Yes and then you have the fact that people get incredibly anxious and immensely irritable without tobacco which in turn causes catastrophic hostile results. That's exactly what caught my attention! He's not doing this to get rich.. he could charge more than 2/3$ to the prisons if that were the case... he understands they're human beings and they're going thru a lot and to expect someone just to up and change many addictive behaviors/habits all at once is to expect them to be superhuman while subjecting them to living in inhumane conditions; as is the case in countless jails/prisons...with sub-par Healthcare... if any...etc...etc.... the list goes on. @lauriewalsh420 2 года назад
I have to say he sounds like such a very respectful man who really just cares about the temperament of his prisoners and how that affects them in their recovery and rehabilitation. The first thing they tell you when you go to rehab is to not quit smoking cigarettes at the same time because mentally and physically we have a lot of growing to do and it doesn't happen overnight. But when cigarettes are cut from us just like that, due to our own actions, we do get angry and we do act out subconsciously and that could lead to more charges. I understand the whole accountability is on the prisoner who acts out but I believe this man's heart was in the right place by doing what he did. We can find fault in almost anything and if that man becomes wealthy because he created something good for the men that he takes care of, then so be it.

The thing is would you buy cigs that are contraband and risk going to the hole and lose all your privileges in prison or buy a vape and not risk shit and still get that nicotine that keeps you going through the day. This is the problem with guys who never been to jail or prison. Nicotine is the saving grace when serving time and well many people kill for cigarettes in prison where you can't get any nicotine legaly. Cigarettes is the second most valueable thing after dried noodles. Drugs are the third. So yeah nothing gay about not wanting to get put in isolation or a penal cell when you already serving time. Isolation and penal cells are the literal embodiment of hell on hearth you get out max an hour sometimes guards cheat you of your rectime and you don't get to go out at all and you are stuck there alone in a grey fucking concrete box that only seems to get smaller with each hour it breaks even the hardest mother fuckers when put in the hole for a long time.

That's downright genius. Nicotine addiction is basically 2 weeks to 2 months of absolute insanity. Prison riots have happened over cigarettes being taken away. The more the interviewee tries to talk around the question or sounds defensive, the less likely they are to be genuine and vice versa. It's not a matter of "treating him as the bad guy", it's asking important questions that anybody should be thinking about in a situation like this and giving the man a chance to directly defend himself...or hang himself with the rope you gave him. He should have to let other e-cigarette companies offer their products at the jail at least. Then you'd have people saying all jails should have ecigs. Then you'll have people saying why ecigs but you can't have a cigarette. Lmao butterfly effect. I think he had good intentions, but sees the money in it. I served time in VBCC Virginia were they sold these and they cause more fights, extortion, and theft then any other commissary item. Only the jail has to put its profits back into the system. It said nothing about the company putting its profits into the system. The video said that the ecigs are purchased from the company at 2-3 dollars and sold at 12-15 dollars to the inmates. All of those profits should go to funding inmate programs, but knowing the corruptness of the American "corrections" system, it's probable that it doesn't actually work that way. Regardless, that has nothing to do with what the company itself makes. They might manufacture these ecigs for 50 cents each and be making huge profits. Those profits are completely his. Therefore, he is earning money from it and you are completely wrong. By the way, even if the jail wasn't putting the profits it makes back into its own budget, it wouldn't be his money because the jail's profits aren't his (unless there is corruption). No, he wouldn't have been able to leave and sell the ecigs to other jails for higher prices if he had left. What makes you think that was an option? It seems that institutions have been extremely skeptical of his products since only 33 of them have opted in. Every jail and prison works by selling their commissary at extremely high markups. They sell individual ramen noodle packs for $1 or more. Do you really think the prisons are paying much more than what grocery stores pay for them? I have no problem with inmates having access to nicotine. I do have a problem with inmates being taken advantage of because they have no other options. As a person who was a correctional officer for three years at a Maximum Security Prison, I can tell you this say fucking fantastic idea. You don't know the stress a man goes through when he loses everything, and that little cigarette can feel like his only source of escape and Hope. The thing is if they don't get those e-cigarettes or going to find tobacco in the prison. Pretty much everything that you find on the street you can find in the prison, just that extremely accelerated prices. I can't tell you how many people get extorted over tobacco prices and things of that nature because they owe money. This seems like a fantastic idea and I wish more facilities would listen to this

Reporter is being pretty douchey. He clearly has no idea how difficult it is to be a drug addict and be forced to deal with WD and PAWS without nicotine, let a lone be in prison. Jailer or not, he did a great thing here. He took something that could have been contraband, and turned it into a way for inmates to relieve their stress, at least for a little while. He can be an entrepreneur or a capitalist all day, but it doesn't change the fact that without him doing this, inmates would still have to hustle cigarettes and nicotine gum, which leads to extended sentences, and is a huge burden on the inmates, the police that have to deal with it, and the taxpayers who pay for their stay. He is taking something many of you young folks see as "he's making money off prisoners" and turned it into giving prisoners what they want, at the cost of parts+labor and a small fee. $2 can be gained by many inmates doing a lot of things, from hustling ramen and ketchup packets, to writing for those who can't read. Know this. This is a good thing, for everybody. Not just one man. Don't believe me? Ask the prisoners how they would feel if they took away their ecigs that they just got because you think they're being exploited. Ask them. Go down and ask someone from GenPop what they think. Because I know what they would think.

Kind of annoying that they kept trying to make the jailer look like an evil person trying to capitalize on these inmates. I personally think this is wonderful, one it lifts the morale of the inmate. Helps keep tension down so that the workers are safer as well as other inmates. And he's not making any money off of it, it goes right back into making sure the jail is as good as it can be which then benefits the prisoners. People often forget that the whole point of jail is to rehabilitate people, almost all the jails in this country treat people like animals and then just turn them loose back into society expecting them to do anything good or positive. I applaud this man's efforts and I think more jails and prisons should copy what he's doing! 👏🏼👍🏻

5:27 it's amazing what NOT arcing up at a question can do for your reputation as a non-narcissistic non-ego-driven person that people can get on board with.

Don't find anything wrong with them asking him those questions, he should always have those in the back of his mind with a captive audience like that. I think he means well, but he's also contributing to a system that grossly abuses a very vulnerable population, and getting a skewed perspective on their needs vs the problems the system adds to their incarceration is all too easy. I hope he stays on what appears to be a righteous path.

I was locked up. You'd have to explain to most the other inmates what an instagram is. Most of us just know MMA because we've had to use it.
