I think a big part of the reason they still think that is because the Hero of Kavatch kind of dissapeared from the history books.

@@SHDW-nf2kiis there anything mentioned in Skyrim about the Hero of Kvatch? I don’t remember. Which is weird because Oblivion makes reference to the Neraverine going off to explore Akavir so it’s not like they completely eliminate other protagonists from history after every game.

You can only get them if you take them from the statues, before they hit the ground. You have to kill them & loot them as they fall. Otherwise, the weapons turn to dust. If you’ve been able to pick them up off the floor & not have them disintegrate, you’re doing good.

Heya, great question. The lighting is really horrid in Oblivion. ESPECIALLY in conversations. Torchlight the spell is too artificial so, I use a torch to counteract it.

Well the guy who did the writing for the Dark Brotherhood questline in Oblivion is the guy they picked to oversee all of Skyrim's writing, so of course the version of the Thieves Guild would be more thuggish in nature. There are a ton of narrative problems with that guild, though, especially in how hard it railroads you (even by Skyrim's standards it's heavy-handed) and relies a lot on Mercer being essentially inept as a villain for him to lose.

@@ForeverLaxx I dunno. I never got that from it. I mean yes it's Skyrim so the conclusions of quests are pre-determined in general. It's not as badly railroaded as say, Oblivion's quests in general and nothing about it really offended me personally... though I understand it did for others. Like... take the quest to find out Mercer's Plans after he cut and run. They tell you to check out Riftweld Manor which is logical enough. Well known figure in the Guild they'd know where he was holding out. Which leads to finding a way to deal with the guy in the back. Which can involve a variety of options from luring him out to talking him down to a little sidequest to find a treasure. Manor itself is an okay short dungeon that doesn't outlive it's usefulness with a combination of enemies to deal with and higher than average traps compared to non-thieves' guild locations. With some bonus treasures to find along the way if you're in that larcenous mood. Which sure all roads lead to you ending with the plans and escaping into the sewers. But they gave you some variety in the middle. Which is something I always got out of it and was very refreshing compared to say... the Companions which I felt was a lot more restrictive between the forced werewolf curse, linear dungeons, and lack of options outside of choosing to cure yourself or not at the end. I think based on most I've seen though the make or break point was always the Radiant Quest jobs. I... liked them. I don't think Radiant Quests are a bad idea, just most of the game used them in a bad way. Like the College of Winterhold and Dark Brotherhood used Radiant Quests as "End of the line filler". Which is anticlimatic and boring. But doing small jobs, contracted work, etc? Fits right in with the low level content side of it. Jobs are quick and easy enough (even if you're locked out of fast travel due to being centralized around locations connected to the carriage network). Felt good to get the Special Jobs, see the Guild restored bit by bit with new merchants, new recruits. All of which was optional of course. And the fact that while they do name you "Guild Master" it felt a lot more deserved in there requiring you to nearly 100% everything Thief Guild to do, recognized as the one running the show. As opposed to something like Arch Mage or Harbringer that always felt more hollow as my only real qualifications were "Beat the guy at the end of the line". Just odd thoughts. I don't think Skyrim's Thieves' Guild is the worst in Skyrim. I don't even think it's bad. I think it does what it set out to do well. Better than I got from Oblivion's Guild (or Morrowind's really) where they kind of tack on the final conflict late in the line, most of the tasks on the way had little to do with anything (even post hoc reveal). Could it be better? Oh sure. Though I think it's one of the least "railroaded" quest lines in Skyrim while also promoting being what you are supposed to be (something others like the Companions and College both failed at. I didn't feel like an Honorable Noble Warrior or Wizened Scholar. I felt like the brute sent to solve their problems by any means necessary).

@@hitomisalazar4073 You can literally fail every step of the Thieves Guild questline that's failable and still become the Guild Master in Skyrim. While the other guilds in Skyrim have their own issues and workarounds (such as becoming Archmage despite knowing zero personal magic spells thanks to certain magic items letting you bypass some checks), you at least have to actually succeed in all their tasks to advance. With the Thieves Guild, you can do everything wrong and still be catapulted to the leadership position. At least Oblivion had a failure state that kicked you out and prevented re-entry.
