What Happened to this Multi-Award Honda? 

This car STILL looks great. Why can't they slap a bigger battery in it at a lower price and put it back on the market? They don't have the change the chassis AT ALL. The work is done, just give it a bigger range at a cheaper price and people will be all over it.

i have one and have been running it for nearly 4 years - 40K miles - reliable and perfect commuter car, for 50 mile daily commute - charge most nights in garage. Great driving dynamics and great to park and manoeuvre in the city. I love it but agree with others about overprices and to little range in comparison with competition. The digital wing mirrors are fab aswell.

Such a shame Honda didn't price the car more competitively, if available in Australia and more competitive in the market we would have bought one as our second car. It ticks all other boxes, size, handling, style, tech and Honda backing. Hardly surprising to hear that 12,000 is all they sold. Surely every car was at a loss then, given development costs. They could have priced it lower, sold many thousands more and covered the costs...

the only problem was the price !

It might have sold well if a) it didn't cost a fortune, b) it had acceptable range. Sadly it was neither, and on top of that Honda is only second to Toyota for attempting to sow FUD about EVs. So I suspect it was sent out to die so Honda could proclaim "nobody wants EVs" as opposed to "nobody wants *our* EVs".

That car should have been built down to a price point (like original Civic). Traditional mirrors, gear selector, light & fun... it was almost there, almost. Started too expensive. (Think what the Spring is now doing, but with a real style to it).

Honda lost money on every one of them they sold.

I wish they would contonue this with 2nd edition, bit better range, and faster charge would be enough. Ok little bit cheaper would be nice as well.

What's the problem to lower price, increase range of bigger cars, and try to sell it again??

This car always looked cool to me but the price and range were dealbreakers

The Chinese should rip off the Honda e design and produce it for half the price.

So annoying. I saw one at a charging station. It was super cool. It was overpriced and the battery was too small, but the design was fantastic.

The E got Honda excellent press coverage, as it was a very cool car I was at the local dealership before they knew anything about it But Honda deliberately priced it out of the market You can't explain it otherwise It got nowhere, but expensive ! Short range, and even less in winter, that you could buy @ just over half the price (VW e-up!) No boot and no magic seats either, as the rear bench was one piece It's also a strict 4 seater, but so was my VW up! though that had at least something resembling a boot The range ... well, my VW eco up! had a similar range on CNG though it "recharged" a lot faster ... that might work out if I charged it daily The day they announced the price, I unsubscribed from their newsletter and mailing / waiting list

Half the price and double the range and it is a winner!

it's cute, if it was 1 litre petrol it would've sold well. Or at least hybrid/mild hybrid.

Here in Canada, we were all over the smart car when it arrived, we were fully into it way more than our American neighbours who only like large pick up trucks and huge s.u.v.'s. Canada would have been all over that Honda. Even if overpriced and limited range, it would have sold like hotcakes just for the cool factor. Not selling it here was a missed opportunity I believe for Honda.

Bought a two year old low mileage demo car to be my daily driver. Haven’t regretted it for a second. The farthest I drive on a regular basis (no more than once a month) is 120 km. Fits my needs perfectly. Coolest EV to date, nothing even comes close! Can’t wait to see what Honda’s 0 series EVs will bring to the table.

Got one and its great. Dont understand why so few of these driving around. Price and range yes, but Electric mini has slightly more range and its not cheap too, but thousands of them driving around. In many aspects the Honda is way better then the mini, RWD, Interieur etc. I think the Honda is just ahead of its time and people usually dont buy products Like this, people wanna go the safe way instead of trying something new.

The Honda e Prototype shown at Geneva Auto-show was build after they already build the final model of the Honda e. The other way around from what's normally expected.......... I've used the Honda e several times, anice car, a fun car, but, for me, not enough room inside, seating position bad, lacking boot space, to expensive ( 40k in my country), electric system not efficient enough at 19~20 kw/100km Sorry Honda, like most of Your cars, You clearly didn't nail it, again.......... Still, every time I see a Honda e, espacially a blue one, I want one......

Unfortunately this Honda e is too expensive for a small electric car. It might've been ok if it was launched as an Acura brand. As a Honda brand esp. as a small car, it's simply too expensive.

Honda missed the point with this one. I said it as soon as I saw the price. It needed to be affordable. And it could have been much more affordable. Remove all those screens, put normal rear view mirrors. After all, you are playing a card on retro style, so use cheap but proven retro parts. If it was 25000€, it would have been sold much much better.

I don't get why people seem to cite the 'average commute less than x miles' spin when advocating for EVs like single travel/single day range is the only issue for range anxiety. In the real world, most people are not going to be charging their EVs overnight every day or whathave you. In the real world, life is messy, people are spontaneous, people are busy and people are also lazy. Yes, there are regimented or uptight people who will plan everything out, cross their t's and dot their i's and will fastidiously charge their EVs every day / every other day even if they don't have access to chargers at home or work, but for the rest of us we might say come home from work Friday, make food, drive to the gym and back etc then veg out. Come Saturday, we want to go into the city, to friends or go for a hike etc but NOW we have to secure and/or wait for EV charging first, or drive there on lower charge and hope things will work out, or just not do it at all because it's too complicated to juggle. In a gasoline or hybrid car, you just fuel up. It's an extra 5 to 10 minutes on your journey, its no big deal and it doesn't damage your car to fill it up quickly either. That 'crap I'm low on gas' moment is more an annoyance than an outright inconvenience. Plus, charging indoors, be that in a parking garage or especially home garage overnight is an unacceptable fire risk considering this is when a fire is most likely to happen, and it will almost certainly be left unattended. But charging outdoors via extension cables or trailing a cable along the street is obviously a massive hazard in it's own right. I hope we can find a good solution for this, or the technology somehow matures enough this is no longer an issue. Physics and infrastructure wise, larger capacity means longer charge times and/or greater power delivery, these are hardly solutions for everyday people and there is no way public/private infrastructure such as fast charge stations are going to be able to provide it soon in a way that sales to the majority of drivers using EVs AND expecting ultra fast charging. Who in the hell wants charge rationing where you can only charge for 15 minutes or to 50% etc. That's a BS solution, and again another reason people are not going for EVs in the numbers 'predicted' by EVangelists.

BYD Seagull is a great representation of how far Chinese EVs have come in terms of price and quality. Starting at $9,700 and the new BYD Dolphin EV starts at $13,900

Looks like a clown car. I'm not surprised it failed. The modern/futuro l9ok is hideous on cars... see ioniq and cyberthing as the most egregious examples, and you can throw rivian and even that ugly AF ford bronco 8n the mix. Utter garbage. I'm glad I'm at an age where I will never have to drive an EV. It's at least 20-30 years out, so I can keep driving real cars and trucks until I die.
