@kenstevens5065 Myself, I don't think of these people as "losing their home". For that description I think of well meaning folks who maybe lost jobs and probably also had big medical bills. You know the sort of stereotypical homeless family or single mom fallen on hard times living out of a station wagon while trying desperately for a hand up! No these are hard core addicts who GAVE UP EVERYTHING for a fix!

On the streets, the slang term for what causes people to hunch over is known as the "dope fiend lean". What causes the hunched over effect comes from opiods ability to cause severe respiratory depression. This respiratory depression, along with a number of other mechanisms that happen in the brain when one uses opiods, causes them to nod out. Nodding out is an uncontrollable, automatic reaction that forces a conscious user under the influence to involuntarily fall asleep. If someone is standing when this occurs, they are basically falling asleep while awake, if that makes any sense. What causes them to be hunched over instead of just falling is because they are still semi-conscious. This causes the person to exert enough force to remain standing.
Thank god we have video like these so we can all make sympathetic noises and feel good about ourselves while we congratulate each other about how we are not like those animals. Nimby!

I am more and more torn, of course when you see so many scenes of life at this miserable point you can only be annoyed, but on the other hand the first people in charge are indeed themselves, no one has attached them for inject them by force until they become addicted, they are the ones who put themselves in this situation on purpose, especially since the ravages of tranq are well known
It amazes me how many people think this is just addiction and do not understand this is about severe mental and physical disabilities, as well as extreme poverty. Some people say "They should just get a job", Yet none of those people are willing to give them one. As far as the addiction, I would probably turn to drugs too, as it would be the only escape from living this miserable life, other than death.

The mayor needs to get in there buy up some of those closed down businesses open them up for shelters get ppl in there off the street ,get the street sweepers out there clean up the freekin place ,there must be funds.
Shelter is not going to make them stop. Use your brain. They will not stay at the shelter. They will be on the sidewalk acting like a zombie. Try another solution, the kissing their ass method is a proven failure.
First solution is for anyone caught with Zylazine to be locked up for 20 years. After they make it illegal to begin with. The Tranq is a legal substance. That's a problem.

Some people have tents, some have tarps made into lean-to's. The problem isn't a lack of housing. The problem is they are addicted. Many suffer from mental health issues. Shelter won't fix that. Illegal drugs flood into our country by the truckloads and no one seems to care about what it is doing to our people. I am French. What scares me is that the rest of the world has learned nothing from the opioid crisis in the United States. History repeats itself. Under the pretext of fighting pain, French doctors are prescribing more and more opioids for the slightest pain. Two days ago I was in the emergency room for a broken finger and I was prescribed some, yet I said that I wasn't in too much pain and that I didn't want it. Of course, I won't take them. Opioids / opiates must remain for the terminal phases and / or chronic pain without the possibility of remission, it is not complicated! It was like that before. This stupid modern paradigm of medicine that wants to eradicate pain is the cause of all this. The situation in Kesington and all this shit comes from there. This year I lost two friends because they got too addicted and I can't trust them anymore. For the moment in France, the situation remains hidden, we are only at the beginning. But the same phenomenon is on the way.
I have read in the comments people who are looking for their family members. One comment a year or so ago was someone looking for their mother. They thanked kimgary for making the videos and that they watched every day hoping to see their mother. That really gutted me. I cannot being a child (even an adult child) and not knowing where my mother was or if she were alive or dead.

Don't be fooled....a lot of these people get checks that are larger than what working people in some countries make in a whole year. They just buy more drugs.
