What Happened to the Prince of Persia The Sands of Time Remake? 

I swear if they cancel the remake… Prince Of Persia is literally why i am playing games and why i love them so much.. i really hope they don’t disappoint.

There was a actually a developer who worked on Sands of Time Remake who posted about the experience of working on the game on the Gaming leaks and rumours subreddit back in 2020. A few days before the game was revealed they stated it would be show during the UbiForward Show but that everyone should tamper their expectations especially when it comes to the graphics - Once the trailer released and people realized the account was legit, the developer came back and made another post detailing about how Ubisoft had grown sick of the 'Bring Back Prince of Persia" and "Bring back Splinter Cell" crowds, so decided to give one of their lesser experienced teams a shot at remaking Sands of Time. The team were excited at the idea and saw it as an opportunity to finally prove themselves as AAA game Devs - and then they saw the budget they'd been given, and realized this was a game that was being sent out to die to shut fans up, and that this team was just being treated as the fall guys rather than being given an exciting opportunity. Once the trailer was released and Ubisoft realised how passionate the gaming community still was about the IP, they panicked and delayed the game throwing extra money at the Devs to try and started offering more support studios to assist development. What happened after that is anyone's guess though, I would imagine that the game was so broken that this eventually led to Ubisoft realizing they'd have to start from scratch, which is probably when they decided to just hand the game to Ubisoft Montréal.

I personally really loved the 2008 Prince of Persia.

It was mistake for ubisoft to give mobile based studio this project. You see all these great remakes like re4 and dead space because the developers are taking it serious. Something ubisoft never did

I swear this is one of the best trilogy games ever. It's what got me into gaming. I was obsessed with SOT. Then RE4 and GOW solidified gaming for me.

Rewatched the prince of Persia movie the other day I always have a blast with it to be honest 1 of the better movies based on a game

I'd very much like to see the Warrior Within remake. The game totally engulfed me back then. I played and replayed it multiple dozens of times, not to mention that it's soundtrack was basically my entry to Alternative metal / NWOAHM, which I listen until today. Big kudos to Inon Zur, Stuart Chatwood and Godsmack for this wildest soundtrack.

Warrior within is the best... Combat, story, experience top level 🔥🔥 All time favourite.. They should bring back that combats

As my favorite Prince of Persia game has always been Warrior Within i hope there will be a remake of that game too at some point. Until then i'm looking forward to an announcement of a release date of a HOPEFULLY great remake of Sands of Time

This franchise deserves to be remade with all the love and passion, take another 3 years, but do justice with the franchise.

I would have loved to see the three first games remade... And a brand new game but of course well done... I loved this game when I was a kid.

I am from India and when I came to know that this remake would be developed in India, I was filled with excitement as well as concern. While it was a really proud moment for the fans here, it is good to note that there is no massive AAA game development company which is based solely in India. We've not made games that hit the mark yet. We're really behind today's graphical enhancements across all games. So I'm a little glad as well as upset that Ubisoft decided to shift the studio. Part of the reason for this could be that we are highly inexperienced when it comes to PC game development, the studio also has only worked on creating assets and mobile games so they did not have a high experience at development of PC or Console games. Though it's heartbreaking, it's okay, because we aren't the best yet, there's a lot of time to improve upon. I hope we get more opportunities like this though and I wish them the best! Hope they learn a lot and gain experience first then try out making a game next time.

I was an intern at the same project, i know it was difficult to work on a new engine, as pointed in the video it was difficult and took most of the time and the footage u saw was absolute RAW footage. (Edit)

We really need a new prince of Persia it was a beautiful game but I want to see what current gen unreal engine 5 could do.

warrior within will be my best game ever reason being the time it came out and the way I played it. i'm a 90s kid and PC was a luxury until 2005-08 here in India. when I finally got myself a pentiem 4 (previously had pentium 2 so only dos games were played) and one of my classmates have me POP warrior within. i played the dos version of prince of persia and was expecting some similar type of game. but when I started the game my whole world changed like how the fuck is this a game? 3D gameplay with sword combos and parkour !! damn that's like top of "cool shit" for any kid that era xD also the game story was top tier and no game since then had me that hooked in a game story. sadly two thrones sucked compared to warrior within. it had silly villain and stupid dark prince gimmick when compared to dhahaka and sandwraith

Great video. Loved it and love this game series :) I just wanted to point out a couple of corrections. The various releases of Forgotten Sands didn't tell the same story but rather each game told an entirely different story with different gameplay. The PS3/360/PC release telling a story of the Prince at his brothers kingdom, the DS version telling a sort of follow up story to the main game, the Wii Version telling a story of the Prince using a genie to wish for his own Kingdom and the PSP version telling a story about him facing a fire spirit because of a prophecy. as for The Prince of Persia movie, it isn't supposed to be the same continuity as the games exactly but rather heavily inspired by it. After all these delays though, assuming we get any version of this game at all I'd love to play the version we were initially shown anyway. I definitely wasn't confident with it but I still would have loved to give it a shot.

If they really put their hearts to it, the prince of persia will revive their studio like how god of war and resident evil 7 did. Ubisoft is sitting on such great potential since such a long time. Prince of persia is a title which already has a very good story, fan base and fan loyalty. With less but careful work it will be on the top. It just needs god of war treatment.

I hope that the remake is still in development. I loved the original game from 2003. It was a PS2 staple for me, and I would love to play it on modern consoles. I did find the visuals in the remake quite lacklustre, but it does look like it'll be faithful to the original

I remember my cousin played an old parkour game. This was probably it. I was playing Grand turismo on ps1 at that time. Was very young/little. I hope will be not cancelled cause I want to play this for the first time. Story seems pretty cool. Also loved 2010 movie.

WELP, we got a brand new Prince of Persia game -- The Lost Crown!

it is June 09 and what we got on the summer fest announcement is a new Prince of Persia... but not the remake. Instead it's a platformer 2.5D game. 💀

Been playing new Zelda, and that rewind mechanic got me thinking about this remake.

I just dont know how a game can from "Releasing soon" to 2 years later and no definite release date. If the game was ready to launch what could they possibly have needed to make the game work? A few brushed up face models was all the game needed.

I play video games because of the first ever Prince of Persia. I played all of them and I agree with some comments below to the effect that some of the previous games have been "criminally" underrated and overlooked, as @KadeemG61 said. The PoP Trilogy was a blast for me and I can't wait for The Lost Crown to be released!!!

I had the 2008 Prince of Persia but didn't play it through because of the mechanic where the assistant would save you any time you fell off a ledge or didn't make a jump so you never died. I know I'd just have started from the previous checkpoint so there was no real jeopardy, but removing even the minor threat of going back to a checkpoint if you timed a jump wrong just took away any sense of peril or satisfaction from traversing obstacles successfully which was one of my favourite things about sands of time.

Funny how ubisoft didn't want an assassin to star in a PoP game and let the devs work on this idea whereas now assassins barley star in AC & every irrelevant mechanics and shoved into it

Prince of Persia Warrior within was the best. Honestly wish sands of time, warrior within and two thrones got remade. Classics

Warrior Within was a jaw dropping game. Sad that ubisoft completely lost focus on pop games and are now milking the Ac franchise.

And now after seeing the trailer for the new Prince if Persia game, I'm wondering what's happened to Prince of Persia in general.

I don't think I've seen any game I've been looking forward to go through this troubled a production. Got an announcement trailer and a release date not too long after, and now they're starting over from scratch.

Prince of Persia Warrior Within & The Two Thrones was one of the best experience in gaming.

It's a shame this franchise is stuck with ubisoft. The universe and its lore are very rich and it could have a god of war like reboot to get back to its heights

I was in middle school when Warrior within came out and man that game was the shit! Maybe some of you young fellas are unaware of how big 2000's Prince of Persia used to be.

One of my friend works there, he told that trailer got so much bad publicity that main usa office deleted all access to indian offices and said now they would lead the project, it was later announced it would be delayed or cancelled as low response could kill the franchise

PSP and Wii versions of The Forgotten Sands and two different stories set in different timelines, also different form the mainline version from X360, PS3 and PC. I also like how you talk about Anvil engine being designed for open-world and show the footage from games made on totally different engines.

Approximately 10 years ago i used to love play WW and all the series. I think specially POP Warrior within is still the best of all the POP series.I wish they remake this game too.

I remember seeing the adds for the original game and thinking wow I want this game . Funny story when I got my PS2 it came with prince of Persia but I had forgotten what it was called so on my first play for like 5 mims and thought this isn't very good so I didn't play it for a couple of months till I see the add again and then realised what game it was and what a great game series it was

I have a personal theory that somewhere in the delay, They realised that this remake is more anticipated by the fans than they expected and deserves a proper remake.

Ubisoft indian team messed it up so such that Montreal team is still in Shock.

Started replaying the 2003 original so they can take their time. It’s still just as good as it ever was.

I'm looking forward to see the new and improve dahaka, hope it gives that same feeling of pressure, fear and desperation like WW- "I stand alone".

Loved the franchise, especially warrior within. The fight mechanics massively improved, not to mention the thrill of being chased by the Dahaka. A remaster would be great, but a proper remaster of the likes of resident evil and not just fan service.

We, old fans, are probably all happy just playing the old versions. I swear warrior within still feels like the same fun as it was, yeah Dahaka doesnt scare me to death anymore but i'll still replay it breathlessly

Ubisoft couldn't figure out how to put microtransactions or 1000 collectibles with markers in such a linear game without a map screen.

Hitman, PoP, Splinter Cell, BGE.. damn, half of my childhood memories are Eidos and Ubisoft game. It is sad that the project was snatched from the Indian team, who could've brought a unique and authentic take on the games given that the first game is set in the backdrop of ancient India. Something like accurate historical figures, lore or native tongue like hindi/tamil/malyalam, clothing and traditions etc. being spoken and subtitled. Someday, perhaps, we'll have a documentary explaining why the decision was made. I'm still grateful that some executive at Ubisoft took a chance on this franchise.
