What Happens at an Asylum Interview?

Dear Mr. Hacking First of all thank you for your very useful videos You mentioned the subject of religion here when somebody can be persecuted because of his religion in his homeland but what if somebody is an atheist and has no religion at all and lived in a country that being a non-believer to religion is a crime that can be punished by death penalty? Can this be an acceptable reason to get asylum? And a second question I would have liked to ask you about is that if somebody is seeking asylum to escape mandatory military service in his own country where the armed forces back there commit war crimes or human rights violation and he is afraid to be forced into being involved in such actions if he goes to military service there, can he ask for asylum in USA and is this an acceptable reason to obtain asylum there?
