I have never tried 24" wheels before, but I wanted to try them on my 300mm Boostmonster bike! So I tried this out in Whistler! I have to say it took a bit to get used to and I really wasn't sure what use they may have. But as I was riding some of my favourite flow trails the wheels really started to work a lot better!

Hello from Greece! Very nice video! I have a specialized camber pro 26" 2012 Two years ago I put a rear wheel from a specialized riprock 24" with a 2.8 tire, front 26x2.35, the bike impressed me! It turns and brakes better and the most important thing for me on the hills is easier! I do cross country, I am also 55 years old I'm very pleased and I'm not going to change it!

They had to stop the gondola and carry me through the gondi station to get me to the clinic, then an ambulance trip to Lions Gate Hospital in North Van for 4 days, not fun. I would be curious to see the contact patch difference between the tire sizes & pressures. Given the difference is mostly in 1 dimension, you could set a metal ruler under the tire to measure the length of the contact patch difference under static load deformation at the very least. Bonus points for bouncing up and down to see what it'd look like mid-berm.

Might need to try some kind of mullet setup with the boostmaster. 24x3 rear and 26 front? Maybe 26 rear and 27.5 front if you can fit it. But yeah, you definitely ould still use a longer wheelbase, regardless. At least 1.3 if not 1.35-1.4m.

Great experiment man, love it. Less grip overall makes sense because smaller wheels have a tighter curve and therefore a smaller contact patch with the ground at the same pressure.

At a certain point the wheels are just too small as they are more easily caught on divots and square edges. Those wheels are heavier too so that kind of negates any kind of rotational weight advantages.

Thanks for testing out different wheel sizes. Did you ever test out different wheel weights, just guessing higher weight could pull one down the hills faster. Increased weight could be done by adding water to the wheels. It could be 1 liter pr wheel, more would lease to little air in the wheels that they would give less and more progressively suspension.

Not to take away from your analysis along the video, but it makes sense the bike started to feel better as you started to get used to it more. Doing stuff on the raggedy edge means every little thing affects your performance and perception, there's also a big psychological component involved too, probably something of a placebo effect or it in reverse or something. I'm not a doctor or a DH-enthusiast.

The wheels act like a gyroscope, if you have small wheel and not much mass at the tires, the gyroscope will be weaker. If you have big wheels with small mass the gyroscope will be better. So compared to dirtbike wheels they are small but had more mass than bicycle ones which gyro will be stronger. The bigger wheel the better gyroscope is being made. You can have really strong gyroscope with small wheels but mass need to be high...

24 inches isn't the problem for grip. It's the tires (the front tire more specifically, which looks horrible) and pressures in your case. :P Suspension does play a lot too but yours is pretty dialed right ? 24 inches will be more problematic in chunky stuff. It'll slow you down a lot and can even upset your bike. At least that's what I've found comparing 26ers vs 29ers. Hopefully you find something that works for this beast !
