Hello and welcome to my channel. I am a train enthusiast and just want to share some of my journeys with RU-vid. Please feel free to Comment your opinions and Subscribe to my channel :)
In this video, we dive into the process of what happens to a Comeng once it is retired. This guideline covers what happens right from the moment a Comeng is getting retired, all the way to the moment it is getting ready to be scrapped. This video also covers the three Victorian locations where the Comeng get transferred to. These are Tottenham Yard (West Footscray), The McConnell Dowell Rail Plant (Sunshine North) and North Bendigo Workshops (East Bendigo). Hope you enjoy the video!

Great video, even though it is extremely sad to watch. They will definitely go down as the greatest suburban train Melbourne has ever had. If it were up to me they would remain in service for another 40 years.

comengs barely have a few years left in them with how out dated the equipment is in them. to put in perspective some parts were also used by the swing door and tait electrics of the early 20th century not to mention that the bodies of the comengs have been pushed to their absolute limit with 40 years of taking a beating for the oldest sets which is starting to show with more issues occurring for the sets still running than the newer trains
@StrayaTrains
@StrayaTrains Год назад
No doubt the reality. Train faults are much more common on lines that run Comeng on them. Still tho, they have done remarkable in their time

@@lachlansmith1522 And despite being 40 years old, they are still the nicest train to ride in on the Melbourne network and a lot better than some of the newer garbage. So much for progress. They could easily last another 40 years if they were properly maintaned, but as it has been decided to phase them out, the amount being spent on them has been cut and they are being deliberately neglected. If Taits lasted 60+ years with old wooden bodies then there is certainly no issue with stainless steel carriages that were built like tanks. As for the age of parts, another non issue. With all the technology available these days, any manufacturer could easily reproduce any part that is required.

Thank you for the detailed information on what exactly happens to a Comeng train after it has been withdrawn from service! As I've said in the past, the Comeng trains deserve more kindness after their days in service are over. I'm sure that if everyone knew about how much these trains have done for Melbourne, there would be nowhere near the amount of vandalism inflicted on retired Comeng sets. I do have one question, how do you know exactly when a Comeng set transfer will occur?
@StrayaTrains
@StrayaTrains Год назад
All good! Sadly people don't care. And idk really as there is no set time sadly

They do know how much they have done for melbourne, and that is what makes painting them all the more enjoyable. Being between the galvanized steel giants and painting them is a fantastic feeling and many of graffiti writers painting the trains are also gunzels (just in a vandal's world view, I suppose). I'm not condoning graffiti or some of the reckless vandalism like the windows smashing or fires, but I hope you understand where they are coming from a little bit
