A bit of a random one today, my fiat finally broke down properly, so I picked up the camera and filmed how the day unfolded and what it means when things hit the fan.... also what wrong with the fiat? is it terminal?

As a former employee of RAC, they are absolutely rubbish. They employ third-party contractors for most of the recoveries (and they pay the least for the service, hence the long waiting times) and if its long distance, the vehicles get link recoveries, so you end up waiting hours at motorway services for another contractor.
@thomaswilliams3472
@thomaswilliams3472 10 месяцев назад
Having worked in the recovery industry as one of the 3rd party contractors I agree. And then RAC are slow paying their bills so they go on stop with companies then the number of companies they use drops because they haven’t paid. To be fair it’s not just the RAC

Hi, in your opinion who is the better breakdown recovery service. Regards Gary.
@shammyali3895
@shammyali3895 10 месяцев назад
@@beaulocks68AA is better by miles, I've broken down three times in the past 2 months. First time my gearbox gave up in the countryside at around 11am... from the moment i reported the breakdown to the moment they got to me it took no more than 25 minutes. 2nd time broke down on the motorway in rush hour busy morning traffic towards Leeds at 8am. Got to the hard shoulder, reported the breakdown and again, no more than 25 minutes and the patrol was with me. 3rd time my crank pulley split in two pieces but i managed to pick up on it due to the smoke and burning rubber smell. Was luckily at a mates house so reported the breakdown due to me not being in a rush and already at my mates house in a safe location they took around 40 minutes which i didn't mind at all. The best thing is the AA parts and labour cover covered the cost of the Gearbox + labour AND the crank pulley + labour meaning i didn't have to pay a single penny

I don’t usually comment on videos but it’s good to get a little glimpse into the absolute graft it takes to run a business. I feel your pain 100% but I’d wager that this will actually put you in good stead as any potential customers now know that you’ll dig in and go that extra mile when the poop hits the fan. Great video mate!

I would say you have saved yourself around £3000-£3500 doing it yourself so that's worth smiling about. I would also normally replace the oil feed line and washers along with new oil and filter.Normally you have a syringe of oil with the new turbo to prime it as well, make sure you do that. Obviously you are going to clean the intake ect.. But well done on doing it yourself.

There needs to be someone present at the breakdown to sign the damage report before it’s recovered. Otherwise they’ll be liable if the customer tries blagging pre existing damage. Surely you do the same on your customers vehicles before you transport them?

Agree with others that this sort of occasional departure from your more usual but equally great content is no problem. The RAC are useless, my son brokedown on the M5 near Birmingham at 9am driving a Ford C-Max, with 3 children, his wife and his 76yr old nan, he was driving a Ford C-max which had a knackered injector, they basically abandoned him, and his passengers at a shopping centre ( just to get them off the motorway ), 1 of his children is Autistic and at the time was under 2yrs old, the same child is epileptic and has daily medication that has to be kept cool, which isnt a issue with a running car as my son has a fridge that plugs into the 12v charger in the car, but the issue was that the engine wouldnt run, and the car battery died trying to keep the medication cold, they where stranded for 12 hours before eventually the RAC got them a taxi back to South Wales ( while my son had to stay with the vehicle until 4am the next morning when they got another taxi to bring him back to South Wales ), the taxi did not have room for their luggage so they had to leave it with my son in the car, the RAC kept telling my son they would get him transport and he would leave the car keys on top of a wheel for the tow driver to use to load the car, my son refused to do this as at that time there a gang of kids ( teenagers 15-19yrs old or there abouts ) running around being a nuisance and did not want to leave the vehicle unattended with the keys not hard to find as it would have at the very least had items stolen from it or at worse burned or just vandalised, I kept getting in my car to go pick them up, get my son to drive my car back with the kids etc and I would have stayed with his car, but everytime he contacted the RAC they kept saying the driver will be with you in 20mins or is on the way, my son didnt want me to be halfway then for me to turn around, after this I cancelled my membership after being with the RAC for 16yrs and would never use them again.

Hey Dean, the AA is way better than the RAC, the RAC just don't turn up half the time. Also wouldn't mention about the Remap and dpf, for insurance and legally. Usually a turbo or clutch fails after remaps.
@StaticVapour590
@StaticVapour590 10 месяцев назад
Well that's a massive job. I remember some van with 2.2L engine I believe from Ford, even changing the accessory belts is hassle on it. You have to take off the AC compressor to get to the tensioner, you cannot get the inner belt undone before you take off the tensioner. You cannot access it under, side or from the top, you have to mess around with extensions and slim wobble sockets.

With everything going so well for the past videos, you did not need this!!! It would be interesting in hindsight Dean to see what everything has cost in time, money, etc., against what the garage would have charged. Appreciate the garage would have been longer so may be even include a hire truck. Good luck putting it all back together. Typical Italian mechanics, almost as bad as all the other makes of Italian stuff!! Design it with the most awkward assembly to ensure loads of cash for repairs!! Cheers, Bob
