I could have had for the show was fucking nuke into oblivion when velma called the cops on norville's dad because he had a welding helmet which are pretty fucking common
This show is proof that a good chunk of people in hollywood are only where they are because they fail upwards in that business. This is why Indie productions are starting to beat big budget productions in media like Indie games, webtoons, and animations made by single people or small groups on RU-vid. This show was total and utter trash. As a minority shown in this show I can personally say that this was not a message like Mindy thought. I felt personally attacked watching it and again, I am a minority, I am not white. This to me personally shows how disconnected people like Mindy are, how in their own world they are, how uninvolved with the general people that celebrities like her pander too. But from this I see a little hope. The majority of people have spoken. A large amount of dislikes on the trailers, low ratings by fans and critics alike, and just how the internet reacted to this that shows me maybe there is at least some hope. This should be a lesson to people like her. Your bubble on the internet is not everything. Remember Algorithms show you what you want to see, not how the rest of the world is and that doesn't matter what side you are on. Loudest online group does not mean biggest or more important or anything like that. And I feel a lot of people online, especially celebrities, politicians, and even a good chunk of normal people out there need to learn this.
I'll say this before I go on to watch the video: it's about your title, it implies that the rest of the serie was not utter trash, which it was, unfortunately. Hey, you changed it and now I look dumb!
If they were going to lie, why couldn’t they have lied that the stepmother and the baby were just renting a room from Velma’s dad? That would have explained why they were there and it would have been realistic enough that they wouldn’t have needed to tell more and more lies. Also, why was Daphne painted as bisexual and then Velma was surprised that she displayed interest in both men and women? This show had zero thought put into it. Actually, there was one thought put into it- the thought on how to be as disgusting as possible.
