I had 25 radiation treatments. I made sure I was always cleaned out and full bladder. Very minimal side effects. Thank God!

Used to hate it when I got ready, machine started whirring and 5 minutes later, staff come in and say "sorry your bladder's not full enough" and I'd have to drink some more, wait in the cubicle, bursting to go, praying they'd call me ASAP. Never had problem clearing my bowels before so was free of gas. Overall v grateful for NHS treatment having had chemo, TURP, hormone injections as well as radiotherapy. The burning after urination and peeing up to 20 times a day were side effects after radiotherapy but now that a month has elapsed these have ceased. Just waiting for follow up consultation with oncologist to give outcome of PSA test.

@geraldwalsh6489 I hope everything went well for you. I was treated in St. Luke's Rathgar in 2017. I had 39 radiation therapy sessions in addition to hormone treatment prescribed by the oncologist. The staff couldn't have been nicer. I experienced the following side effects - fatigue and frequent urges to empty my bladder and bowels. The bowel issue settled down after about 6 weeks but the bladder took much longer. Even now, over 6 years later when I've got to go, I've got to go. But it's much better than it was directly after therapy. Fatigue was the worst and I've never fully recovered my strength. My oncologist dismissed my concerns at each follow by telling me I was just getting older. I'm a very keen cyclist but had to stop competing in races as I couldn't do it anymore. I was depressed, my hair was thinning, my breathing was stressed when training with other cycling friends and my strength simply wasn't returning even though my testosterone level had recovered. Why do I tell you all this? Well, in desperation I went to my GP 9 months ago after years getting no satisfactory answers from the oncologist. My GP ran blood tests and found that I was seriously deficient in vitamin D. I've been taking vitamin D3 supplements ever since and experienced dramatic changes for the better within a month of starting the course. My depression lifted, my breathing improved, my hair loss reversed and I became stronger. I'm not as strong as before but in a better place. Apparently, most people living in northern climes are deficient in vitamin D. So I recommend getting a vitamin D test next time you have your bloods done. I've now been signed off into the care of my GP. He checks my bloods Including PSA twice a year and I'm doing great. Best wishes and good health on your own journey.

well this will extend my life but what good is that? I've already outlived a lot of friends, those who I associated with that would have me around. Am 10 of 28 treatmebs so far keeping the bowel empty and bladder full as they require as best I can.

In the notorious CROSS CASTRATION INSTITUTE, they don't inform us about SPACEOAR, and don't use gold markers But they try like hell to permanently tattoo us like concentration camp inmates. Ok, why is it called “RADIOTHERAPY “? Radio waves are way too long to be focused on a square inch or less target! To me, I imagine the term should probably be RADIATION therapy. The wavelength of even GIGAHERTZ Radio waves is about 11.803 inches at 1 GIGAHERTZ (in free space).

I had three women in the room for my biopsy. While embaraasing for me,for them its just a routine part of their job. At the end of the day,they are helping to save our lives,(free of charge,i may add), so we should just put up with any embarassment! Besides,Irish medical staff are so great....very helpful,pleasant,etc.,and they dont look bad either!!

What - no women near you? I was looked after by several wonderful, kind and considerate girls for the 8 weeks of my treatment. Where else in the world do you get the chance to take down your pants in a room full of women 5 days a week and not be arrested 😂😂😂. A cancer diagnosis is a dark and lonely experience but those girls were so considerate that I wasn't remotely embarrassed.

Every person I know who had radiotherapy for cancer had hidious side effects and that is why I've refused it. My medical team don't agree with my decision and they have tried (with my wife) to bully me into having treatment.

I have had 30 of 45 external beam treatments with minimal side effects. I am over 70, am playing and coaching tennis and working 4 days per week. I did not tolerate the testosterone blocker. Every case is different. If my Gleason was one click lower I would be on observation.

I also had 25 fractions of IMRT in November 2022 with no significant side effects except no ejaculate as expected. ..But I was coerced and deceived into getting one shot of ELIGARD with their planned 2 years of ADT. THE ALBERTA CROSS CASTRATION INSTITUTE never fully informed me about the horrific quality of life destroying and life threatening side effects, and withheld the fact that up to twenty percent of older men NEVER RECOVER ABOVE CASTRATE LEVEL The ADT CASTRATION effects were so INSUFFERABLE that I refused any further injections of this toxic shit. I was never given any options or Information about less harmful ADT meds such as Bicaludamide monotherapy or Orguvyx pills. Now, even six months after that ELIGARD expired, I remain well below castrate level with little hope of ever recovering. .....The treatment was more like concentration camp experimentation than anything close to patient centered care or shared decision making. Coerced CASTRATION without full disclosure is CRIMINAL ASSAULT CAUSING GRIEVOUS BODILY HARM

What treatment did you use?x
@robwells230
@robwells230 10 месяцев назад
@@wormsnake1 I had 25 fractions of IMRT.at the CROSS CANCER INSTITUTE in Edmonton Alberta Canada. No SpaceOAR, and no fiducial gold seeds, and I even refused tattoo marks. Instead of tattoos, they just used four sharpie black dots with a clear sticker over each mark. I was careful to protect the marks in showers, and they worked just fine. .....I refused to be forcefully tattooed like an Auchwitz inmate, and it was easier for all concerned. ....My radiation was extremely easy, no lasting side effects, and short term, only lost some pubic hair that grew back, no noticeable fatigue. If course, dry ejaculation soon after as I was told which is expected in both surgery and radiation. Nothing to be embarrassed about as didn't need to undress or expose privates as I simply wore elastic waisted gym pants and only needed to slide pants down just a bit to expose marks on pubic bone and top of hips. All in all, a comfortable and relaxed experience.
