I love how half of this set's story boils down to "Oko is a shitty absentee father." Lmao

Re: why is Thunder Junction wired into the relay network? It has a lot of stable omenpaths, which not all planes can say. Most omenpaths keep going in and out and moving. Because of this stability, it makes it a perfect candidate to connect to other planes.

I think what you might have been getting at with how huge Okko’s gang was and how nameless the antagonists were, is something I thought about as well… why not split this team into two and give half to Akul? Then you can even have a thing where you match up both teams in a fight.

What’s even crazier about the dead being reanimated is..there on a plain where supposedly no one has ever been and the only humanoid creatures we see from the plain are the cactai people. So where’d all the bodies come from in the middle of no where?

I check in on the lore a few times a year and its crazy they never get better at writing.

I haven't been following the Magic story closely and was so confused at first when I saw so many random non-planeswalker characters in this set.

I already loved Tinybones since I opened him from the first Jumpstart set. This story finally having him in it as a major player in each of the scenes was just the best. I love the little guy so so much! And then Rakdos is just like “LITTLE CREATURE MAKE ME LAUGH” and he flies off into the sunset with Tinybones on his back (after vehemently saying that no one will ever ride on his back ever again from leaving the vault). I just need some sort of Rakdos and Tinybones misadventures story and I will have had everything I desire.

This channel is the reason I started reading the story chapters as they come out, but I still always have to stop by and hear you go over it in one complete video

You missed Annie, whose specific power is to see through illusions, not seeing through Ashiok-Jace until convenient for the story.

I have honestly been really exhausted by mtg, dnd, Wotc. And the whole 9. But gosh i just LOVE your channel. I will spend all my mtg money on patreons and stuff. I love that i can still find easy, fun, enjoyable content on a hobby that makes me otherwise sad. These stories are quite fun tbh

Great video as always. If I could request a topic: the whole 'Jace was always Ashiok' story beat is still very strange. I dont hate it, but this didn't feel like much of a reveal. Would you do a side by side lore recap for Jace and Ashiok where you (attempt to) interpret why Jace acted as Ashiok throughout the story?

also, don't forget that all of this only happened after the omen paths appeared; so post phyrexia. as the plane was mostly empty before, so they found the vault, build the town, dug a quary, and forgot about it in like 2 years max

In terms of the floating vault Vs the art... Well the prison is mentioned being at the bottom of a quarry, and if you look at the art the vault does seem to be free standing over a huge pit except for a single bridge. My guess is Tarnartion is built into the quarry that is *under* the vault, thus the vault is floating over the town.

I love that this whole time Rakdos was more than capable of just soloing the Hellspurs and their boss but didn't, probably enjoying all the Chaos, I don't know if they specifically mention it in the story, but I doubt he's there for some monetary reward, Rakdos is 100% only there for fun.

I had a question while reading the story. What happened to Kellan's Wicker Hilts that he used to use as his weapons? In the story they say he can just conjure weapons and vines of magic, so clearly he doesn't use them anymore, but that growth is never actually referenced in story. On his card art and promotional images he uses very similar weapons that seem to be made of the same material as the Thunder Rifles across the plane, but he also never picks those up either. It just seems strange to me that the items so synonymous with his character design that were a gift from a fae lord on his home plane were something he'd just... toss aside with no explanation. If they're trying to go for a whole "he's strong enough now that he doesn't need them" then there are two instances in the story where we see Kellan's abilities develop, the duel with Akul and the escape from the vault. In both of these places he could have lost his weapons then developed the ability to fight without them at the same time he began cultivating his hypnosis.

For a barren world, Thunder Junction is sure packed with people.

Can we all agree that regardless of what it is or how it happened, the Wild West theme of the setting demands that the phenomenon that gave us Jace/Ashiok can only be called Reintarnation?

Tinybones was the star of the stories for me. Basically every interaction with him and especially rakdos was great. Rakdos telling Tinybones one last ride was great.

One thing I don't get - why the double cross at the end? Vraska is both a successful pirate captain and a former queen. _She can afford to pay people for a job._ In fact, Ixalan makes a big deal about how well she treats her people. Also lost locations are bizarre to me, since this place apparently had no civilization before the Omenpaths (given that the vault is the ONLY structure from before then). How is there a town people have forgotten the location of with an old abandoned quarry? I know they're was a time skip, but it wasn't 10+ years.

Anybody else mention that Gisa does tell us where the corpses for zombies come from? She says something like "Dang there are a lot of dead people on this plane" or some other character does, my memory is trash.

I think it would have been cool and added to the menace of Akul if the city used to be the city build by these dragon scorpions, and they were supposed to defend the vault, but he got rid of them and took the city. But yes, pretty basic story, but I fell the set is cool, hope the pre release is fun! Thanks for the resumed story!

All this talk of vaults and keys makes me want a Borderlands UB set

Finally! thank you for a great video again! I am feeling conflicted about much of what WoTC is doing with the story... like, Oko loved his human wife so much he did all that crap in Eldraine and now just backstabs his kid? I mean, sure, Kellen is a bit too "human" with all the empathy and crap, but still... I also agree with the amount of legendaries in this set... what the hell is Marchesa doing there? did something happen in FIora? Can Rakdos just LEAVE Ravnica?! Eriette is there, then where is the true Ashiok?! sigh...

I quite enjoyed the story - it was nothing exceptional but I found it pretty fun to read and compact, although I share the problem with the size of Oko's gang. I especially liked Kellan's interactions with his dad, I'm almost wandering if he couldn't have gone from Eldraine right to Thunder Junction (with the two other sets still in between, they would just focus on the actual planes and not Kellan, who from what I've heard didn't do anything significant there) and it would have felt more coherent. The epilogues though... Oh my, those were beautiful.

I'm a little sad it didn't turn out that Jace was still compleated and planeswalking around the multiverse gathering or tending to glistening oil remaining in each plane. Could've been a way to bring the phyrexians back as an ominous background threat.

Also, super missed opportunity, not having Annie Flash tutor for Fortune. That would a great Lone Ranger homage.

The plothole that bothes me the most is what's Oko paying his team with to convince them to work for him. Most of the crew doesn't come off as "working for someone" type and even then it's not like there is some universal multiverse currency they would be in need of.

I, as a lot of people out there, was turned off by the goofy nature of the set aka "let's put everybody in a cowboy hat for no reason" and "let's bring these people totally not connected to each other just because". So I didn't read it. But it turns out, the story is even not that bad (still far from perfect, but beggars can't be choosers in Magic lore community). Thank you for covering this story

Hopefully in the epilogues they explain how Vraska and Jace are even alive and normal, given they needed to sacrifice someome to bring Ajani back to normal.

One of my big concerns about Magic storytelling going forward is fueled by the Omen Paths and exemplified with Thunder Junction. What Characters and plots contained within Thunder Junction itself are we interested in coming back to? Most of the cast of characters are from elsewhere in the multiverse and not contained in this world. Their grudges or motivations are led elsewhere which means if we come back to this plane its like starting from square one. I compare this to a plane like Zendikar. First time we were there we saw the devastating impact of the release of the Eldrazi. We came back and saw what had happened as a result of their release and what happened to the characters we were first introduced to amongst the chaos. Then on a third visit we see the world healing and how those characters have moved past the events. Thunder Junction just feels like a pitstop for characters and stories. Perhaps I am being short sighted but I dont see the potential excitement for a story on Thunder Junction again. :(

Theirs a lot of hints it's actually Jace. I was cool to look back and look for the clues.

At this point I've accepted that there's going to be plot holes in every set's sorry. Ranging from tiny and negligible, to gigantic and obvious.

The story was okay, but now I have no more roots left to toot and I'm ready for a serious set again.

In the middle of this insanity, there are a few lines from Gisa (can't remember if such was from the main story or Team Innistrad's side story) indicating that there are a "surprising amount of bodies." Whatever was on Thunder Junction prior to the Omenpaths (very likely the Fomori), they were prob so terrifying that the plane ultimately became uninhabitable. Jace and Vraska are playing with some serious power rn.

Maybe the real Big Score was the gang of enemies we made along the way...

I kind of get most of these B-listers being part of the group. but Rakdos is a parvn and Kaervek is like an ancient dominarian evil guy.

The "Big Score" cards were ment to be a part of an epilogue set like Aftermath for MoM. The backlash was so bad for Aftermath that WoTC decided to just add them to the main set. I'm sure there would have been lore for them but I have a feeling it was cut when the set was merged together.

WotC writers at the end: "Oh crap we forgot about Kellan's goth vampire gf"

Jace is going to use Loot to Golgothian Sylex the whole multiverse and create his version of a utopia.

nowdays i just don't seem to give to much of a damn about these new stories and characters, i no longer play arena and i just watch these videos because, 1: the narration is op, 2 i get to keep up with the story and see what happens to jayce and braska and eventually watch how they ruin the eldrazi return as the did with bolas and pyrexia, then i will be done for good. i have 0 faith. great vid =D

I feel like being completed wasn't as big a deal as we were led to believe. Ajani and nissa were "cured" at a great cost, and yet Jace, Vraska, and even Nahiri are just fine. Idk if any of this is explained in the epilogue, but it just seems weird. That being said, Jace is my favorite plainswalker. I was very doubtful they'd quietly kill him "off screen," and I'm glad to see i was right.

I love to think that Oko just doesn't want to pay child support.
